I agree, there should be a film about him. It would show how beautiful all Wales is, we have our very own language, and owain glyndwr is the true Prince of Wales, no other. Given this title does not mean other is the Prince of Wales. To be able to learn and speak the language, and even hold a conversation would be an achievement. English can be spoken in most countries, but we will always keep our language. Da ni yma ohyd, ac yma y byddan ni hefyd , cawn ddim ein sathru! Dim peryg yn y byd

I love this. But it's such a shame that I was never taught anything about Owain throughout school, not even in Welsh lessons (Which were a complete joke and not taken seriously). It's embarrassing. Having spent a lot of time in London, and being asked about our culture and language and having nothing to respond with, I now take pride in independent learning of our language and history. I am determined to speak fluent Welsh and have a strong understanding of my heritage :) I'm only 21, so there's plenty of time...But I for one will be making sure my children learn both our language and history.
@ealing4568 жыл бұрын
As much as I approve of the Welsh assembly, they went about teaching Cymraeg in schools in totally the wrong way. I remember countless Welsh lessons where pupils would heckle the Welsh teachers with questions like: "But what good will Welsh have?". Welsh history not being taught sufficiently in schools is part of the problem. Lessons about Welsh culture should be more than just: 'We have an Eisteddfod, and we had the mines ... once, and now we have rugby.' I wasn't taught about Y Mabinogi ONCE in 10 years of public schooling. I think Owain Glyndwr got a passing mention in primary school, but the focus was solely on the English crown.
@MeAbroad20048 жыл бұрын
Aye. As a young child I was unaware just how important language is as a marker of identity. Being Welsh meant having St David´s day and supporting the team in - what was then - the 5 Nations. It was only as an adult and having travelled a fair bit this this identity (of being Welsh first, British 2nd) came to become part of who I am. I wish I had been made more aware as a child and how I wish I had paid more attention in Welsh class. I feel that its was not pushed as being important. As for learning history in junior or high school... Henry VII had a bit of Welsh blood in him.. his uncle Jasper was wholly Welsh... Henry VIII was born in Pembroke castle... and that was it... done
@genedoolie28776 жыл бұрын
well I can tell you why you just learn the 3 Hs Hitler-Holocaust-Henry the 8th. but you wont listen, or maybe you will because you are Welsh. History in school is just ticking boxes and installing white guilt, of course they would never tell you that are race (European) has been made into slaves more than any other race at one time, am sure school wouldn't dare tell you the truth about who we really are and where we come from. one sad thing too tell you about North/Mid wales, you can kiss it goodbye if what I think is going to happen, let me please ask you this: has there been many new supermarkets built in your town in say the last 3 years?
@SimulationEvolve6 жыл бұрын
History A levels were a joke, before I got to year 12 my teacher told us the importance of looking at both sides of an argument and judging the source material to look for bias etc then in comes my A level teacher who taught us about how good the suffragettes were not even questioning them i.e conveniently stopping their protest for equality when men were sent to die in the first world war the guy also laughed at a student for having right wing politics. I myself got extra Welsh classes in school I'm not sure why maybe because my Welsh is not correct because of treiglad meddal and all that in anycase in those lessons our teacher taught us about Welsh villages being flooded and the Welsh not etc. But as others say, a lot of kids don't see the point in Welsh a lot of the time its influence from English kids who say its a pointless language and it certainly doesn't help that English migrants have displaced natives and more recently the waves of Somalians and Arabic Migrants.. my village has some people who don't even speak Welsh or English!

***** Whether or not the man himself existed, the Welsh tribes cost the Romans a lot of blood. That much is well documented. So did other tribes in the fens and in Scotland; wherever the landscape gave them opportunities to ambush, guerrilla tactics were used. Any stories from that long ago are going to be scant in terms of real evidence, especially when it comes to heroic deeds and achievements.
