I use this same turner for my FT 891 and it works great. However, I think this turner is a little large for the IC 705 and I go with the Elecraft T1 which is about half the size and weight.

This is a great option - even better than the MAT tuner and substantially less expensive than the projected price of the AH-705. Nice package deal by HRO. Definitely plan to get one!

@Ham Radio Outlet Julian this kit looks like it came with a RTS connector on both ends for the interface cable. I know you no longer have the kit available but do you sell the interface cable. Either I’m not finding it or the one I find doesn’t seem to have the RTS male ends on each end of the cable. Can you provide a link to the correct cable for the IC-705? Thanks!
@HamRadioOutlet
@HamRadioOutlet Жыл бұрын
Hi Bob. I don't believe we sell just the cable, but if memory serves, it's a simple TRS (stereo) cable. The selling point of this kit was the tuner and its ability to interface to the IC-705, not the cable. 🙂 You should be able to pick one up easily online.

@@HamRadioOutlet Yes sir. I ended up pulling a TRS audio cable from one of my CW paddles and testing it out with my Z100Plus and 705. Works great! Thanks for the reply!!

Is this combo no longer available from HRO? I found the LDG tuner, but not the combo or the interface cable (that is not on LDG's website).

It was a limited time special offer which has run it’s course. We are once again working with LDG to see if we can bring it back.

I purchased one of these about a year ago. It works very well except the radio's tune button never worked. I tried another cable, but again no joy. As previously mentioned, it really does not need the cable. I simply key the radio and press the button on the tuner. 73 de K4RS

What radio are you using? The IC-705? Did you change the setting in the radio as shown at 2:30? Also, if the cable doesn't click in place, it's not going to do its thing.

@@HamRadioOutlet I am using the tuner with an IC-705. Entering the menu, the tuner option stays inactive as shown at 2:10.

@@rogersnyder1294 So weird. I've not heard of any issues before. I know that when I was making the video I really had to push the cable into the IC-705 much harder than I expected, until I got the click. The radio also had to be turned off. As you said, the interface cable isn't really required, but it makes it one step easier to use the tuner. Both the radio and tuner have a 1 year warranty, so if you really wanted to, you could get them both checked out (if purchased at HRO, you could take it to your local store and they could try a different tuner to see if that works differently with your radio, for example). Then you could get warranty service.

By the way you can switch bands or major frequency changes and then press the mic or key and it will start a tuning cycle without going in to the menu.

Own the Z100A bought fro HRO but have not been able to get an interface cable LDG-IC-108. How or can I get to work?? Paul K1YOU
@HamRadioOutlet

Most LDG tuners will start tuning when they receive some form of RF. If you switch your radio to FM or AM and key the mic, they start tuning. If you put it on SSB and start talking (or whistle), it will also start tuning. Does that not work with the Z100A? An interface cable is included in the box with the Z100A, did you not get one? If you need to make an interface cable, page 8 of the manual shows how and gives information on where you can get the connectors. If you lost your cable, or need another, it looks like they're available here: ldgelectronics.com/index.php/products/accessories/cables/ LDG's contact information is: LDG Electronics, Inc.Attn: Repair Department1445 Parran RdSt. Leonard, MD 20685. There's also a contact form on their web site.

If I tune this on 14.250 what range is tuned? For example I tune on 14.250 can I use it on 14.290 without having to run a new tuning cycle?
@HamRadioOutlet
@HamRadioOutlet Жыл бұрын
That depends on your antenna and how far out of tune it is from when you tuned the LDG Z-10 at 14.250. The nice thing about this tuner, is that it will automatically try to retune if the SWR is too high.

Nice review. Question......" can you put the ATU in the bypass mode?" There are time I would use this on my three band portable wire antenna and it would be only needed on the edges of the 40 meter band. On 15 and 20 meters the ATU is not needed. Barry, KU3X/QRP
@HamRadioOutlet
@HamRadioOutlet 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, a short press of the tuner's TUNE button puts it into bypass mode. Page 5 of the the manual discusses this. The manual can be downloaded on the LDG website (link on the HRO product webpage).

@@HamRadioOutlet I just received my ATU. I actually like using it without the interface cable. WHY? Most of the time I don't need the ATU. I only need it for the top of the 40 meter band. So by taking control of the ATU by not using the interface cable, I keep the ATU in bypass and only tell it to tune when I get above 7250 khz. This way, the ATU in bypass stays completely transparent on all other frequencies and bands. Either way, it's a great little ATU and I'm glad I purchased it. Barry, KU3X

@@barrykery1175 Cool! I agree, no real need for the cable... it just gives you that one-touch tuning. But if your antenna is resonant, it won't tune anyway. It only tunes if you tell it to, or if the SWR is high.

can this be used on a Kenwood TS-430?
@HamRadioOutlet
@HamRadioOutlet 3 жыл бұрын
It can be used on any 100W radio. It's labelled as being for the IC-705 because it has a dedicated control port and an interface cable that goes to the IC-705 to allow the IC-705 to switch into tuning mode automatically when you change bands or press the PTT on the mic. For non-IC-705 users, you'll need to switch to AM or FM, or whistle into the mic to start the tuning cycle. It still works, it's just not fully automatic.

"QSL" does not mean "yes". Nor does it mean, "i received everything you sent." Yet everyday, I hear someone not know what the terms they use on the radio mean. They do so because they heard 3 other people, who in turn heard 3 other people apiece, etc., and it all originated on the LSB of CB channel 38, where such things as, "i'm QRT and standing by.", and "QSK" is used to attempt to break into a conversation, are used. Clubs should be mentoring new hams, but evidently are not. The young fellow in this video is intelligent, and this was a good presentation. I just wish that people understood the proper use and place (mode) for QSL, QRT, QSK, and ROGER (doesn't mean YES). I listened to a CW conversation a short while back, and one of the stations replied, "QSL", instead of "R". SAD.

While the Q-codes have standard meanings in amateur radio use on CW, they are also very commonly (and some would say, erroneously) used on amateur radio phone where they have, arguably, evolved slightly different meanings, just as everyday speech has evolved over the years. Since the Q-codes are a specialized form of language, intended for use only on CW, that is where the Q-codes have the meanings they do. Used outside of CW they can become "standardized" by their common and colloquial usage, and have slightly, or very different meanings from those in CW, yet they are still understood by phone-users. Your point about mentoring is a good one, but not all new hams belong to clubs.
