one of the best and also most underrated JRPG series ever, and that includes the Trails in the Sky games, the story telling and world building is superb, it's really something not a lot of games in general can nail, but Falcom does

XSeed really needs to port the Sky Trilogy and the first two Cold Steel games to modern consoles. This series requires that you play it in order and, without these first five games, there isn't a great starting point unfortunately

They are. The next mainline game, Kai no Kiseki -Farewell, O Zemuria-, is being described as the beginning of the climax of trails (though you probably got that from the title). It's also been heavily hinted that the next arc after calvard will be the last.
