I’m proud to conduct and present Black, Brown and Beige at the Grafenegg Fedtival in Austria with the Tonkunstlet Orchestra on June 26, 2021, and also in Turin with The OSNRAI Orchestra with Joplin’s Treemonisha Overture, Bernstein’s Fancy Free and the European premiere of Black American composer Quinn Mason, this June 17, 2021, to be followed by Marsalis’ Grammy winning violin concerto with Nicola Benedetti, and Gershwin’s Catfish Row from Porgy and Bess, July 1, 2021. This is American music today in Europe!

‘Black, Brown and Beige’ tells the history of Black Americans and was Duke Ellington’s daring attempt to transform attitudes about race, elevate American Jazz music on par with European classical music and challenge America to live up to her founding principles of freedom and equality for all.
