In this video, Chuck will be showing you some ways to set a rivet in a hard to reach area of your leather project. From setting snaps or rivets on the front of a bag after it's been assembled to punching a hole in a finished sword scabbard. We hope this answers some of your questions!

Exactly what I was looking for. Combinations of materials for odd shaped items. Perfect Chuck. Thought I was going to have to buy some small steel blocks. The easily available steel bar is the perfect solution. Thanks Chuck.

Chuck, you know in order to be leather craftsman, you have to be a “Jack” of all trades and also have some “Rub Goldstein” at hand. It all tools of the trade red to be new and expensive. You have to make do with what ever is handy. Watching your video, you broadcasted exactly what I’ve been thinking. Best regards, Richard

Thank you so much, Chuck! I am a relatively new leather crafter, and I am so appreciative of all of the valuable information that you share with the world! Currently, I am nearing completion of my first "major" project (a Celtic-tooled handbag), and I have been experiencing a hang-up with how to set rivets in the awkward space created by the gusset. Your video saved the day, and I am excited to confidently move forward with this step! I look forward to watching more of your videos and learning as much as I can about this exciting craft! :)

K-I-S-S.. Simplicity is always great, sometimes we get so wrapped up in the cool new tools that we forget where we started, using whatever we have handy to get the job done. Great reminder to just Keep It Simple Stu....

Thanks Chuck. I was wondering how I was going to replace old rivets and snaps. I have some bar strap left over from another project and now I know what i am going to do with it. Good tips and information.

Love the video as usual, they are always very informative! Still hoping to see a video demonstrating different leather finishes. The strengths and weaknesses, water resistant, ability to help prevent bleed, etc. I have yet to find a good source for that information and think it would be a hit.

Thank you so much for this info Chuck!!! Since I don't use patterns, I always have to wait till the bag is fully constructed before I know where the closure should be. I'll stress no more!! I just bought a 4x12 x1/4" heavy metal stock. It works perfect, so many thanks!! xo

As usual another great video Chuck! So basically just about anything around a workshop can be pressed into service for this. I have actually used my needle nose pliers as a small anvil before but I hadn’t thought about using some flat bar on a 2 by 2 like that before. I’ll be making that jig soon.

Great video Chuck, had a 15mm popper I was trying to set yesterday, stitched my poiuch up but forgot to set the popper. Had no choice but to unstitch one of the sides. Managed to get there in the end but was a bugger to set. I need more bar stock and 2x4's lol

Cheap "Bar Stock" can be found in old bed frames or anything that supported a mattress and box spring. Just get a cheap hacksaw with a metal-cutting blade and cut any size you like.

Thank you sir for another informative video. Will definitely come in handy in the next couple weeks as I assemble my first suit of armor. But as I watched your videos yesterday. I got to thinking. What inspired you to get into the leather craft? Whatever it was I'm glad you did. I wouldn't have delved as deeply into the craft if it wasn't for your breakdown of projects into their elements. So thank you again for passing on your knowledge of the craft to all of us.

Another outstanding video by Chuck and crew. So much great information presented quickly and in an entertaining way. I have some rivets on some bookmarks that have tarnished; I can use Wenol on them to polish them, but I am concerned long-term about tarnishing more since the rivet is where the customer grabs the bookmark. What do I do? Thank you!
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 4 жыл бұрын
So glad you like the videos! Thank you for letting us know! Unfortunately, I don’t have a good answer. A good steel, brass or plated rivet should take years and years before tarnish starts to show up and the oils in our hands shouldn’t have a big effect on it. The leather, on the other hand, may be part of the issue. A good veg won’t tarnish, but, if a project is fully in the elements it will and a chrome has a much higher risk of tarnish with or without. It’s not much of an answer, but, there is only so much we can do as the manufacturers and we don’t have control over time, use and the elements.

Here is your next leather element. Rifle case, what is the best leather besides plain veggie tan?
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 4 жыл бұрын
The veg is the best possible for the gun itself. An English Bridle is one of my favorites but I haven’t used it for a holster or gun case. It’s got some tallow in it which isn’t an issue but I just can’t give you a good call on it. Other veg-tans can have some oil content and that will definitely work on the metal, so, look for a veg that has as little treatment as possible.

I'm a leather worker and woodworker and want to make a tool bag, but my longest plane is 24" long and heavy. Wood is heavier than leather. I was thinking of using 12 oz for the bottom and 3" up the sides, then 8 - 9 oz for the rest. Now assembling it now, well that's the fly in the ointment. I would appreciate some guidance if possible. Thanks in advance.
