Apparently I am one of this rare people that had no issues with this comeback? I agree with other people commenting that TWICE was severely overworked. Never again, please!

More & More was my most listened to song on Spotify for a LONG TIME. I love this song. I don't count it as my first comeback as a fan just because I wasn't actively anticipating it. It popped up in my subscription feed of course, but I didn't know a comeback was happening. Still, I liked it a lot, and it sort of set the foundations of me becoming a giant fan. I get why people don't like it, but there's just something about it that really appeals to me. I've always had weird taste though, and, while even I probably wouldn't list it among my top favorite Twice title tracks today, it has a very special place in my heart.

I feel the same way! I don't think it's one of my favorite title tracks of theirs, but I'm very protective of it haha - I also don't think it's a bad song by any measure, it's just different for TWICE and, in a lot of ways, different for kpop

not being super active in online kpop communities always makes it so jarring when i watch ktubers talk about fan reactions to my favorite comebacks LOL. what do you mean people didn't like more & more, really bad boy, or loco??? those are literally some of my favorite kpop songs????? 😭

I love all of those songs too haha - I think it's best to not be involved with crowds of people who are outwardly critical of kpop songs right when they release, because almost always, people change their minds very quickly

More and more is one of my favourite Twice comebacks because of how different it was to everything that came before it hahaha also the MV, outfits, choreo and MV concept + album concepts linked with Eyes Wide Open was just perfecttt like seriously, the MV set and costume design is incredibly beautiful and actually using real set and props, which is a big and fresh change to their prior MVs (which I really like but it was the perfect time for something new!)

also the B-sides on More and More album were getting more and more expressive and showing a new mature side of twice!

I feel like people were also overall harsher on 2020 kpop releases because we were all trapped because of the pandemic. I feel like it made people want every artist’s release to be the best release ever because everyone was so bored. There were a lot of releases in 2020 that were like…. Fine but became weirdly infamous for being a group’s mini flop era.

Honestly, looking back at the sales of the album, 9 month wait & built anticipation, that comeback had the potential to be their biggest one yet. Everything was building up towards them having a glorious moment, all they needed was a really good song. IMO, the change of style wouldn’t have been such a big issue if the song itself landed with the public. I got into kpop around the time Boy With Luv dropped which was also when Fancy dropped and my introduction to Twice was that era, I didn’t know them for their cute concept but I remember how much people were talking about this departure and how significant it was. I didn’t know much about charts back then but I am hearing now from you how both Fancy & Feel Special didn’t meet their previous levels of success which is shocking cause I remember these songs being huge, I guess it was indeed more international wise. I recall the moment More & More dropped and how divisive people were on it & I wasn’t even on twitter at that time, just youtube. Is it too late for them to have a massive comeback and win Korea over again? Idk... maybe you can explore that thought some day in a video, I’d love to hear your take since you are a once.
@choujimi
@choujimi 7 ай бұрын
I definitely agree - if the More & More comeback kept it's style, and just had a different song/different choreography, it probably would've been a success. I also think the idea of them having a resurgence in Korea is pretty interesting, and I think I have some ideas about that. I'll probably make a video about it later!

I don’t think I would have ever gotten into Twice if they hadn’t released more and more. I was such a new kpop listener and I really didn’t get their cute concept at first, but the ethereal feel to more and more was different to what I was listening to at the time and the choreography blew me away. I definitely understand the controversy, but I’ll always love it wholeheartedly

That’s a good point! I’m sure M&M did do a lot of marketing towards people who weren’t sure about the cute concept/kpop in general, and earned them a lot of fans who otherwise wouldn’t have listened to their other songs

More & More was the first (and third to last...) comeback I was strictly following for twice. I remember it was the pandemic and i was studying for my June exams. The song released on the 2nd if i remember correctly. Their teasers were my escape from studying all day. I was SO obsessed with the song and the whole concept. And I still am! IMO, More & more, I can't stop me and Alcohol Free is the last time Twice was truly incredible, when it comes to Korean comebacks. Absolute slays left and right. I am still gagged by the outfits and how dreamy the music videos are. So good!!

More and More has always been THAT GIRL! I hated that people hated on it so much. Finally we got to see a different kind of Twice which was still feminine and bubbly but also hard hitting. Will we ever get another crazy choreo like this from them?!

It's always a good day when choujimi uploads a TWICE vidd. As a fan who's been present during the more and more era, I didn't like the song from the get go. Kinda took me 8 to 10 repeats before I got it. Haha. It indeed doesn't sound like a TWICE song, yes, it sounded like any other group could pull it off, BUT idk if any other group could pull off More and More the way TWICE did. It wasn't intended for them, but they still owned it imo. The Momo dance break always reminds me of the Ooh-Aah era dance break. The vocals 👌 THEY OWNED IT. Though I can see the no point choreo part affect their popularity, coz easy choreos are usually the ones that go viral. But meh. I don't think it should affect em that much. And about the concept shift, there's just no way to make people happy. No Change = they complain, Big change = they still complain. Lol. Hahaha Though the "failed" expectations kinda suck, I think it's their fault for expecting too much anyways. They get sucked in their imaginations and theories, then when it doesn't match the actual comeback, they blame the group. Lol. Just seems silly to me. Btw I'm the JPop guy that comments on almost every twice vid here. Lol. Just kinda wanna use this acct rn. Haha.

Nice to see you again! And yeah, I agree completely with you! Especially the part about how people shouldn't have gone in with impossibly high expectations - TWICE was already entering a period of their career where they didn't have much left to prove as far as their initial concept went. They did (and still do) have every right to do whatever they want, especially for how hard they've worked throughout their entire career with very little break periods
@kaijiezips
@kaijiezips 7 ай бұрын
@@choujimi yeah. They've done everything that there is to to do with their initial concept. If they stuck with it, people would just it as JYPE beating a dead horse, and people will leave. Changing concepts is the only step that they have left at that point. Besides, they're getting older. Cute concepts wouldn't really suit em anymore. I just wish people would be more open-minded with these type of things, instead of just yapping nonsense without even thinking.

i’ve been a once since 2017 so i was around for more and mores release and i was one of the onces who was disappointed. i’ve never thought it was a bad song but i do think it doesn’t feel like twice. with icsm being released after i thought, this concept is very different from early twice but still feels like twice. that being said when i heard it live in 2022 it instantly rose from the bottom of my list to the middle. it is so SO good live.

More and more is truthfully one of my least favorite Twice songs (I struggle so hard with summer concepts) but I still really like it! I’ve only been Once since they released Between 1&2 so I joined way after they’d changed up their sound, meaning I don’t associate Twice with any particular sound/genre. I can understand why More and More would be divisive coming from their cutesy concept then the chic concept, but since I’d heard their cutesy, chic, more grownup, back to the cute sound, more and more doesn’t bother me that much. I think changing the soundscape up so much was a good idea in the long term because new fans who did a deep dive into their discography (like me lol) would hear all these different things and not have the background of being Once through only one or two concepts (like Once in summer 2020) so they wouldn’t be as surprised I guess? So they could continue changing up their sound and new fans wouldn’t get as upset for a sound change? I say that, but I don’t really engage with the fandom so idk if new fans hate Twice’s sound changes, but I know I don’t and I’m fine with them changing things up. I hate that this song was so divisive and the girlies got so much flack for it because it’s not a bad song and to me it does feel like a Twice song. In my opinion, Twice has released a lot of their best work since More and More when they did allow themselves to change it up, so I appreciate More and More a lot for getting the ball rolling I feel like my comments are always so long lol but I love talking about Twice so… thanks for reading 🤪

That's a good point, and something I didn't really think about. For ONCEs who became fans of TWICE later on, I think it's their more experimental songs like More & More, Alcohol-Free, etc. that can really help new fans begin to explore their discography, and place anchors on the unique songs and albums that don't sound like anything else they've ever done. If twice would've always stayed in the same place, and as big as their discography is, it definitely would've made newer fans even more overwhelmed haha

as someone who only started knowing and paying attention to twice in 2019 (also the year i first started listening to kpop more intensively) but never followed discussions around them, i had no idea it was poorly received by many kpop fans. i personally like their more mature/chic sound they started with fancy, though i also understand why their bubblegum pop era was so loved

This whole album is a stand out favorite of mine. I got really into twice just weeks before Covid so it came out at the perfect time for me. I learned as much of the dance as I could after all their dances are what attracted me to the group. It’s definitely underrated who cares if it’s not exactly the same recipe they’ve used before I kinda love it more for that

I loved more and more… it was the first comeback after I became a fan and I remember seeing it frame by frame to get wallpapers from it. I love it all and was sad that in many concert they did not play it. I was lucky that the first one in Melbourne they play it but didn’t do the dance…. I love the choreography, but I understand is hard for a concert…. Hope I can see it again!

You know I think JYPE set Twice up in 2020 as with More & More TWICE got dragged for their vocals during encore stages then a few months later they had I Can’t Stop Me with a vocally demanding chorus the members were struggling to hit.

I became a ONCE right after Alcohol-Free, and I always thought of MORE&MORE as just the summer version of what they were doing at the time, so, just a mature stylized version of Dance the Night Away. When you listen to it along their entire dischography chronologically, sure, I get why it can be jarring, but I like that TWICE is one of those groups that has always been less afraid to experiment sonically. Plus, that was my initial perception of K-Pop, I thought it was supposed to be more experimental, or at the very least not tied to the trends of popular music. I think that was a lot of the Japanese influence. I tend to gravitate more towards the recent Japanese comebacks of TWICE. Regardless of everything, I liked More & More, I think the album had a lot of the most beloved B-sides, which, true ONCEs know TWICE is an album group, not a singles one, tho they still always managed to have hits.

TLDR: I hated M&M and the album at first, but given time, I began to like it. Honestly I wanted to make a whole essay on why I hated M&M (The whole album), but you pretty much summed it up. The move from the mature/one of twice's best song (musically imo) Feel Special, to this was.... jarring. At the time, I was so disappointed in them because I felt like everything you stated in the video. BUT as time went on, I caught myself humming the prechorus and realized that it wasn't so bad, which turned into the entire song not being bad. I had pre conceived notions that Twice would do a Apink route, gradually become more mature with their sound, I'm So Sick -> Eung Eung, but they went on a weird route where they did a hard right.
@choujimi
@choujimi 2 ай бұрын
I feel a similar way about the pre-conceived notions! I had a lot of ideas about where twice would go after each release, and when it was completely different from what I was expecting, it took me a while to adjust to what it actually was in order to be able to appreciate it Time has healed a lot of those wounds haha- it’s hard to believe there was a time where I ever questioned More & More now

Since the day it came out, I've always loved More and More. Watching this makes me think a big reason for that was my unfamiliarity with Twice at that time. Honestly i still wouldn't call myself a Once today and I had been into kpop for less than a year when More and More came out so I didn't really know or care about how More and More fit into their discography. All I was thinking was "It's a happy song so it fits Twice😀" so I was really confused as to why everybody else hated it. I think the claim that it's too generic is valid but I personally do not care. I think that ties back to me not caring about Twice's overall concept and sound but also sometimes generic songs still slap. Generic doesn't always equal bad.
