Maybe it's a time to try out viewer games or self-hosted tournaments with restrictions against non-interactive decks. The Kibler Cup, no druids or tsunamis allowed

Unpopular opinion: Tsunami is kinda interactive. At least compared to solitaire meta where you would go 30 to zero in a single turn no matter what your and your opponents’ board state was. But the meta is extremely swingy for sure, which could take you from “I’m way ahead” to “I have no way of coming back” in a single turn.
@JJroks5433 сағат бұрын
I think nerfed Tsunami is pretty reasonable, the decks that omega cheat to get it out as fast as possible (think Surfalopod/Under the Sea) aren't even as good as the super greedy variants that do the thing that Kibler is talking about in this video. The greedy lists running Orb and replaying it with Conman or using Conman to cheat out multiple copies of your other big Spells is the real issue in my opinion.

I think the problem with Hearthstone is that, since it adheres to a strict "my turn you watch, your turn I watch" kind of deal, combo decks are inherently the superior choice as long as aggro can't overrun them, so the game devolves pretty fast into face hunter vs Raza priest kind of scenarios. Fixing this without going the "instants" route or some sort of hand/deck stripping thing is probably going to involve another pretty awful set of cards like floodgate effects. Things like "whenever a player plays a card, exhaust all mana crystals", "battlecries don't trigger", "deathrattles don't trigger", "minions cannot be played from anywhere but hand". But then this becomes a game of "did you draw your hate or did you lose?"

When I used to play MtG, I loved playing combo decks. Trying to assemble your combo while your opponent was actively trying to stop you was thrilling gameplay. It could be a long game of cat and mouse that had a ton of interaction. In Hearthstone I despise playing combo decks. There's usually either nothing your opponent can do, or they just beat you with a single disruption card. Either way, it was barely a game.

It’s one of the best parts of the mana system in magic. If your opponent leaves Mana open, you have to then play accordingly. It turns from two players playing solitaire and seeing which drew better to a game of bluffs and managing resources vs trying to blow out your opponent.

Mana Cheat is too strong in a game where you simply can't stop your opponent popping off. I recently uninstalled because of how frustrating things are right now. My big thing is there is ZERO counter play. Reno Warrior double boom bosses me, I lose. Shaman triple incindius's me. I lose. Right now the meta screams "yeah but there's this card that will remove stuff your opponent shuffled into your/their deck" (steamcleaner) but that card rotated out and they never bothered replacing it or putting it in core. It's such an obvious dumb move when there's a bunch of "shuffle a bunch of these into your deck and you win" style decks. Bring back the guy who rips a card out of your opp's hand, dirty rat, gnome.... in general, give us some COUNTER play. Make it so I can interact! But often I que to just end up not playing the game and it feels bad. So I just decided to stop feeling bad by not playing.

I hate Reno Long Ranger, that card should be banned from Standard play. It removes one of the major constraints of running a Reno deck, and replaces it with a reliable and uncounterable win condition that you will always be able to find with enough card draw (or Renathal giving you 40 health!). I think I've seen enough Reno Warrior, Shaman, Druid, Paladin and Mage for an entire lifetime, every single one of these classes has elite ways to cheat out super expensive cards or ramp to find them and play them faster.

In its early years, the simplicity of hearthstone had been its selling point over other TCG. I remember a lot of older streamers talking about how satisfying it was to be able to achieve your combo without the opponent being able to interact. If you think about it, one of the most iconic hs meme is the sax guy over a combo play, that was ubiquitous in any sort of compilation video like Trolden. Over the years, however the ridiculous amount of card draw and discover mechanics have made accomplishing combos so much more consistent. This always took away from the old attrition style of hs as there is always something to do nowadays. Most decks kind of autopilot and just play the same type of game irrespective of the opponent, either because their play pattern is really strong or because they have basically endless resources from random effects. Nostalgia shaman, Orb spell mage, Pispi paladin, Buttons DK they all play more in the style of combo decks even if they are not OTK decks. A single expansion with a board-centric theme is not enough to solve these problems, and the game needs a major shift in its direction, especially towards card draw and discover effects.

Amount of Draw and Resource generation has been the biggest problem in my IMO in recent years since we are dealing with 30 card decks meaning very easy draw through it by turn 7 and 8 these days which is insane. In short I agree
@dude112352 сағат бұрын
I thought of a key word along the lines of "Spell Absorb" which takes damage from spells with any excess going to the original target. E.g. if you have a spell absorb minion with 4 health in play and the opponent targets your face with a 6 power spell, the minion takes 4 damage and dies and your face takes 2 damage. This could also be used to protect other minions on board as well. AOE could go left to right, so the leftmost minions damage is transferred to spell absorb minion, and if still alive the next minions damage is transferred to spell absorb etc until the absorb minion is dead. Would make bladestorm an absolute animation nightmare to play though, lol.

As someone who is recently getting into EDH I think it’s important to point out the inverse of Kiblers point. That being that depending on who you ask magic can have to much disruption. The ability to counter your opponent actions or get recourses from them taking them sounds good in theory. That is until you are playing against 3 opponents that are all while/blue and each game action you are being asked if you want to pay the 18. Obvious OTK decks are a problem right now, and have been before as well. But I think the polar opposite problem of having to stare down the third Uber control player who has aura or rhystic studies or rouge with smothering tithe isn’t really the best place to be in either.

I feel that a number of the changes aimed at effecting Standard right now with this balance patch also greatly benefit Wild as well. Wild has generally been where I've been playing ranked Hearthstone the most recently because of how polarizing Standard can feel at the moment. The ease at which you could play Treasure Distributor on 1 and pull up to both Patches and two copies of the 2/2 pirate that gets summoned from your hand made pirate aggro decks incredibly uninteractive. Playing a 1 drop and getting a potential total of 12/7 in stats off of it was not healthy and this change is good for Wild as as Standard. Similarly the change to Dorian effects Wild as well because he was, not surprisingly, being used often to hit very deterministic combos exceptionally early into games. Exactly put that the change was well placed to stop Dorian from being so easily used with Oaken Summons. Overall this patch is a boon for both Standard and Wild (in part helped by the Wild specific nerf too). I do look forward to The Great Dark Beyond as there are many cards in the set that have me excited to build fun new decks in both Standard and Wild and I hope that the meta can shift to allow for more engaging back and forth type games in Standard.

I play a lot of Odyn warrior and I don't think I ever really cast any other treasures most of the time because Marin existed to try and enable some other armor gain burst combos. That is a fascinating take considering that objection, counterspell, and Oh my Yogg are some of the most hated cards in hearthstone. Heck, Blue is one of the most hated (if not THE most hated) colors in magic purely off of how aggravating countermagic is to play against. I honestly think that one of the big draws of hearthstone is that you mostly don’t have to worry about your opponent taking excessive amounts of actions on your turn, unlike in Yu-Gi-Oh! or Magic (which also explains why people have historically despised secret mage and hunter). All this to say that adding more ‘post-turn interaction’ (great term!) would likely anger far more players than it would please.
@Ninguin2 сағат бұрын
@@xandero8444it’s angers players but it is also the only thing that can keep these kind of combo plays in check. They either can’t print anything mana cheaty or heavy draw without giving players ways of stopping these problems. Hell YuGiOh is an excellent example of the progression that traps or secrets in HS weren’t enough to keep combo styles in check so they added in hand traps. Blue might be the most hated color because of its counter magic but if that wasn’t the case, green or white would be the most hated for creating giant boards that force you to play the exact same way.

Hi, regular top legend player here. I am a huge fan of the changes. I think it demonstrates the developers' commitment to keeping the game fun, but I'd like them to adjust the entire game, wild included. This way, decks that don't necessarily have some game-warping effect can see play. Powerful effects are too prevalent with the amount of card draw and universal discounts they've printed recently. Every base card printed now is 1-2 mana cheaper than it would have been for the same effect. Things being slightly expensive is what made decisions difficult, for someone to possibly find value over a less aggressive decision, and make a comeback from behind. There used to be CLASSES intended on doing DIFFERENT things. I am unable to play the decks I want to play that should be good by the standards of 2 years ago because they do not include 2 titans, unkilliax and maron. I think they should make most cards have the (but not less than 1) text, revert the "if you're deck started with no duplicates," and add steam cleaner into core, but they made the change because people were sour about not being able to play their 30000 dust decks. One of the reasons the game is criticized for not being F2P, and the majority of peoples' collections being invalidated is the consistent power creep year after year.

I rarely play standard anymore, so I’ve seen that card maybe 3 times max, and I immediately noticed how dumb it was that it was a 6 mana 4/4 summon a 5 drop by default. The rainbow spell reward part of it, which was clearly the whole concept for the card, was no longer required for the card to be good on its own, but instead was an added bonus that would make the card a 6 mana play a full board of 5 drops

Except for that, how do you consistently win?

Kibler spot on as always. I love Hearthstone, but boy have I been longing for a meta where I could play cool cards without dying on turn 5. I understand power creep, but I really think it feels worse in Hearthstone than in other games because the game has lost the essence of what made it so fun originally. Board based strategy, valuing stat lines for minions, having to use board control tools incredibly sparingly because of scarcity and cost. Nowadays everyone can blow up a board with little commitment, refill their own board, and rinse and repeat.

Just started playing the game this week after not playing since they originally introduced the Titan cards. Also just started playing Magic/EDH about two months ago. It's wild how strong decks are nowadays. It used to be combo decks needed 4-5 specific cards in hand to OTK and that's assuming they weren't playing versus a warrior that could armor up over their kill range. Nowadays combo decks can vomit things on the board and have decent control of it while also just slotting in 2-4 cards that are on their own deal 10-20 damage to people's face with little to no set-up required. And aggro decks have even more burn damage and resistance to board wipes than before. I thought the whole point Blizzard introduced standard as a mode and mini sets was to control the meta better and be able easily rotate things out in two years if they messed up and things were too strong. And get the game seems just as bad if not worse than it was before. I enjoy Arena and playing through all the little single player story modes they added since I left but the fame overall just seems even more like a clusterfuck than when I left which is very odd.

I have two points to make: First, even the aggro style decks in HS at the moment are about flooding the board before turn 3-4 (pain warlock, pirate demon hunter). Real face decks that you can counter with a few taunts dont really exist anymore. Second, it is a great marketing strategy from Blizzard to buff a bunch of cards, make a few decks god-tier, and then nerf only 1 or two cards to rip them. I have lost tons of dust crafting all cards for decks like tsunami mage or dragon priest, only to lose it all a few weeks later. It is almost impossible to keep up with the meta to be honest.

I mean Reno requires you to build your whole deck around it, requires you to run tons of board interaction and fight over the board to even stay alive, and the card doesn't even win you the game or anything. It's a 10 mana board clear with a deck building requirements and stops some combo decks for a single turn. The game needs more cards like this not less. Control decks have almost always been pretty irrelevant in Hearthstone l's history anyways.
@josephjoestar36312 сағат бұрын
@@Lors_101 no. Not at all. Not having duplicates in a card game with hundreds to thousands of avalaible cards is not a steep "requirement". "Building your whole deck around it" is just not true. You build your whole deck around the 1 cost amalgam. You build your whole deck around Odyn. You build your whole deck around a Tourist card. Without these very specific cards, the deck falls apart. Without an uninteractive 10 cost hero that you can't stop by any means, Reno decks don't fall apart. They don't require that card unless you're using the hero power for an OTK. It's one of the most frustrating and uninteractive cards ever printed. "For 1 turn, your opponent can't even play the game. Delete their board. Good luck not being spell mage." That's such a dumb design for a card that doesn't even warrant being printed. If every single deck was Druid with board flooded 8 drops or something on turn 9, suddenly this card actually sounds like it needs to be in the meta. Like Kibler said, it's all about the combo and aggro decks. They don't get countered by Reno. This card sucks to play against unless you're combo or aggro, it just polarizes the meta even more
@Lors_1012 сағат бұрын
@@josephjoestar3631 There's not thousands of good cards available in Standard. And no combo deck is taking Reno. Aggro decks do get countered by Reno if you survive long enough, it's just an extra board wipe and armor/resource generation and prevents them from vomitting cards on board for a turn to let you recoupe. The only decks running Reno anyways are mid range and control which are the worst decks in the meta. And the only decks it counters are aggro/vomit shit on board decks which are meta. And most games don't even make it to turn 10 to play Reno and you have to spend your whole turn to cast it. It's a 10 mana board wipe (which often cost 3-5 mana) and you pay the rest of the mana to lock your opponent out of playing more than 1 creature next turn. I don't think it would be meta even without the deckbuilding requirment which just makes it even worse. Awesome video Kibler! Would love to see these types of videos more often. I think your take on the metagame is the best one out there and we have seen in that past that blizzard do tend to listen when you speak up.

Unfortunately I don't think it's enough. I think some cards need straight bans from standard. It's unfortunate but maybe the only way for the next expansion to matter.

The way tsunami has deleted a lot of fun from playing as and against mage, i wouldnt mind it being 10 mana summon 3. Just get it away, i aint missing it

Since Hs is on its last leg. They try to power creep and force you to buy their new cards

Wild nerfing Dorian was fine, now you dont die on turn 2. But high legend (top 300) is still full of druids, both Spell OTK druid and Renathal Aviana, both of them can kill you on turn 5-7 easily, nothing really changed, nerfing Dorian just because Druid is op, i wish they instead nerfed the problem which is Ramp and mana cheating, that only druid has also some other wild cards should been dealt with like Demon Seed, Egg hunter, Uther DK hero power. these decks has infinite mana cheating or just really fast OTK that u cant distrupt, as like paladin runs 2 extra copies of SIng along buddy and Garrison Commander in their ETC, dirty rats isnt enough

I think is boring for me, When someone play Hearthstone in the meta it is not a good game. for me in particular i give a shit on the Meta. on this point Hearthstone is a good game.

As an on-again, off-again HS player, the *ONLY* thing keeping me playing is getting these last 77 wins for my Warlock 1k portrait. Standard doesn't seem fun. Wild is a mixed bag, at best, and the price, or at least what HS is charging for signatures and stuff, is off putting. No, I don't buy anything and no one is forcing me to buy anything, but $40 for a single card is just stupid and makes me angry to see when I log in and browse the shop!
