Hey Chuck, Just thought I'd drop you a line after watching you for so long to say a big thank you. it's been long overdue! I leanrt everything I know directly from you and your excellent tips on leather craft. I wouldn't be as good with my projects without you sharing your knowledge. I don't live in the U.S. i'm in Europe, but if ever I find myself in your neck of the woods, I'll be sure to give you a visit. Thanks again. :)

Great advice that would have saved me a lot of messing about when I built my own cowboy holster. I got the loops to fit perfectly and then I applied a bees wax finish to my leather and that made the loops a bit to tight. So apply your finish and then try to see if the bullets still fit before sewing every loop on your belt.

yessir some good information for the uninitiated in the crafting of gunbelt bullet loops. I learned a long time ago by trial and error and found that stitching between the loops was best for me..took longer like you say but in the end looks better in my opinion. I'd like to see a video on your tool bench and tool holders on the wall behind the bench..I'm fixin to redo mine and am always looking for new and better ideas...keep up the Great work Chuck and Weaver!

On my first cartridge belt I did sewn loops, one vertical stitch and a connecting angled stitch between each vertical. It looked really good and it took soooooooooo long. I don't think I would do stitched loops again unless I had a machine. I really like oblongs and if you want a bit more decoration you can drop a small head rivet between the loops.

I made an ammo belt for 40 .30-30 cartridges. I used the sew-down method with two stitch lines in between cartridges. 12 oz leather for the belt and 6 oz for the loops. Start to finish was about 10 hours. I would have used the oblong method to save time, but I don't like the look of it and I feel it is less secure.

I like your stitch method the best. It really adds to the appearance of the belt. That's a great color on that rig you showed as well. Was the latigo lace on the holster for a purpose or just for looks?

I always stitch between each loop. Did one from a kit that had the belt punched with oblongs for the strip. Didn't like the placement and the spacing was awkward. Never again. Wet form tip was great. Why didn't I think of that? I seem to ask that question way too often!

NO MATTER WHAT, DO NOT PUT 22LR OR ANY CASE THAT SMALL IN BULLER LOOPS! Use a pouch for loose rounds or make a square holder for the 50 round boxes bullets came in! And for 9mm and 45acp, don't do it because they don't have rims like 357 and 45 Colt and will slip down and out!

Yeah i bought an awesome leather gun belt in good condition. The only problem is who ever owned it failed to keep the leather conditioned and supple so when i tried to insert some bullets the loops disintegrated in my hand. Im not a leather worker and have zero tools and knowledge on working with leather but i might attempt to fix it one day but am afraid ill only damage the belt trying to get the rivets out, other than the bullet loops the belt is good and i got it at a decent price so not a total loss. I guess ill use a Bandolier for now for the ammo.

I'm working on restoring a similar project and its the first leather work I've ever done. I was so worried to pop the rivets out and take it all apart. Luckily weaver has a video on removing rivets with a drill and everything went absolutely perfect. Unlike the video we didnt have a way to dent the top middle of the rivet so we just used a slightly bigger drill bit and went super slow and it still worked out fine. Here's the link, hope it helps and good luck! kzbin.info/www/bejne/fn29i6OjYtemhqM

I would be willing to bet that others have opinions on stitch lines between bullet loops. Some of those opinions are bound to match your opinion, so the opinion in question is not only your opinion. :-) I'm not a gun person. Considering the options you've presented, if I ever have occasion to make a belt with bullet loops, I think I would be inclined to share your opinion and stitch between the loops.

Hi Chuck Me again: Please take this comment JUST from MY point of view, as I cannot speak for everyone, but I'm sure there are those of us who are thinking the same thing. You "blew through" this pretty fast and (for me) there were some rough to understand parts during the math? That being said, I'd have rather seen you go slower and more deliberately on LESS different calibers; making it easier to grasp the math part. When you started going 90 mph with the metric as well as American size measurements, you just completely lost me? Before I could comprehend what you had said, you were off to the next set of measurements. Here again; LOVE your videos, and have NEVER had anything negative to say about them, until this one. Thank you for putting this video out for the holster makers. I've been a customer of WLC and a channel subscriber since day one, and I don't see that changing? Stay safe. Keep your head down and don't take any wooden nickles. Showing my age there.:+)))) God bless: Dave
