"Animals had gods".... Weird...in the dub language i watched, it was said "when the animals were gods". Maybe its different in english. Never watched it in english. Might should tho... I still prefer "where animals were still gods"...it hurts more. (Just my personal opinion. Every other opinion is fine too)

From a Shintoism perspective, when animals were gods ('kami') make more sense. Japan still have many Inari shrines throughout the country worshipping fox shaped gods for good rice harvest.
