The only thing I disagree with is that humans learn the same way as generative AI does. Humans perceive things differently, our muscle memory works differently, what, how, and when we learned things influences how we create it. You will always see someone's peronal touch in the art they create, even when they try to replicate something (unless they're insane forgerers who have spent decades learning how to copy someone, but even they have to make sure to not let their personal touch shine through). AI doesn't do that. AI can't add their personality. Show a human artist five Jonas Jödicke digital drawings and ask them to draw something in that style, and you'll be able to see which favorite brushes they use, how versed they are in the programm they use, and how much experience they have with digital drawing. They will focus on different small details than Jonas does, their lines will be different than his. Ask a generativ AI machine the same, and it'll just create a mashup of the drawings. The only difference you will see is which image was used more for the recreation than the others. Generativ AI isn't copyrightable and its impact on the environment is way too severe (one midjourney prompt could charge nine iPhones from 0 to 100%). People said NFT's are here to stay, or that Bitcoin will become a maisntream payment option quickly. Look what happened to it. But hey, Trump just shilled for his own memecoin, so what do I know

I've been always pretty neutral on naevis until I found out about the use of generative AI (this vid lol). I thought that she was an animated/virtual character that had a voice actor + singer working behind the scenes and that she'd drop a song or two within aespa's lore or something. While I appreciate SM pushing forward with aespa's lore (which I know none of tbh) as a world-building fanatic, I agree that 1. SM could use their resources in other ways (i.e other SM artists) which is the argument I see against naevis the most tbh and 2. SM shouldn't be using generative AI in any instance at all. I think that avatar-using idols aren't harmful otherwise though, virtual, animated, all the likes. Plave seems to get airplay in Korea and they seem to have a fanbase. Why piss on someone's parade when we can all have our own parades and co-exist (unless it's generative AI, fuck that lol)? Anyways, disappointed but not surprised when it comes to anything that SM does unfortunately.

Red Velvet never does anything twice yet... After Bad Boy, they never ventured back into a Velvet concept again. And yall can be delulu and say that Psycho and Chill Kill are Velvet, they aren't. I know I sound like a whiny fan but the actual Velvet concept made me a fan in the first place. And I LOVE RBB, I love their Red songs and their experimental sound. But... it just get so damn tiring. AI concepts were fun before AI was real. Now it's just lame and cheap. It's no longer a novelty when everyone is capable of doing it. Morally, I don't like supporting gen AI, but when it's as bad as Naevis' debut was it's not difficult. From what I can tell, most of the visuals are not AI generated. She has a 3D model they use on occasion, but they use a real dancer for her body. They use DeepFakes to composite Naevis' face on the dancer. You can see it morph on a few frames where the hand goes over her face. For Naevis' voice they likely had someone sing the original song and created a voice model of all the aespa members to add as a filter over it.

Companies trying to assert AI as cool or the future are so fcking lame. Also... Why have a nonreal artist but give them the most generic hyper realistic appearance?? Like at that point, the only selling point is that she's AI. When there are interesting fictional artists like vocaloids or the Gorillaz, Naevis is really just a soulless and uninteresting character.

The music video was super cool! Even though 'her' debut was quite useless, seeing these diffirent art styles and realistic game looks are cool, and it's a interesting take on ai, but is it actually USEFULL, and can it be successful in the kpop market...eh not really.

I tried my best to write a paper on this exact topic for philosophy last semester and i failed miserably. I wish I could articulate myself like you can and that i had focus the way you do to make so many videos at such high quality. Please never stop creating.

The amount of money that SM threw at this "technology for its own sake" slop instead of supporting their artist roster with more timely comebacks and live concerts is really discouraging. There are dozens of names in the credits for Naevis but it's never going to break even financially.... it's never going to be a concert draw, and it's never going to be a merch draw.

I think she should just be kind of like an aespa-related Hatsune Miku, a vocaloid of some sorts like you said. She would feel so much better and not be so "AI new and cool we need to use it now"

There was a world where Naevis would have been a Vocaloid. Someone would have provided their voice (with consent), would have been credited and payed (like for example, for a song with Hatsune Miku you want to monetize you have to get a license, and both Crypton and Saki Fujita will gain some money from all of this). SM may have made her a private voicebank, but it would have this sort of robotic futuristic sound naturally (and according to what type of sound they exactly want, they had a choice between lots of software... Like Vocaloid Editor and CeVio are classics, but for a more realistic sound Synthesizer V is a very nice software)... But she could have been a public voicebank you can buy too, to create things, since there's a whole niche of people who loves these things (I'm part of them). SM would have been able to fix the limits about what types of songs you can monetize with her voice, but it could have been very fun. I don't know which niche Naevis satisfies. She fails as a virtual singer as much as a "real one". She sounds weird but not in a good way, she gives nothing, the artistic direction is bland, it's a whole nothingburger navigating on the AI trend with nothing behind. I'm going to say something really dirty but... Hitman Bang was so much smarter than the SM executives on this. Maybe he was even some type of visionnary with SeeU years ago... This trash did at least create something with a soul, I have to give him that, and it hurts it took this uninspired Naevis to make me realize that. At the end of the day, there's only 2 K-Pop virtual divas in my world : SeeU and UNI.

If she was a genuine animated character with her own voice actor/singer, I think that would be so cool. And if she had her own mini-series that would be even cooler. However, the way she put together it makes me sad to be honest.

In my opinion, AI has two sides: one that is constructive and useful, and another that is exploitative and harmful. People should never use generative AI and claim the work it produces as their own. Doing so undermines the efforts of so many artists and poses a real danger to art forms as a whole. AI can be interesting and valuable if used properly, but using it to create and then claim work as your own especially in music or other creative fields is, to me, deeply unethical. On the positive side, AI can be a helpful tool if used in a way that supports your creativity, rather than replacing it. For instance, it can serve as a source of inspiration or help you refine an idea, but that’s not the same as taking what AI generates and running with it as if it’s entirely your own. Artificial intelligence CAN be useful, but we should tread carefully, especially regarding creative fields. If anyone else has thoughts or opinions regarding this, I’d love to hear them! I’m always open to discussions.
