Superman never felt American exclusive to me. He just felt human. He grew up in America, but he wasn't steeped in it's culture, he was steeped in a simple farm life, which is something universal to us. So, while he "is" American, he belongs to the world.

Yeah as a non-american who loves Superman I am kind of biased but, I always felt there's a mythology to his character that spans cultural boundaries. He's certainly an American creation but, like all great stories - his character is something anyone can identify with.

Technically he isn't American anymore. A while ago he actually renounced his American citizenship so he could better serve the world.

Ross did a cover tribute to Action Comics #1 and looks really nice. That said, It would have been really nice to have 5 page story by Morrison and Ross/Quitely.

My favorite Superman story has got to be "For the Man Who Has Everything". One of my all-time favorite Justice League episodes, loved the comic too. That part when he has to tell his dream son he doesn't think he's real, and then his rage at Mongul when he wakes up just always struck me, and I love it.

I love the comic but the cartoon adaptation at least to me feels like superman gets upstaged by wonder woman and I find the comic perfectly balanced having a bad ass wonder women fight but having Jason finish the fight gives everyone shine without upstaging the main character

I loved what Jason said near the end "We always hear the phrase that power corrupts... and it doesn't corrupt Superman." And for the Detective 1000 covers I'd love Dustin Nguyen as he's my favourite Batman artist.

I haven't finished the video but, I just want to say, if Jon's ignored I'll stop reading Superman and then I'll stop reading AC just to spite Bendis. Clark being a father is so obvious it blows my mind that it took almost 80 years to do it and the whole thing was so well handled. This is the kind of situation where I support editorial stepping in and saying "no, man, this is a big deal, you have to have moments with them."

@DrLynch2009
@DrLynch2009 6 жыл бұрын
It's not that they "don't remember" John Byrne, is that they dislike his run. DC today is managed by a group of 50+ years old men, mostly silver age nostalgia fanboys like Dan Didio, who have been trying for the last 16 years to erase anything Byrne contributed to the character. George Perez was not in the book becouse he can't draw this days as a result that he lost sight in his left eye. WTF Jawiin?! Jerry Ordways was in the book, he did the art for Louise Simonson story. I know, it is amazing how modern his style look this days but come on man.

What would comics be like without Superman? Why that's exactly what Alan Moore's America's Best Comics was about. Without Superman you get Tom Strong, one of the most underrated heroes of the Modern Age.

Favourite AC#1000 variant was probably Michael Cho's 40s variant. I grew up watching the Fleischer cartoons on VHS and it's how I was introduced to Superman, so I always enjoy seeing that style. As for DC#1000, I'm not hugely knowledgable on Batman artists, but I'd love to see one with the blue and grey, yellow oval batsuit. Maybe by a Kubert.

I really enjoyed Action Comics 1000 as well as Superman 45 and ASM 799, great day for comics! My favorite variant from Action Comics 1000 was the 30s variant so I was super excited when my local shop still had it in stock. As for Detective Comics 1000, I would love for them to do the decades variants again, I think it's a genius idea and Batman has arguably had even more distinct eras than Superman so it would be a lot of fun. And my favorite cover would probably be either by Capullo or Jock if either of them made one.

Jeph Loeb had the right to say what he said. If he was heard accepting that comment, he could get in big trouble; even fired due to a perceived conflict of interest. The only place this is allowed is at a Comic Con, or other event where all comic creators are gathered. Because it is neutral ground.

@54:30 Helena Wayne, I remember Benny talking about it last week, also do you guys remember right before the New 52 and after Infinite Crisis(after the "One Year Later" storyline), Catwoman gave birth to a baby girl named Helena and DC did not reveal who the father was, and then the New 52 happened and that storyline got completely scrapped

I was kind of hoping this would be more of a discussion of Superman's legacy. Y'all talked about AC 1000 for a half hour, DC 1000 for twenty minutes, and the actual legacy of Superman for maybe ten or fifteen minutes. Not a big deal, still gonna Like it, still gonna watch the next one, it's just this felt more like an episode of the Weekly Pull than Elseworlds Exchange.
