Lovely boat and lovely job building it. As someone currently building a 6.5m Scarab 650 in pvc/epoxy sandwich I can fully appreciate how much work that was - main hull on the trailer, now onto beams and floats. Splash next summer downunder for me. Can’t wait!

those thin amas can sink and the flat upper shape can keep them sunk for lateral capsize or forward or reverse pitchpole i suppose todays amas with plenty of freeboard make less likely lateral capsize by acting as a buoyant wall
@sailingtrimaranlightness10 ай бұрын
The floats are neither thin, nor is their surface flat ;-) But you're right, if you overdo it, you can knock over a multihull. Perhaps you could research how many capsizes with a Farrier design have been documented so far. There are not many. All the best!

Hi,it can be done without plywood?only fiberglass? in the beams there is also wood ore inside are empty? Greetings from Italy
@sailingtrimaranlightness2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marco, the boat is built in positive with a DuraKore core and glassed with fiber and epoxy. This is for the main hull and the floats. The beams are made of PVC foam and a lot of carbon ;-) DuraKore is an amazing wood compound for a one off composite build - light and amazingly stiff. You can find a lot of information in the web. Hello Terry! Sorry for the late response but I had been sailing ;-) A lot of new vids which now wait for being cutted. Yes, it is a Farrier design - a F-9A which is equipped with the R-rig so it is a F-9AR. You can find me on facebook Sailing Trimaran Lightness and on the web page www.einfachmeer.segelnblogs.de. If you are interested we can meet us in messenger or via email. Looking forward to this contact. Best regards

Awesome boat, you must have hella confidence in that resin being a 0erfect batch along with the plywood.. Personally the laminated plywood method.of construction does not give me much confidence...maybe for protected bays and rivers....or for a dinghy Awesome construction anyway
@sailingtrimaranlightness4 жыл бұрын
Hello JCBs At the Helm! Thank you for your comment! Most of the boat is not plywood. The core is from Duracore - a balsa teak combination of 13 mm. The stressed parts are the beams and the hull section between the beams. Beams are made from foam with a lot of carbon fiber ;-) But you are right, the inner parts, where the the beams meet is made from ply also. Ian Farrier had been a genius. Never saw construction in this perfection before. In no situation had any doubt of the construction an stress loads yet. 2.600 miles sailed - sometimes in rough conditions but there are no vids :-I
@rickquist39923 жыл бұрын
I owned a WEST System Seaclipper 28 trimaran for years. We did multi day, open ocean trips and encountered 50 to 60kt winds at times. It was no more hair raising then most other vessels. Better than some. While my boat was a bit more stout than this one, I'd wager that if you were to inspect Lightness and sail it in brisk conditions, you may have a different opinion!
@sailingtrimaranlightness2 жыл бұрын
In my point of view the construction in combination with the material gives a quite sturdy boat. I do not know of any Farrier breaking - beside the one which was outfitted with massive foils without beeing reinforced at the right spot...
