I freaking love Groose. He may seem like a lot of talk at first, but he’s got skills to back it up (granted it appears later). He was able to analyze how Link’s fight with the Imprisoned went, and how he might be able to help in an area Link was lacking in. This shows he is tactically adept. He also built the solution himself, showing he is great at planning and construction. I’d like to also mention that the Groosinator (fantastic name by the way) moves along the tracks with the pull of a lever. Groose straight up made a makeshift engine for his catapult. The closest thing I can see to having an engine is Beedle’s Shop Ship, and his is pedal powered. Groose just had to pull a lever to move. Man’s a mechanical genius. He managed to cultivate massive Bomb Flowers, and safely nonetheless. This shows that Groose can be careful when he needs to, seeing as he isn’t a splatter of limbs across the sacred ground. On top of all this, though the most obvious, the man is *built*. From what we can see in the game, he is very large, has training equipment in his room (as well as a punching bag with Link’s face on it), and hurls large bird eggs at Link during the race with impressive accuracy considering the speed at which they are flying. He also catches Zelda as she falls right before the final fight, getting there in the knick of time, and ensures she lands somewhat safely. Something we don’t see but can justly assume is that he built his tracks by hand himself, no outside help. Those large planks of wood for supports? That was him. The rails for the tracks? Forged by him. Getting the Groosinator restocked for another round quickly? Groose again. TLDR: Groose is a machine in his own right, may not have some of the skills Link does, but he has a plethora of his own that he executes well.

one of the things i liked about groose was how he wasnt just some steriotypical, one dimensional bully character who existed soley to get the opoening tutorial started and then disappear for the rest of the game. he actually had his own impact on the story and character arc where he learned that the world doesnt revolve around him, but that doesnt mean he cant still do good

Great video! Loved how you called out Groose's reaction to Impa's passing. I've been wondering about Impa's cloak while replaying the game, and while watching this video it suddenly clicked: when Groose goes back in time, right after Impa thanks him, he starts talking about the old lady they left behind. You can see emotion flicker across Impa's face for a moment. She must have been moved by his concern for her older self-ages later, she's wearing that red cloak as a tribute to his hair!

Personally I believe that Groose does return to the surface after the game and gets very busy, starting a line that one day develops into the Gerudo, a people bearing his signature yellow eyes and red hair. The Groose does indeed get loose.

With all the connections people have been trying make between Skyward Sword and TotK, I kind of wish we got to learn a bit more about the Gerudo’s history during Riju’s quest, possibly giving some hints at the theory of Groose being one of their earliest ancestors.

Wonder how many other people noticed that Groose looks similar to the Gerudo and likely founded their Tribe. He shares their Red Hair and Ganondorf's Yellow Eyes. And the Country he wanted to Found "Grooseland" could easily morph into Gerudo over enough time, as Groose could evolve into Geruso, and then Gerudo. It's also worth noting that he and his friends head in the direction of the Lanryu desert which could be the foundations of the Gerudo desert. Would be awfully ironic that Demise's Curse extended to Groose's descendants to be the host for his reincarnation Ganondorf.

I think that's the case (I agree on everything but I'm talking more particularly about the curse) because the trait befitting Groose the most is strenth, not only physical but also how hard he works and persevere, so sadly since Demise couldn't reach Zelda or Link directly with his curse I think it fell upon Groose and his descendants.

Groose certainly knocked me for a loop on my first playthrough. First I rolled my eyes, "Really, we have a Gaston archetype?" Then he follows to the surface and I remember being a little angry at this dolt who's gonna fet himself killed. Then the Groosinator happened and all I could do was grin. To quote Goku to the gag character during the final battle of DBZ, "Way to go champ! You really are a hero!"

Don't you just hate it when that happens? Having someone so good and hardworking, ironically, be the progenitor of pure evil? Ganondorf is just so evil. Trust me. In Tears Of The Kingdom, he murders Queen Sonia, and he literally laughs at Zelda's grief over the loss of her new mother figure. He is simply incapable of being a good person, whereas Groose, his alleged ancestor, certainly has good in him. It's a tragedy that such a good character like Groose would unintentionally give rise to such a horrible person like Ganondorf..

@cradiculous , no, I did know that. I didn't know who Groose was, though, until I saw gamer Andrew Collette from The Andrew Collette Show's 100% Skyward Sword game. Heck, it's only thanks to Andrew and BanditGames that I know anything about the Zelda franchise, what with having never played a Nintendo game in my life. Trust me, I've been without a Nintendo my whole life, with only an Xbox. KZbin is the closest I've ever gotten to experiencing the games sadly enough. I might have to change that one day if I ever get a Nintendo..
