welcome to part three of 'the leaf' build
I want to build a 1930's super reliable daily driver, I have a 1936 Austin 12 rolling frame , a 1927 to 1933 Lea Francis roadster dicky body and radiator and a 1800 cc Isuzu petrol engine with a 5 speed gearbox..hopefully this will be a very straight forward build and with luck shouldn't take too long, I will be documenting what this costs as we go along but needless to say I will be using INGENUITY OVER BUCKS....
this weeks objective is to drive the old fella up the road, just to prove the steering brakes and clutch and get a feel of him....this weeks music will be live from a rehearsal we had for our gig at Boomtown festival which features at the end....thanks for looking
massive thanks Alex Chesterton for additional footage ....
I'd really appreciate it if you give this a like and comment, and hit the old subscribe button ....
be sure to check out my other videos....thanks Bryan

ind Jim here : jimhammondmusic.com/
find John here ; / johnnyboxcars
massive thanks to everyone who donated or brought a t shirt last time ...im truly humbled......
get yourself a snazzy oak swamp T shirt here oakswamprags.bigcartel.com/
i've set up a tip jar so if you wanna help buy me some grinding disc or something, it would be much appreciated and will help me keep the channel going. you will find the 'tip jar ' icon on my home page above
thanks if you take part in that... and thanks all who already did....

I know what you mean about taking a car for its first test run - I remember taking my drag Beetle for a blast up my parents street with no wings, doors, flip front or silencer. Neighbour was not happy!😅

I have to be honest here . Because I've been a mechanic for 50 years the mechanical work in your video is just another day in my world usually . I think the reason I look forward to the new video's is the Music and the road trips . You have comprised the perfect selection of shop time , travel and excellent music . Thanks to all involved 😎✌️

Excellent video Bryan and amazing editing. The Boomtown Festival had to have been off the hook. Great music, beautiful women dancing and adult beverages. The Leaf will be killer. There’s something about those prewar British speedsters… keep up the great work and I’ll watch more of what I haven’t seen. I’m also learning from you in the welding and sparks flying department

I have a '59 Hillman Husky with a QA1 suspended Jag rear end set up for small block ford, original paint. Also just finished a '52 Singer 4AD light weight. Running her minus all non essentials. Have a stainless steel intake/header manifold setup nearly finished for a small supercharger (500CC/rev.). Have a '65 Tiger that just needs assembly but is subject to delayed gratification. LOL!

Just binge-watched this build, interesting what you are doing. The "rare" radiator was a good buy at the price, but being rare does not make it valuable, only if people want it will that happen, your fifty quid seemed to be a good deal, well done! Just given you a small tip, perhaps you could put the funds towards buying safety specs., or if you need glasses for close-up work, get a pair of prescription safety specs., I just got a new pair and it was only a week or so ago that a KZbinr (Mart's Garage) got a fleck of metal from angle grinding in his eye - served as a reminder to me to take care, and for us all too. Looking forward to progress and be good if this car really does get used, my "modern" and my regular driver is a 1934 Austin 7 Ruby, my other two cars are both 1930 - with only 4 years between them, the Ruby is quite a bit more refined, the biggest factor is really the drive-train, the Ruby has a synchromesh gearbox, the other two are crash 'boxes, the later gearbox makes the car much easier to drive!
@oakswamp
@oakswamp 11 ай бұрын
hey mate ...been up the eye hospital several times over the years fishing grindings out of my eyes ...but since wearing glasses not once...I am really looking forward to actually using a prewar car as a daily driver ...the engine is a cheat i know but im not really a fettler of engines so a bullet proof one suits me ....thanks mate

Ahh man. You are a totally lovable nutcase. Part of me would love to do what you're doing. But I'm obsessed with boats. Trying to build one on the pension. I'm convinced that it can be done. I'm also a retired muso. I know where you are when the crew say "one last time". and ya have to get yer chops together AGAIN. ...and in my case, It's not quite convincing , so after a sweat worth of effort ya say "that's it, never again." and the old axe sits there in it's case, muttering accusations..... Upwards and onwards I say. There's life after music.
@oakswamp
@oakswamp 11 ай бұрын
hahaha. cheers Garrick ......mmmm boats, ive spent countless hours messing with them, shudder , what are you building???......but the old music I started on drums at school , out gigging on guitar in my 20's...hotrods in my 30s then on to bass in my 40's and i rinsed it , this video made me a bit sad...I really didnt want to come home from boom !

37:45, can't resist doing my favourite DB joke: Look, there's a midget with a violin! Cracked 'em up at my lad's school concert once, years ago. Never seen a festival like Boomtown, what a great place. The electrics fought back for a while, but it was good to see the Leaf in motion. I will get your name right from now on too Bryan, atb.

The first step when you build a car is to get the chassis on wheels, then you have the feeling that you are close (even it is a big lie), but it stiffens the self-confidence ;-) the next step is the first drive, then man about halfway ;-) looking forward to the next one 🙂

Say I have a question I have something I would like to send to you that you could use in a build it is a very old cool looking part . How would I send it to you . I feel like having it hang on my wall is kind of a waste and seeing your builds I think you would use it on one of your cars . Better that than hanging collecting dust . Len
