I feel like anyone who had actually watched the movie would know that they're not arguing that climate change isnt happening. In fact it's far worse because all of our solutions (wind, solar, ect.) have to be done on a mass scale using fossil fuels because of our insane levels of consumption. The film is called "Planet Of The Humans" for a reason, we're overusing this planet's resources so much that any technological fix will not be able to help us maintain this lifestyle.
@johnkauai58654 жыл бұрын
Well, if their point was, "There are too many people on this planet", they completely failed to make it. Rather they blamed those looking for solutions for failing. The more I think about it, the angrier I get. Guy McPhearson doesn't "pretend". He says the human race will be extinct by 2030 and he's probably right. Does this "documentary" interview him? Nope. It is just whining that they didn't realize the central fact that there are "too many people in the world". DoH! Who hasn't known this for decades? Talk about being an Ostrich.
@saintejeannedarc94604 жыл бұрын
I disagree. We're adapt and innovate. If you had told people a mere one hundred years ago what would be possible now, they wouldn't believe you. If you could tell people several hundred years ago what is happening now, they'd likely just commit you. I've seen it change so much in 52 yrs. We're going to see it change so much more in the next 50. We will get unfathomably better at concentrating energy use and making power plants so much smaller. One small for instance is the size of our old Beach propane furnace took up our sunroom and was a power hog. Now they are the size of a box and take put your power consumption to a fraction of the old Beach (which is a defunct company now). Repair guys would laugh w/ nostalgia when they saw it. Mind you, you could actually fix those darn things, now they are planned to be replaced (how about that climate change we're so paranoid about and all that sustainable development nonsense buzzwords when everything is made to be tossed in a few yrs and not much is fixable?). Anyhoo, the darn Beach was blowing up a bit here and there. A sunroom reno had left lots of sawdust in it and it would sometimes blow our backdoor open. Ron went to go light the pilot (not realizing all this yet) and singed his eyebrows, lol. God did I laugh at the dufus, he's lucky that's all he singed.

@@saintejeannedarc9460 I hear you, but we dont have 50 years. According to the IPCC we have less than 12, and the only time emissions have actually dropped has not been when we've been trying to invent our way out of it, but in 2008 and right now, moments of crisis where we have had to scale back. I want to do everything possible so people dont have to undergo that kind of suffering, but we have to find a way to achieve those same levels of reduced consumption while still living a dignified life, and that requires government measures and lifestyle changes.
@ingk24 жыл бұрын
@@johnkauai5865 Unfortunately not a lot of people have taken the central point of humans over extending our resources seriously, and it's obvious since governments havent done anything to stop it. Instead, all the focus from NGOs and climate groups in the past 30 years, excluding people like XR, has been to lobby governments to adopt cap and trade schemes and embrace green technologies, and we've seen the result: the only time emissions have temporarily dropped is during the 2008 crash and this pandemic due to reduced consumption. Otherwise, despite all this lobbying, emissions have continued to rise. As a staunch environmentalist, I think this critique of the environmentalist movement was necessary and ultimately constructive. If we are able to reduce our energy consumption by having non-essential services working from home and that is having drastic effects, why dont we in the climate movement seize this opportunity to push governments to maintain some social distancing policies, while ensuring dignity and peoples well being, as a way of solving two crises at once?

@@SnaykEyes77 Feelings? Well, actually, the documentary annoyed me because it contained so many errors, and yes, that does make me angry. If you want me to part to the part which supposedly 'hurt me', basically all of the third of it I've watched so far. As I responded to Bobby Jones.... I am working on an article for Renewable Energy Magazine right now on this. I am only a third of the way through the film and already the errors are piling up. So, you know that scene where there is this electric vehicle (EV) being celebrated outside the offices of a utility, and the execs say, this is going to be powered by a mix of 95 percent coal? That interview took place in 2010. The utility in that scene is now engaged in closing down it's last coal plant. Do they tell you that in the film? Er no. Ozzie Zehner, who you see talking about what solar panels are made of, he wrote this book called "Green Illusions". That book was criticised almost immediately it came out, for example by Chris Meehan here: www.cleanenergyauthority.com/solar-energy-news/green-illusions-distorts-solar-on-environment-060712 So, Zehner says, for example that solar panel manufacturing produces sodium hexafluoride which is 23,000 times as bad as CO2 - that's what he says - well, actually, other energy sources also produce sodium hexafluoride (SF6) but in much greater quantities. Also, SF6 with regard to solar manufacturing, 86 percent of the emissions associated with it is for manufacturing semiconductors, while only 7 percent is associated with the manufacturing process itself. SF6 may indeed be 23,000 times as bad as CO2, but how much of it is actually emitted? Actually, SF6 is a very small contributor to overall greenhouse gas emissions, representing only about 2/10ths of 1 percent of the total. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) did an extensive study into lifecycle emissions, using 2,100 published references on this topic and subjecting all of them to three rounds of critical reviews. NREL found that, even at the highest estimate, solar panel manufacturing accounts for just 40 percent of the emissions produced by natural gas and 20 percent of the emissions produced by coal. These particular points were drawn from a meta-analysis of 46 estimates drawn from 17 studies. So, clearly, Zehner, just on solar alone, has made a number of major mistakes, peddled a load of major untruths, and it is worth mentioning therefore that energy consultant Edgar DeMeo of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) also scrutinised Zehner's book and concluded that it “perpetuates several myths about wind power” and “suffers from a basic misunderstanding of how the electric power system operates” while also indulging in a "sensationalist tendency to bash wind". You know what? Zehner worked alongside Gibbs and Moore to produce Planet of the Humans, so if Moore and Gibbs employed Zehner, with all the errors he made in his book, how many more errors are there in the film? I would say probably quite a lot. As I said, I am still in the early days of examining the film, and its producers, and how much they actually know about this subject, and already, not even halfway and its obvious it's total crap. If you want an even longer list of errors, just wait until I finish watching the film and deconstructing it, and I will be most certainly happy to supply that list.
@dnboro4 жыл бұрын
I would have thought to to be classified as "well documented", they might just have to show some actual facts and figures to back up some of the ridiculous claims. When they say that instead of using fossil fuels to make the solar array, they would be better just burning the fossil fuel to make the power instead, did they do a side by side comparison of the whole of life emissions of both options. NO. Why not? Simple - it would have destroyed their argument. When they go on about how much steel and glass in the solar thermal array in the dessert - did they also quantify how much steel, and cement goes into building a coal fired power station + the railroads from the coal mine + the steel in the coal carts and trains and the diesel that drives the trains? NO. Why not? I only watched a portion of this film and it is clear that it is far from "well documented". But I am sure it says exactly what you want to hear despite any lack of evidence.

The film is about the truth. I'm an environmentalist and I thoroughly appreciated this film. There's always two sides to every story. In order to move in the right direction, we need to look at what works and what doesn't work. Going through life with blinders on gets us nowhere. I can't believe after the horrible fires in Australia and the US, people still believe the environment is "getting better." Moore was only trying to show the problems we're facing now so we can try to fix them.
@billrehm35904 жыл бұрын
The fires in Australia weren't even in the top seven in their history. The worst fire was 5 times larger than this year . I think it was in 1974, it was called black Friday. In 74 I was a junior in high school. They were calling for a coming ice age back then not global warming.

Bill Rehm probably time to get across the new science and what’s happening to the world, but I suspect boomers like yourself aren’t too concerned, as you won’t have to deal with the mess that is being left behind for future generations. No one wants to change. It’s terrible. We don’t need people who don’t understand the science, throwing their hands up and saying “but we’ve had worse environmental disasters before, so oh well, carry on as usual everyone”.
@billrehm35904 жыл бұрын
@@DF-xv6uq facts are facts. Don't get your feelings hurt, snowflake. The forest burns on average every 10 years. If you put ever small fire out it eventually builds up and you get large fires.
@DF-xv6uq4 жыл бұрын
Bill Rehm snowflake? Wow. I’m so offended. 😂 actually you’re entirely wrong. I don’t know what “facts” you think you’re looking at, but fire fuel is built up due to human interference. Ground dwelling animals that would ordinarily eat the fire fuel have become almost extinct over the past 100 years thanks to humans. The firefighters themselves say they can no longer successfully back burn because of the longer and hotter seasons that increase the risks of out of control fires. And every year, fire is a natural way to help regenerate certain forest types to release seeds and encourage new and denser shrubs. These naturally occur from lightening strikes, but new weather phenomena is increasing the amount of lightening and the dryer (drought) and hotter, longer seasons are seeing fires destroy the country at rates that mean these forests can never recover in a million years. These fires are burning hotter and higher and longer and faster. They don’t regenerate anything. Rainforests that are not designed to burn, are burning due to climate change (lack of rain and moisture). You clearly have no idea that there are a number of contributing factors (not just human fire bugs or lack of back burning) that are causing these events to occur. And they are completely our fault. Nothing natural about it, unless you consider humans no different to parasites that destroy their host.

I’ve worked in the energy industry for years, and it’s maddening how ill informed and mislead people are about how energy is made and how inefficient renewables are. But for some reason, we need to completely dismantle and destroy our current infrastructure because it’s not environmentally friendly. Well considering no replacement technology exists, you’re either gonna have to put up with it until something more viable comes along, or learn how to cook your meals with a magnifying glass. Because heaven forbid you use anything else..
