I agree. I prefer a happy ending but I think the movie ending captured the protagonist's purpose in life. It was a fitting conclusion.

What makes this so beautiful is that after the opening cadenza, the music could have become anything. A complex, nuanced jazz piece…but life happened. And every so often it can be beautiful

For how beautiful this scene is, it is also incredibly sad. He's making up a love story in his head, he dedicates a love song for her, but at the end of the day it's not real. He barely even speaks to her, it's all in his imagination

This scene demonstrates the contribution that music makes to a movie. Good music can give a scene power despite weak acting. Turning off the sound reveals the embarrassingly bad acting here but playing it back with sound brings out the emotion that the actor fails to do. No composer did it better than Ennio and it saddens me to think he was irreplaceable. His passing is such a great loss. I can't watch a movie without thinking how much better it would be if he had composed for it.

Sus dedos eran un grupo de baile y no su compañia; solo un espectador, no sus juguetes desde niño y solo su amigo nota que componia; no improvisaba, para la chica que se acicalaba viendose en el vidrio de la claraboya por verse bonita como para que alguien se enamorase de ella y cumplir con su rol de ama de casa, ..y "te de limon" ( su nombre) "mr 1900" leia sus gestos como pagina de solfa grabandolos del piano al disco. Para recordar ese amor tan inmenso como el mar y por siempre como al deslumbrante resplandor a mediodia. Supero en mucho a "el pianista" ( mal de tierra le llamo su contenido tan pro aliados como capitan America y Wonder woman y Hellboy que solo Dios si entenderan los infantes la verdadera trama de los señores ario facistas de guerras santas de la guerra global en todo) al menos en mi corazon ( y con Marte siguen con Starwars) y si pudieran, vuelta a empezar en Santa Ciudad Celestial ¿ Acaso escribio Juan Jerusalen ? El planeta es para todos y el paraiso tambien.
