Hey, i am TechNils. As you might not have noticed, i am quite familiar to the game. I have close to 800 ranked games at 850 ELO now, slowly climbing... But: I did not play my best at all. Here is why: First excuse: I always play Random Civ. And Spanish i HATE. Second Excuse: I was so stubborn about not getting into his base, that i forget to boom, to build houses (oh man, that was a real bad period :-D), had no proper defense army prepared when it was all too late already. I would also like to respond to your assumptions of me not knowing certain things :-) As i often do, i built the monastery next to the relic to collect it later. Teching into Elite Conquistador not having one of them anymore was a big mistake, though i thought, i would need some powerful and mobile ranged units to deal with the camels better. Obviously, I know how to resign, maybe i was just talking to my girlfriend interrupting me after i sent the "gg wp" ;-) The game is actually quite old, i played it in mid-2020 iirc. All odds aside - i am happy to see the gameplay here and learn about the game of my opponent - what a dude :-D Keep it up, T90!

The answer is actually very simple. There is an open source game called 0 A.D. It was initially meant to be a mod for aoe2 but the developers ultimately ended up making a full fledged game. The point is, witihin 0 A.D males villagers get a 10% boost to resource gathering when they chop wood and mine, while females vils get the same boot while farming. Although, villager production isn't random, infact we have separate buildings for for producing female vills and male ones (which also double has generic infantry!) . My theory is that he is a kid that played way too much of 0 A.D and doesn't realizes that the same logic doesn't translate here. Side note: Do check out 0 A.D, its an awesome game and is completely free to play. Might not be as well balanced as aoe2 but all civs have a unique playstyle going for them.

I do the exact same thing with villagers and I've done it since I first started playing as a child. Played from the age of 6 to about 12 always segregating my villagers like this. Now since getting DE 2 years ago I've instinctively started doing it again and I have 600 hours. Also I only play the campaign on normal mode, I just like to relax with a podcast and boom 😅 Ranked games vs real people scare me and at this point I've completed every campaign scenario at least 3 times each. I really take my time with them too, each scenario takes me at least an hour. Often much longer lol I've only recently stopped walling in every area of my base as I play. I've always had an emotional attachment to the units I make and I try to keep as many alive as possible. If just one unit survives a fearsome battle I'll retire them to the back of my base with a little house and a wife villager who can work on a farm next to his mill. Watching these games I know I'll never play multiplayer since I won't have time for my little headcannon story arcs Oh and I never eat my animals, I collect them in a walled pen at the back of my base to keep them safe. I also try to rescue as many as possible from the ai to send back to my enclosure. I feel like if I ever did play multiplayer and stuck to my campaign playstyle T90 would flip shit lol

Yesterday i've spectated some games on my own, and found low elo nomad game, where blue players didn't put down town centre and just used on villager to build port and used him to gather shore fish, while other two became lumberjacks to build some fishing ships and put down town centre late and went straight away feudal after it was build, put second town centre asap and it happened to be next to red and in range of both town centres, then blue happened to get more vils than red on lumber and filled town centre and done better repairs (used one or two villagers almost all time while red was fixing town centre to max using all villagers after they were kicked out because of low health, while blue town centre kept hitting red's, so red run out of lumber and lost towncanter lol, tehn they were fighting using villagers, there was no military until 50 minutes, red built new town centre later, blue used villagers to raid red villagers (obviously purposefully) and build third town centre next ot red again in order to destroy it same way again, however blue build tower and won it, later red used his barracks to make some man at arms which pissed blue off and he started making military and crushed red xD So funny, i wish i knew how to save replays (if there is any way to do that as spect) XD

Dark Elf's playstyle reminds me of the game 0AD. It takes a lot of inspiration from Age 2 (I think it released before Age 2 had it's surge in popularity tho) Woman are berry pickers and farmers, while men can mine and build buildings. And because of that, low level military units can build certain buildings aswell.

I used to be the kind to skip the early stage because I'm used to Starcraft casters that don't have a personality, but after hearing your stories, I had to stop. Degenerate tales like the one at 5:20 always crack me up. Love you T90

Honestly, the female villagers would typically not be doing most villager tasks in the vast majority of these civilizations. Farming included. Simple reason of body strength.

Farming does not require even average body strength. My mother, my grandmother and most women before them spent up to 8 hours per day doing it, and they were all short and out of shape. We never used modern tools or machines, and until a couple of years ago we'd even cut grass with a schythe. And they did it as a hobby, while working in a factory during the week. Some specific tasks require strength, like pushing the plow, and typically when farming for a living women would lead the ox while the husband pushed. Everything else can be done by kids, nevermind women. It's all about endurance, and women have more since they spend less energy because of their different constitution. Women have always farmed in almost every single society. Also, rice is almost always farmed exclusively by women, expecially in Italy.

Thanks T90 for posting this. I really like DarkElf's city. I wanted to watch more replays from him, but I can't find the player anywhere. Did he change his name or something?
