Jackie you need to understand that they give double colors because there tiny so u need enough for the other molds that involve that same color

the bag is so cute & comes with 2 inserts so you don't have to stress that you'll put holes in the the insert with the eyes. i was worried that i would have to take all the pins off if i wanted to switch to the eye side but you don't have to do that, you can just not put any pins in the eye one. plus you can use the second insert as a pattern to make more inserts in other colors if you have any ability to sew (not me but i the person i got this for can)

Normally I'd agree but this kit is perfect for little-uns. This is definitely geared towards kids so having multiple tubs of the same colors for little projects is perfect. If I was a kid I'd be overjoyed to get this, the tools were simple enough that little kids could do it. I also feel that they don't really need an activity guide because little kids just tend to do whatever with play doh, you can give them an idea but they're going to just do whatever they want.

Agreed. As an adult opening it the repetition would be annoying, but kids will probably have mashed up a lot of their colours by the time they get another pot. I wouldn't want this, but my small son would adore it. There would definitely be hysterics over stuff falling down the back though - huge design flaw!

Completely agree. My youngest is special needs and his attention span is worse than a normal child so making the snowman over a couple of days would be awesome for him.

Yeah a little kid would probably be pretty happy, there's a huge risk they ruin the colours though and if another project needs the same colour they would have nothing, I think that's the reason the repeated too. Sure it might annoy an older kid but if you try t look through the eyes of a smaller kid ,which this seems to be geared towards and not adults I think this seems totally fine, the only faults I see that some projects took too many days to completely finish (but then you got more of the same colour at least thankfully if you had used it for something else) and that some tools fell down.

I agree BUT, if the kids are going to just do whatever they want anyway, wouldn't it be better to just buy them larger batches of playdoh without the advent calendar altogether? Why stagger it out for multiple days, pay for the guides and everything for a marked up price when you can buy cheap cookie cutters and play doh in larger amounts for the same price or cheaper? You pay for the convenience in these kits. If you aren't going to utilize the kit for the intended purpose, it is a waste of the extra money, right?

@@zarvix3555 some families have "advent calendars" as a little ritual type thing during Christmas. So if everyone is opening an advent calendar and the little one isn't they tend to get upset.

The whole comment section says it. The calander is fine. If anything something like my sister would love just getting a random tub of playdoh, she used to get little things of playdoh all the time. What always came to my mind when you got multiple of the same colours was "sweet, more to make more things with" they are small tubs, you get more to do whatever with. Especially if youre going to be making the projects with different colours, (such as the candycane) which means when you mash it together, and you got a new colour and pretty much less of the original colours. You expected adult-level materials and playtime

I'm usually with you on salt level but I think this is a really good advent calendar. This is for little kids so getting double colors is good because they may not get the lid back on correctly and cause it to dry out. You got a lot of different things in it which I think makes it a good value and it is a great activity for kids leading up to Christmas. If I had a kid I would for sure get this for them.

I know she kept wanting more tools, but the fact you get a cutter with each play-doh seems like a great deal for me. And then you get a collection of cutters you can keep using well past Christmas. Child me would have loved this!

Yeah. Plus, I don’t think much children would wait everyday to open a box, so if they did open it all at once, with all the items they have they could make like a mini town/scene. :)

I don't really see the problem with this one. As a kid, I would have LOVED this. Also, the single Play Doh containers are so small that I'd be happy to get more of the same color. I can also tell you from experience that as a child I would have completely ignored any kind of instruction manual if there had been one. I honestly wouldn't even have bothered using the big sheet, I would have just gone wild, and for that, this Advent Calendar is fantastic. Also I think none of these are scented is because afaik those kinds of scents are not safe for consumption. And Play Doh is supposed to be 100% ok to swallow (even if it tastes like sh*t) so that it's ok for small children to use.

I mean, it's definitely an advent calendar that's much better if the kid already has some Play-Doh to start. Getting a single tiny one a day (they're party favor size, not the size of a regular Play-Doh container) makes it a little harder to play with, you can't really go wild until you're a few days in and have more dough to get creative with so that and things slipping through the back is a valid criticism. The mold is half the fun and even if you wouldn't use the manual, having the tool is useful. Plus they added glitter into the snowy white play-doh and is that safe to swallow?? I think it's a great idea but it could be improved a little bit. She might be exaggerating and unnecessarily poo-pooing on the duplicates but she was right about a few other things. They could've made it feel more special by adding in more glitter doh at least, which would be especially nice if you have a lot of regular play-doh already.

While for an adult getting so many multiples of the same color is a bit frustrating, for a child, I think it's perfectly fine. A young one is more likely to accidentally let their play dough completely harden, therefore making it unusable. So I think it's a good way to make sure that a small would still be able to complete their projects, even if they accidentally forgot to put their new play dough away properly.

I was good about getting Play Dough containers sealed properly, but couldn't resist mixing up a bunch of new colors 😁 It wasn't long before the original colors turned a marbled muddy mess from having globs of mixed Play Dough stored with them in the same containers. 😱😆 A set like this would have been ideal because I could have used the duplicate tubs to store my new color mix creations! 👍😀 Overall, this set isn't that bad and has a lot of potential to be great with some tweaks. Make the flaps easier to open, especially for little fingers; eliminate gaps in each compartment to prevent lost/missing items; add more activity guides or suggested ideas for using the attached scenes; adapt the existing "tool" to work as a plunger or release for the molds with the large holes. Tbh, I'd be tempted to play with this set even as an adult because it's more "respiratory friendly" than resin, polymer clay or ceramics. 😄

I think maybe Jackie is looking at it too much as an adult and not a child? As a kid I'd love having multiple of the same colors, because I would mix colors, plus I'd have extra in case one dried out (Because with me playing outside they always did) I love the sheets! It's great for helping even younger kids, and gives them a pretty good visual (Since we don't get a snowman instruction)

Right with you on the mixing colors thing! That's why Mom started buying 2 sets at a time, so I could store the color mixes in separate containers from the original colors. Buying duplicate sets of Play Dough actually saved $ in the long run since none of it was wasted, whereas a single set ended up a useless marbled muddy grayish mess in just a couple days. 😄

Most Play Doh sets are really geared toward very young children. A child would be stoked to get extra pots of the same color because they'd have more room to use colors across the play mat (ie, having more white for extra snowflakes and snowmen as opposed to only having enough for one of each). And the molds are cute, and offer plenty of creative freedom. Even the molds with the hole in the middle are fine from a kid's perspective, because small hands with still-developing dexterity can't always extract from the stamp molds. They maybe could have included one big sheet of project suggestions, but for me personally when I was a kid, I almost never followed the playset instructions anyway. I'd just do my own thing. Hence why my play-doh grill set usually had Barney and sea creature shapes on the grill instead of burgers and hot dogs. So from an artist perspective, sure, this calendar blows. But for a kid? It's great.

I think this is fine, it's play doh you dont need clay tools and a size guide lol (the candy cane just fill it with red and then roll out tiny little strips of white to place on top) advent calendars are supposed to be just small little novelty things everyday, y'all are giving kids too high of expectations they're gonna start expecting a whole gift every single day lmao

I usually agree with Jackie, but this time I must say I dont agree with the saltiness. I did enjoy this advent calendar, I think it is perfect for the little ones, the price is really good, it comes with really cute molds and the tools are easy enough for the kids to use. Also, the instructions are in color and are images of the projects so the kiddos can understand and follow along if they want to. As a kid I would had enjoyed this calendar.

I’m okay with the delayed gratification of adding a bit at a time to the characters. We’re in an instant world and the point of advent calendars is to have to wait for each day. It’s a good skill for kids to practice.

Maybe the doubles/triples are because kids mash al the colours together and ruin them before they get to the next design that uses that colour? Also maybe it would be a bit harsh but you could also save them all up for and then have bigger activity to keep little ones occupied on Xmas day.

I think in that case it'd be better to get a different one for Advent and give this one on Xmas so they don't have to wait. Also less time consuming if you wanna cheat and just open the box from the back or something, not punch in each little door. 😆

Jackie I normally agree with you, and although you do have a point about the sturdiness of the compartments I gotta say you made yourself salty this time. They never promised the scented or special playdoughs you got upset weren't included. For $24 all those playdos and cutters are a good deal. They could have had some color variations like darker and lighter browns and reds but obviously tried to stick to xmas colors. I think the doubles was because of the entire scenary boards having multiple characters in same colors

I actually really like this. The playdoh and tools look good quality. I'm not bothered about repeat colours because it's Christmas colours and you won't run out of a colour before completing activities. The only improvement it needs is the box to make sure everything stays behind the right door

plus I know how kids go through playdough (source me and my brother as kids) so getting multiples or similar colors isnt bad lol, for an advent calendar its not great but as maybe a set or starter kit for the holidays would be fun! the downside is no tools (unless it fell in the back).

@@glassysurface The main problem is they're really tiny, those aren't normal sized play-doh containers, they're party favor size which will fit into the palm of your hand, so if you're actually opening it once a day, you'd use them up really fast (I mean you can keep remolding them but you'd get bored fast.) This would be a great advent kit for a kid who already has some play-doh to go with it (or if you give them a little party favor set/small starter pack on the first day) because otherwise her criticism about taking 5-10 days to build the snowman is pretty valid. Duplicates aren't so bad since they're so small but you'd take a while to get enough to really do anything with this set.

This is perfect for kids. They need the extra colors because they are building a scene on those playmat things so they would keep each item they built on the mat ready for the next day. Building a snowman over several days gives them something to look forward to. Glad there is no scent or glitter because both artificial fragrance and glitter are harmful especially if they put it in their mouth. They do need to change the box design so items don't fall down the back though.

I would have loved to have this advent calendar as a kid and even now as an adult. I think it did a good job giving multiple colors and supplies. I think the doubles and triples of colors help with more play time because you could use some and let it dry or you could but it back in the container for another time. I think it would also be good for two kids so they can share. Growing up my brother and I shared an advent calendar so this would have worked well for us. We used to have Lego ones where you build a little bit each day and by Christmas eve we had a finished piece. I hope you are doing well and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Advent calendars aren’t meant to be kits or projects, they aren’t even meant to be for saving money on groups of items, they are designed as just a lil summin summin to get kids excited for the holidays. When I was a kid (showing my age) they just used to be pictures behind the doors, or if you were lucky, crappy chocolate 😂 The fact that this one gives tools, dough, accessories and play mats is awesome! As a smol grain this calendar would have blown my mind. I’d still love to have it now to be honest!

Considering it is targeted at young kids, I think it’s great! My nephew is 4 and would love this. Getting play doh everyday would be his new favourite things and he would love adding the molds to his collection. Also having multiple tubs is a good idea as they’re quite small so you get more and also kids are likely to forget and leave it out to dry so having another one would come in handy ❤

If I were a kid and got this around christmas time I'd actually be really happy to have all the repeat colors, if you put those tiny containers together in one it would probably fill one big container so you're really getting a whole container of the colors you have three of which makes it so much easier to not have to worry about accidentally mixing colors when you don't have much to play with because it can ruin the playdouh

I tend to disagree with your appraisal. Kids need to learn patience because so many things these days are all about instant gratification. Having the anticipation build day by day helps little ones learn that not everything happens RIGHT NOW. I do though, agree that they could have had more options with glitter/scent and the packaging was not well thought out. Love your vids, kid!! ❤️❤️❤️

From the perspective of a mom with two little ones I bought this calendar and the little ones loved it. We didn’t mind that there wasn’t an instructional manual due to the fact that since they’re kids they would ignore it anyway. And I’m glad that the Play-Doh isn’t scented and that it is made with edible ingredients even though you’re not supposed to eat it because the children do stick their fingers in their mouths a lot. To me with one project taking a couple of days it kind of can show my kids to have patience to which for me is a plus for a child with ADHD maybe not. But overall I don’t think this advent calendar is as bad as some that I’ve seen before.

I think this is a good Advent calendar. With the duplicate colors you can do what you want. Like the village mold can use some brown for the buildings with a red roof, and then use some white to put snow on top. Also if one dries up, you have more to play with.

Honestly I loved it. If I was a kid I would have combined a few of the colors so I would have apreciated the extras. I would have created pink, a muted blue, a better green, a redish Orange. Sooooo many options. I have never liked instructions but... That's just me .

I wouldn’t mind getting doubles or triples because they are so small. I’d want more so I could make bigger things. Definitely needs improvement, though. More activity ideas, better box, more variety than just play dough and a mold everywhere.

yeah I thought getting doubles of importantly used colors was smart because we dont know what a child would do with playdough (and I may have an idea it may include getting it everywhere) but agree with more variety and box improvement like maybe multiple tools with fun or wacky edges to cut, a roller or a stamper! I dont mind the molds theyre all cute but more tools would be fun!

so I watched the video all the way through, and I gotta say, I agree with the comments I've seen. I think it's a great calender. This is meant for pre-k children. Kids at that age most definitely will not care about instructions, and just be content to dive right in. The whole thing is very immersive for little ones, and play-doh is a great sensory experience. You don't have to do the activities or even go in order of the numbered doors... as far as I'm concerned, when you're that age, the kiddo's can just open the whole box and have fun. The extra's of the same colours are great, too. I wouldn't really want tiny tubs of random colours when I can have close to a full size amount to make more of the things I like. Those tools and molds are adorable, and can be saved for future use. Lots of replay value, and for $35.00, that's a steal. I think the crayola box you frequently mentioned was made for slightly older kids with greater fine-motor skills, so that's why things were set up differently. I say all this with L.O.V.E. of course, but I think the main issue with this review is that you rated a children's product with an adult mindset. If I had kids, I would 10/10 buy this for them!

Both my sons would absolutely love this calendar, truth be told. I do agree that dragging out the snowman over so many days is a bit of a blah moment though. Knowing my sons, one of them would have lost or utterly destroyed their Play Doh by the time the project was on its last day!

I had a playmobil nativity scene advent calendar as a kid which we would reuse every year. No waste and it meant we had a lovely little scene with cute animals every Christmas, I loved it

About the doubles and triples of colours.. many of the moulds need the same colours, so naturally, you need more of the same colour. Like the reindeer and gingerbread cookie use the same beige/brown colour. I actually like that they give you lots of each colour (although it looks like they skimped a bit on the white..). Agree the design leaves a bit to be desired because the knife fell in behind.

Hi Jackie! I love your salt as usual, I would've loved this calendar as a little kid! I don't know if anyone's said it yet but the holes in the molds are because if a kid were to swallow it and it got lodged, they can still breathe through it, or if they sucked on it and tried to put it on their lips...I was that kid. Doesn't make the prettiest objects but it's designed for safety over imaginative crafting, at least for something geared towards tiny ones like this is.

I think the reason why they gave you the same of colors is because you’re expected to have the characters at the same time. I usually agreee with your comments on items but I feel for this one it may be a bit critical. I can agree the lack of activity guides are frustrating but having more than one color is to complete the scene having all the characters out at the same time.

I think it’s cute… when you have littles their so excited to play with their play dough and will play with it all day and could possibly leave it out so it’ll dry up… they put the duplicates in there because they know this is inevitably going to happen when it comes to littles… I speak from ummmm personal experience 😂

I kind of think your criticism is unfair, this is an calendar for kids from 3 years. The don’t think the way we do. Multiple of the most common colors is great, the containers are tiny and a small human isn’t going to make intricate miniature things. And they will probably want to keep the things they make. Making a figure over several days is exiting for toddlers.

I figured the multiple tubs were so the kids could make multiple projects using the same molds, which would gear it toward a family with multiple kids, or so that they could do so and let them dry before making ornaments out of them. When I was little in the US Midwest, making ornaments out of diy salt dough was a thing we did every year. This kit didn't come with string or ribbon, but we used to use scraps of string and embed them in the dough before it dried or made holes to feed them through. I think it was a good kit, personally. The molds would be a welcome addition to our playdoh tub.

Hello Jackie, Normally I would agree with you on the salt, but this time I would have to disagree. I think you got to salty to soon. While I will agree with the flaws in the packaging and the fact that the knife fell to the bottom of the box, that’s where I would draw the salt line (as it where). I could see this being something fun for little children and see the use for the multiple packs of the same color and that could be used for smaller details. Also, I do believe that you were trying to think of this from an adult point-of-view and not a child’s point-of-view. This would be something fun to do with a child either before school, or after school just before bedtime where you would want to do something small and fun before tucking them in for the night. Personally, as a little grain, I would have loved this, a small, quick activity to do with my mom before bed, especially since I hardly saw her during the day and she was always tired at night. So, for me, I would say it’s worth the cash for this one.

I loved the kit it provided you with primary colours and black and the most imp three whites, I would have loved it if I ever got it. Easy to make for 3 to 5 year olds who do not ever listen to anything and want to do what they think is right plus that's a lot of moulds and play doe so for me it's totally worth the cash

We used a set of the glitter play doh "Knete" some years ago in a selfmade advent calander. The Glitter-"Knete" got hard very soon, so the playtime was shorter as with the normal "Knete". So we buy only normal "Knete" now. - In germany we say "I can speak a little bit english, but my english is bad." And I can´t write in english -.-

Honestly Jackie’s expectations were wrong here, cuz she was seeing things in the eyes of an adult instead of the age group aka little kids. Yea some parts of her criticism make sense like the tool falling out, some having glitter and some not (they def couldve added more glitter not scented tho), and the inconsistency, etc but at the end of the day for the price point and for the age group (little kids who literally can care less about majority of the things adults would aka the viewpoint Jackie was looking through) it’s actually a good calendar.

I'm pretty sure that you're supposed to do any of the projects until the last day, because it would dry out by the second or third day and the more colors is probably just back up of what you will use the most.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but I think getting a couple of the same colour is because some of the characters and things that you are supposed to make require the same colour so you'd need more. For example gingerbread men, a moose and maybe some wood things would all need brown. Though I could see my kids getting a little disappointed when they open a new window and its like "oh a brown again."

If you made snakes with both red and white and then twisted it before putting it in the candy cane mold you would have a pattern. I do agree there should be some helpful guides giving ideas and tips. but for the price, you can only do so much. Take your snack kit for example. the price is 150 bucks so ofc you could do more. If you want companies to meet your quality standard of stuff, the price will reflect that im afraid. And before anyone flames me in the face for not agreeing 100% with Jackie, i am not saying shes a bad person! I just think she should be more forgiving on a lot of things, especially when she keeps saying its cheap crap, but tbh, the price paid is what you get in the end. There is a reason in most cases that expensive and luxury brands do better than Play-dough and craola etc. They got more to work with than measly 25 bucks. Just my two cents on the matter. I know i would have been happy getting this back in the 90´s when i was a young grain. Even with that i still enjoyed the vid and hearing Jackie´s thoughts on it

I think because the Play-Doh is geared more towards the younger kids, they're meant to use their imagination. I think you're putting too much thought into it. They also probably figure that kids are going to want to make designs and want to leave them to dry which is why they give lots of the same color.

Respectful I disagree that it is worth your cash and personally if I got this now or as a kid I would be happy. There is the design flaw that the things can fall and that can be frustrating. If it was a higher price point I may be super salty but it is only $30 CAD ($25 USD) and if I look on Amazon for play doh sets with molds it’s not that badly price. This is my opinion I’m not coming at you.

I think the papers you pulled out at the beginning was for you to mould your playdoh and arrange it on that paper. So it’s sort of like a play guide thing without being an instructions manual
