I have the plans from Ian Farrier for the F9a. I bought those in 1994 or so. I never built her. Instead i rebuilt 2 houses from top to bottom...After that experience i knew that if i built a trimaran it would become a submarine upon launching her. I have so much respect for what you have done. No one knows what it is like to deal with epoxies, glues, sand paper, paints, dust, and the tedious amount of time to work through plans. I have rebuilt and reglassed a 28 foot Sharpie monohull twin masted unstayed schooner. I now own a 30 foot condor trimaran that is trailerable. I love the trimarans. Sir, you are a one in a million guy who had the tenaciousness and the dream to make it happen. I love that you are a humble man who has the love of his friends, family, and wife. I owned a F31 when i was in my 30's. I met Ian Farrier multiple times when he was associated with John Walton at Corsair Marine in Chula Vista California. He could be prickly at times. But he was an innovator and great designer of a market place niche...that being trailerable sailboats that could beat half million dollar full on racer boats while sipping a bear in the cockpit as you blew by. All the race boat crew sitting on windward rail looking miserable as hell. Enjoy your boat...she is a wicked sailor and big enough for cruising anywhere you want in the world. Great canal boat for Europe...the med...the Carib....Enjoy the fruits of your labor. No one could be happier for you then people who knows what it takes to do what you have done so magnificiently.

Phenomenal accomplishment and excellent looking boat. I'm sure it will sail well. I built an F-9A in 24 months (launched in 1993). So much work goes into one-off boatbuilding but you can end up with a custom boat that will beat almost everything else on the water. Trimarans are wonderful sailing vessels. RIP Ian - Thanks for the great designs.

I have the plans for the F31 that i bought personally from Ian Farrier. That was back in 1995. I never got around to building because a divorce and making a living took all i had. I want to compliment the builder on his desire and fortitude to build such a creature. She is lovely and will serve you well for many a years. I bought a Condor 30 and she sits on a trailer in San Carlos Mexico. I have worked with fiberglassing for years. For you folks who haven't had that misery.....you have no idea what this man has gone through to build this boat. I compliment his wife in having to raise children and not have the income that went into that boat...What a story of strength of character in this man's life and love of a good woman who saw him through it. Boat builds have led to many many divorces in USA. All i can say is ...what a beautiful story. Ian would be so proud to see how you executed his design.

YOU DID IT! You FINALLY DID IT! All these years, I have been following you, and occasionally messaging you (and Ian) to check on your progress. I'm so happy for you and proud of you. Ian would be so proud too. Congratulations, sir! Fair winds and following seas, Frank

Well done! I expect you’ve been sailing her for while now. I’ve just finished building a Scarab 650 ( a 6.5m folding trailerable tri ) in epoxy sandwich and solid fibreglass. Took me about 2500 hours in roughly 2 years. A much smaller undertaking than your beautiful boat, but a solid amount of work as only another boat builder will appreciate. Mine is white with sunflower yellow topsides on the main hull, beams and tiller etc. But I love your unexpected colour! : )

I have followed your FRAM project from the beginning, and contacted Ian Farrier to begin the process of building the F39 as well. We decided to build a catamaran in the end, but I congratulate you on the persistence and excellence on this labour of love. I am sure Ian is looking down and smiling at you with pride and approval !!

Amazing job. Been lurking following you a couple of years now, and it has shown me one thing. I will NOT build a boat myself.. But I can still watch with amazement those who do. :D

Omg, my fantasy boat! I really believe Trimaran's like yours needs more public media. To show people the excitement and beauty of Trimaran's. So hope you post lots of videos!

I have owned many of the corsairs And I have to say they are the most fun I’ve ever had on the water today . My current boat is a F 28 R and she’s been a thrill . Farrier was a genius .

Congratulations sir, I hope that you have saved and archived ALL of the building plans for future generations of intrepid builders because Ian is no more and the f-39 is his crowning achievement. I have dreamed of doing what you have done for a decade, however family and the realities of life didn't allow me to buy a set of plans when they were available. It is only through people like you that my dreams are possible.

What a beautiful job, but I don't understand why you'd put a steering wheel in it.
@kylegoldston5 жыл бұрын
The f-39 has an optional pivoting kick back rudder box to limit or prevent damage. This kind of makes tiller steering difficult or perhaps even dangerous.
@skyak44934 жыл бұрын
Look at the rudder mount. It's like a dagger board so the ruder can operate at various depths. It's a great feature but it dictates the rudder pivot be ahead of the rudder. Without balancing the force of the rudder is too much for a tiller. The force on a tiller is proportional to leverage x area x speed squared. You can't compare a 12M 10kt mono to a 30kt tri.
