@@user-fo8ty3kc4v That's just how Chuck sounds. But the advice is still sound. Someone has that technique that lands. And they end up throwing it frequently. And become proficient at it. And when fighting someone, that someone has never seen it used that well before and can't easily make the read.

My Thai boxing coach taught this lead roundhouse first. He believes it’s a much quicker and more efficient and effective way of using your lead leg instead of switching all the time. And I agree, switch kicking is just much harder to land than throwing it no switch. At least for me it is anyway
@besto5486
@besto5486 Ай бұрын
Buakaw had a crazy switch kick. Marlon moraes and edson barboza had great switch kicks too. Just to need to make it fast and time it well. I think learning this first might actually be better as you'll understand better why you switch. Overtime, the switch becomes smaller and it becomes faster, and easier to land
@GangsterFrankensteinComputer
@GangsterFrankensteinComputer Ай бұрын
It's all situational. This kick's advantage is that it's fast. The advantage of a switch kick is it's powerful. How easy they are to pull off is all down to practice.

I don't know why but my switch roundhouse is actually faster than just using the rear leg. however, you can't even compare the power. I always thought that if I could get my switch to be almost as powerful as the back leg roundhouse, it would be real hard to deal with in sparring. and now gabriel just drops this and makes me realize that you can kick with the lead leg without even switching stance before, and generating decent power. I'm eager to test this tomorrow in the heavy bag lol

the lead round kick is still my favorite kick to throw, I like to do switch kicks first so that my opponent is always looking for that stance change, then when I do throw a lead round kick, it's unexpected

Merely standing a bit squared and leaning sideways and back, you can get a lot more rotation in the hip as you kick. Even do a hook-kick with a proper hip-thrust if you miss and land with your foot on the other side.

The same can be said for the rear Roundkick. I've learn so many ways to throw the rear kick, but from people who didn't know how to throw it in any other way then what they teach. As a trainer it's good to know different ways to teach something, but you have to make sure you're not teaching a inferior technic or you could be setting you student up for failure. Not all methods are created equal.🙏

It's basically kung fu/taekwondo/karate. It's funny it's being taught as a variation because it kind feels backwards to me. Adding the switch is the variation. As hoping forwards or backwards or stepping forwards and backwards or changing the stance. If you can do all of that it doesn't even matter what leg is in front. They are basically the same.

Finally someone explaining this in detail. My 1st coach was raving about it all the time. He treated it like it was the holy grail to fighting. Master no switch lead leg kicking, he said, and you have already a huge headstart on your competition. Unfortunately he was never the most articulate guy and could not break down the mechanics: body and foot alignment, being offensive or defensive with it.

Just yesterday in our Kickboxing gym when me and a fellow competitor did combinations, he told me this exact same thing about roundhouse kicks Gabriel. He told me not to feint the jab to throw te left hook because he sees it from a mile away and I found out it is best to either not feint or feint and throw a low kick or a roundhouse kick for instance Gabriel. I'm weird. More likely to switch rear round kick than switch lead. I don't know why, but I've always been good at landing quick, heavy leads, even off jab, so switch is just a waste of time. Switching rear to lead is like switch superman jab only round kick. It loses a little speed and power, but it wins timing. When I switch lead, it's mostly just to condition them for switch rear.

I (15 male) sometimes spar with a guy who is a head taller and about 60Lbs heavier and I struggle heavily, I know dominating the sparring would be utopian but I can't hit a single technique. Is that normal or am I doing something wrong?
@Autonamatonamaton
@Autonamatonamaton Ай бұрын
There's a reason that weight classes exist man, that's a big size gap. Also if you're only 15 you probably have an experience gap as well. If your gym has a decent culture you could literally just ask the bigger guy to not fight optimally and let you work. I'm bigger than a lot of people I train with, so I don't spar "optimally" with them (keeping them on the end of my jabs / kicks, spacing them out) because sparring should be about both parties learning something.
