Regardless what you think of his on ice play, this guy is an absolute beaut off the ice, as genuine a human being as you can get. Perfect example, look how he talked with the staff, it’s one thing saying hi to the players, but when he sincerely says it’s nice to see part of the staff again and can’t stop talking to them, that’s how you know he’s a true class act. I met Dion and Elisha a few years ago, shook his hand and asked if I could get a picture, Dion said yeah for sure, so I laughed and said I meant with Elisha.. He took it like a champ, laughed, and said yeah she can be in the picture too 😂

I was just getting into peewee when I first saw Dion play at the WJC. I was a defenceman and I looked up to him in every single way and tried to base my play off of his. I really miss watching him, great guy!!

Those are retired jersey's in the arena. Dion was a hell of an offensive D but I'm not so sure he was good enough for jersey retirement. You have to be among the best Leafs of all time for that to happen. Can you honestly say you think he was among the best Leafs defensemen of all time? There's no shame in not having your jersey retired.

dion is a good guy. he didn't live up to that massive contract but that was nonis' fault. he was a good #4 expected to be #1 in the toughest market. he had no help and had to answer to the media about shitty management and team performance as the captain for many years. he was always accountable, helped so much in the community and never bashed the fans.

You don't have to be so mean the guy just retired and was a really nice person away from the ice. I get that his tenure might have been tainted a little, but he still had the most minutes on that team and put his heart on his sleeve every night. Overall he was still a great defensemen, and had a booming slapshot. I'm happy for him and feel gratified seeing him get some recognition here.

You can say what you want abt his skill, but the passion and leadership was always there. He was tough, hit guys and wasn’t afraid to drop the gloves. But most importantly he did so much off the ice, and was a great locker room guy/mentor for the younger group. Despite getting trashed on for years he still loves this team and the fans. Absolute class act and everything a captain should be.
