Having grown up in the South East, with our Slam Doors into the 2000's. It seems to me that the Country is dripping with new trains these days. I assume the 175's might be recycled somewhere else, after all, twenty odd years old was middle aged for a train!
@MGRinger022 жыл бұрын
I'm hoping that they come down to SWR! The WoEML (London to Exeter) could do with some new(er), faster trains!
@AymanTravelTransport Жыл бұрын
@@MGRinger02 I think GWR would need them more tbf given the severe hit in capacity they're gonna have with the early withdrawal of the Castle HST sets and cancellation of the 769 fleet; SWR would prefer DMUs with end gangways anyway (hence why they sent their 170s up north) so it's easier for frequent multiple-working.

I get the feeling that with the new rolling stock the seating is designed so there is no interaction between passengers. The majority face one way. The older 60s, 70s stock had facing seats and room to walk down the aisles with large bags. The new trains on the Southend to Liverpool street line are sanitized and virtually impossible to walk between seats with large holdalls.

I do hope the seats are more comfortable than those on the IETs. Hopefully they operate these in longer formations like 5/6/maybe 7 coaches. Hopefully the 175s will go to another operator. Awesome video G!

I’ve read that TfW did express concerns about the seats. ‘Ironing boards’ was the description used, but I do trust G’s judgement.

@Snaily2 жыл бұрын
@@MontytheHorse I am concerned about the seats. I love almost everything about the 195s up north, except for the seats which within half an hour make your arse numb, never mind how bloody skinny they are, so I'm hoping they're at least comfier than that, especially after getting used to the 175.

Excellent review, G! The 197s look good and the fact that they're built in Wales just makes things even better. Glad to see that more TOCs are inviting you to events now and hope that the 175s find a new home in the future!

Just a shame the units are dull looking.
@scottyj91502 жыл бұрын
They are very similar. The 197's have less windows between the passenger body side doors than the 196's. 197's have 4 (bonded flush) and 196's have 5 (Rubber seal fitment).

Thanks, they look as good on the inside as they do on the outside, can't wait to see one 'in the flesh'. Hope they ride as well as the 195s, earlier today rode a pair of 195s between Leeds and Preston and return - a very enjoyable and quiet ride except for one or two small sections of jointed track which these CAF trains don't seem to like.

Ohh,. who doesn't love love the smell of a new train! Great review of these new units, they look quite similar to the class 755 GA run, albeit without the mini engine car in the middle!! . Will be sad to see the 158s go though, as these units really got hammered hard and still are a comfy ride over long distances. Top toilet review and a squishy boobies cry too.... what's not to like!! Keep up the great content!

I wonder where the 175s will go because they are just over 20 years old still have life in them.
@Snaily2 жыл бұрын
I really don't mind the 175 - though that might just be because I've grown up with 2000's Northern and an Arriva-run Welsh franchise, so I've never consistently used a nice train - but I really do like the look of these. Anything to replace the sprinters, which don't really sprint but rather cough and splutter from stop to stop at about 0.3mph, while throwing out enough volume to smash glass. And to finally consistently have trains with bike racks will be nice, can stop having to get trains at specific times to get a 175 or a 150/153 with an updated interior.
@Andrewjg_892 жыл бұрын
Are they literally in service. About time. Hopefully West Midlands Railway should introduce the Class 196 in service this year. Great video, thanks very much. It was good of TfW to invite you to the launch and you have done a really good job of taking us round the 197. Like you I do have a concern regarding capacity and hope that where a 2 car 158 or 175 is currently used that a 2 car 197 won't be the like for like substitute. They really do need to strengthen some services which are currently running beyond capacity. That aside, they look good and it's welcome to hear that the aircon works well!

Nice to see they haven't got "ironing board" seats like the 800's. A comfortable seat is always appreciated on long journeys. Also interesting is the fact they can run on the Cambrian to Barmouth etc. The leather type headrests will be easy to clean, not sure about no picture in the toilets, white is an invite to the idiots who take pleasure in defacing plain surfaces! Interesting video thank you. Ex Railway man.

I do miss some further innovation for passengers if you compare this class to more european roling stock. But what I still don't get is that they do not have small sliding platforms at the doors that come out and bump against the platform to close the gap.
