Excellent video, wish it had been around when I was starting out. For smaller straps (at or under 1"), I tend to use one of the Nippers I got from Weaver, as long as I position them right, they do a great and relatively fast job of removing double cap rivets. Have to watch so I don't catch leather with them, although usually any scars that do occur are on the inside where it can't be seen. I have used the drill press method in the past (before I got the nippers) and when I have a piece I can't use the nippers on, although one difference is my drill press has a 1" hole in the center so don't drill into anything except the rivet. Although I had not thought of re-tapping the the rivet before continuing the drill, thanks for that info. It is why I watch the videos to pick up the occasional helpful hint.

To get rivets out, I use single ear clamp cutters. It works great with no damage to the leather. A quick snip and you’re ready to reset the rivet. Best regards, Richard

To help prevent marring the leather, painters tape on the locking plier jaw that will touch leather works wonders. Would like a video on more advance stitching patterns, something other than the basic saddle stitch. Thanks for sharing.

I had to learn these lessons on my own when i messed up on my projects. Maybe it'll save someone who's just beginning to build leather projects.

Hey Chuck, first of all, thanks for all these videos, they’re fantastic. I do have question I haven’t been able to find an answer to, how can I burnish an edge where a veg tan and suede lining meet?
@WeaverLeatherSupply2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately suede does not burnish very well. You can still burnish but the veg will get nice and slick and the suede side will not. Another option would be to use an edge dye and that would create a nice smooth finished look. Hope that helps!

@@WeaverLeatherSupply You meant to say edge paint, not dye, right?
