Always nice to see the Pulse, a great tool even now, the toolset is hard to beat. The centre punch was probably used on the plier head to tighten it up. However, a better way is to use a set of decent grips and slightly rotate the centre part, this tightens it up again.

Try rolling your thumb on the lock place thumb on lock and roll towards wrist
