i’m very proud of nayeon with all that she’s done for this album and comeback. the album is amazing and what i personally wanted to see from her in terms of style and concept. my ult group is twice as well and it will always be that way, and one of the reasons that is is because they can successfully pull off any concept given, through solo/unit or group. nayeon gave a good example of that with abcd 🩵

It doesn't even make sense. The overwhelming majority of Kpop groups will never achieve major western success. There are way too many groups and most of them are similiar. The majority of people want to listen to singers that speak their language. The audience for kpop is also incredibly small and won't grow that much. Trying to break into the west also isolates and annoys their home audiences which make up most of their ticket and alblum sales too. It's just a very odd business decision

personally i actually don't think the trucks are a bad idea, the whole point of them really is to be performative, and while i can agree that maybe that money might be better spent on fundraisers in gaza, i also think the trucks is such a huge attentiongrabber that i cant get on board with them being completely bad. they're grabbing attention and actively bringing a bad reputation to those companies, i especially think its a good thing for international fans to contribute to bc we all know those companies don't care unless the Korean public gets involved. idk i guess im hoping that by bringing as much public attention as possible to the issue the company will essentially be forced to do something.

I really loved Mr. Vampire, ngl I wish it had been an actual tt instead of born to be/untouchable. I think Itzy going in a more melodic/chill route like this for title tracks would be super cool and make them stand out amongst the crowd of y2k and girl crush that is super popular rn.

I've been boycotting most groups since early 2023 because of my staunch disagreement with debuting minors(nothing against the idols themselves but the execs and companies) since these days every group has a minor, was a bit hard to let go of my older 2nd/3rd gen fave songs. I still listen to stuff through less reputable methods and fanmade lyric videos but sometimes it feels like it's not making a dent and no one will notice apart from those who are taking part.

I feel like TWICE are in an interesting position where they're both in the prime of their careers AND a nostalgia act. K-Pop groups don't usually last as long as they do, or they at least take a long hiatus after a while without disbanding. It's as if Between 1&2 can also explain their place in the K-Pop industry where they aren't #1 anymore, but they're not necessarily falling off like you'd think they would be since they're selling out everything still as if they were still #1, placing them somewhere between #1 and #2. Like when you can't decide on a favorite, so you call them 1A and 1B. It's kind of like how Beyonce isn't as popular as Taylor Swift, but they still sell out the same stadiums by themselves. It all kind of just became irrelevant after a while. The feeling is still there of fans wanting their singles to be hits, since fans are obsessed with their ults success being validated, but it's as if TWICE and JYPE were taken so off guard by not comprehending why they're able to do these huge numbers despite it not translating to Korea as much anymore that they're in an awkward position of trying to figure out why they are as popular as they are internationally with each release. I'd recommend that they shouldn't try to figure it out and instead keep making the music they (the members, not the company) want to make, since it's who the members themselves are to their fans that got them where they are today. It's kind of like when a sports team wins multiple championships in one era, and even if they don't win again for a several years they will always have the dedicated fans that they gained from that era where it'd take disbanding for that to end. JYP lucked into his own Michael Jordan of a girl group. Many will debate for years to come if one group is bigger or better than TWICE ever was, but TWICE will always be in the GOAT debate regardless.

I’ve really enjoyed this album! The fully English songs and the R&B songs esp being an international fan. Heaven and Count in are my favs. But I’ve recently come across comments ABCD would’ve been good for Jihyo too and then I saw Jihyo do the dance with nayeon in their latest KZbin video and now I can’t help but feel bad for how her comeback wasn’t as big as nayeons and how this would’ve suited Jihyo too. I’m happy for Nayeon but wish jype would’ve put more budget in Jihyo comeback as well.

Yeah, in retrospective the budget discrepancy from POP! to Killin’ Me Good is pretty concerning. I don’t know how much of the creative direction was by Jihyo’s own request, so it’s kind of a tricky thing to talk about, but I wish Killin’ Me Good would’ve gotten more sets at the very least 😭

I honestly hope the reason why they rushed is because they knew lia would be on hiatus very soon and lia does know her lines and choreography and they didn’t wanna spend too much time relearning the format. Like if you look at some of the choreography, it’s so obvious there’s a missing spot that it’s hard for me to believe lia is just not in the know. Kinda like how with twice, they can cover some aspects with reformatting but others you just can’t do. I just can’t wait for the dance performance where Lia is there, I miss her so much

My personal ranking of the mini with reasons 1. Magic- carried the mini on first listen and it’s still carrying 2. HalliGalli- Akmu produced in the best way 3. Count it - decent song beautiful gown 4. Something - for the ballad H oes 5. Butterflies - good gown 6. Heaven- Lee Hyori Reject 7. ABCD- ok I’m not seeing the Beyoncé or BoA comparisons as someone who enjoys Beyoncé’s and BoA’s music, it’s more Brittany, Ariana grande, and some Mariah Carrey to me if we’re going to make comparisons, I don’t find the song enjoyable though, it’s a mid track which I guess has more marketing potential than other songs on the mini but that’s about it, Nayeon gives the song a great vocal performance but it doesn’t save the track for me, the production and writing are fine too but I really can’t bring myself to enjoy or want to listen to it, I’m not a nayeon anti, I fact she’s one of my ults but something isn’t clicking

I do agree with certain comments saying that ABCD sounds and looks like something that Jihyo would use as a comeback and I don't know how to feel about it... Correct me if I'm wrong but this first Twice related Korean project that has no songwriting/composing credits by member(s) in years, and to my casual fan ear it's pretty obvious. I don't know I guess I wanted to hear more songs such as All or nothing, Nayeon usually writes vulnerable and honest lyrics such as Depend on you and Rainbow and I thought this album was definitely missing it. Am I also the only one who was surprised by the amount of English in this album? Maybe that's usual from the producers of HYBE tho.

My opinion is exactly the same as yours omg. I mean, I liked the album and I think it's good, it's just that I expected it to have some songs written by Nayeon just like her debut album (in which she wrote 2 of the songs I think) and I also wanted like personal songs bc she's a good lyricist, but I can understand that it could have been bc some other reasons 🤔

as someone who wouldn't consider themsleves a once but has followed nayeons two solo releases, you can really tell that nayeon loves kpop as a genre. she loves what it was during her earlier years, what and where it came from. like you said, she didn't just want to become a singer, she wanted to be a kpop idol. and that love she has for the genre really elevates her solo work in my opinion.

In my perspective as someone who is not a Once, I think what makes the twice subunits and solos so successful is the fact that they truly understand that they are solo. They are acutely aware of the fact that they're going solo and they need to stand out from the group that they are known by. The solo and subunit matches the members so well and it makes them look like they can carry a career that is separate from twice as soloists because of their distinct sound from the group. They let her play with her sound and grow as an artist separate from her group.

I genuinely hope this release, its success & both gp and fan response serves as an indicator for JYP to switch it up for TWICE. Coming from some of the points made in your previous video of how westernization harmed Twice specifically, giving us overly generic uninteresting tt like SMF or One Spark (I LOVE both, but let's be real), ABCD seems like THE reference and route to take for the group as in not being afraid to try different things with more charisma, conceptual identity and fierceness. (Also, glad to see Nayeon getting her well deserved flowers for going from bubblegum Twice color pop to full on Britney 2000's realness and DEVOURING in both)
@AB-yk2pq
@AB-yk2pq 13 сағат бұрын
Still, ABCD is unfortunately not charting well in Korea, despite Nayeon's being the most known and liked there outside of Twice. I think Twice needs longer breaks as a group, more switch ups with producers (what they did Nayeon's comebacks), creative directors and even parts such as choreographies. However, I think that's almost impossible considering how certain members made it pretty clear that they're the most comfortable performing with others, so you can't just debut everyone solo during the group's hiatus.
@chromaticasforecast4419

@@AB-yk2pq Really?? How disappointing tbh, I expected it to grow and escalate the charts overtime :/ maybe with a few more days? Idk But yeah, even though us fans still support and even enjoy Twice, the group's narrative has gone stale since 2022. Yet, with ABCD, Dash and (to an extent) Untouchable I'm hopeful that JYP might end up getting back on track with their top GGs' music, yet the numbers aren't exactly proving this right yet (Born To Be's rollout and excessive MVs oversaturated ITZY's already picky audience and One Spark wasn't it, yet at least it seems like i-fans LOVED ABCD and Dash is def step into the right direction for Nmixx). But yeah, also it's clear that not all Twice members are solo material neither they all want that, and that we need TIME to miss the girls and get a fresh DIFFERENT approach in a new comeback.

I found the guy to be fine. Stupid in Love was kind of campy and cheesy; I found it inoffensive. I rolled my eyes at him liking BTS, which yeah, of course you’re going to like the biggest kpop group in the world. 😒 That is not inherently a bad thing, but if he mentioned a more unknown group or solo artist, I would believe that he likes the genre. That’s more of a me problem. Honestly, I’m more raising an eyebrow at him when it comes to his relationships with kpop stars. Then again, I’m an outsider in this scenario. I don’t know him personally. He could see them as friends or as tools. Only time will tell.

Moonlight Sunrise didn't eclipse nothing. "The feels" is still the only English Twice release worth mentioning; it went gold in the US and it also kept "Twice" colour. "Moonlight sunrise" is such a (bad) rip off of "Levitating" that even hard core fans online were singing the chorus changing the lyrics to Levitating. It became a literal joke on social media. There's no problem with having a more western song in the catalogue, but it becomes a problem when the song is such a blatant copy of a western song that it screams for a lawsuit. It makes the artist look lame, and it gives kpop a bad name. I hate JYP for that. Luckily "Moonlight sunrise" didn't do too well, because if it did , Dua Lipa would have sued (and rightly so). But when there's no money in a law suit they will let it slip. I was very bitter when I heard that song, since love lots of Twice songs and know the girls can do so much better
