The Umbrasyl chase with Grog hanging by his chain and Keyleth as a giant eagle was so good on the campaign, everyone was just going ham screaming ideas and doing everything they could think of to not letting the dragon go, it was so good.

Raishan arrived in Whitestone with Vox Machina. She took the form of a little girl with big green eyes. I don't remember the specific dialogue but she had a brief interaction with Grog. Very easy to forget 11 episodes later.

On the topic of Scanlan “not believing” in the matron: in one of the campaign 1 talk shows, Taliesin said something like “you can’t have an atheist in DND because then you just have an idiot”. The idea being that atheism is hard to believe in a world where gods can literally smite their enemies through their followers and set obvious curses on those who insult them. I’d like to point to the Pathfinder: Kingmaker video game for a good example of “atheism” in a fantasy world. In that game, Valerie is atheistic, but it’s not that she doesn’t believe the gods exist. She instead chooses to put her faith in her allies in the party, since they are the ones on the ground making tough decisions and helping each other in battle. When Scanlan says “I don’t believe in that matron stuff, but you do, and I believe in you”, I personally see that as a similar sentiment. It’s like saying “you’re a good friend, so even if I disagree with your belief, I’ll still help you because I trust you”.
@Taizen001 Жыл бұрын
I was about to make this comment, but you remembered what Taliesin said better than me 😂 I think I remember him also saying something to the effect of "It's not that Percy doesn't believe the gods are real, he just doesn't like them."
@doctordee6321 Жыл бұрын
I feel like Taliesin is always flipping between amazing wisdom and amazingly botched attempts at wisdom. On one hand: “You’ve learned a valuable lesson, and that’s that sometimes there is no lesson and you just have to get up and try again tomorrow.” On the other hand: “Life needs things to live.”

There are ways dragons can take different forms. Some just have an inherent ability to polymorph into animals, humanoids, etc. Dragons can also cast magic and have spells. So a powerful enough dragon can use the polymorph spell and change into anything. So during the beginning of the season when they escaped to Whitestone there was a scene where a green eyed girl stared menacingly at Grog. That was the green dragon. So somehow she replaced Keeper Yenan (don’t know if she is dead) and that’s how it happened.

All of the vestiges do somewhat 'represent' a deity, the thing is that Vax made an extra side deal with the Matron of Ravens to save Vex's life. It isn't his wearing the armor that makes him her champion and has him answering to her and doing her work, it's that deal. She did somewhat stuff the armor on him, too, rather than letting rando members get it, but if Vex hadn't died and he hadn't made the deal, wearing the armor wouldn't 'mean' anything more than Grog wearing the Titanstone Knuckles (which I know have to do with the Storm Lord) or Vex wielding Fenthris. IIRC Scanlan's Mythcarver was connected to the Knowing Mistress which is also why her sphinx servant was guarding it.

16:28 Yes its not that hes denying the gods exist, just that he dosent subscribe to the destiny rules all mindset. Ironically he's more in the right than it appears, Scanlan was not fated to kill Umbrasyl and that is just something changed for the adaptation to suit the altered narrative. 20:42 In the show Vex has shot fire arrows since episode 1, as well as enchated explosive arrows, adding fire to the new bow was a bit excessive imo, since its the opposite of the whole trees and growth vibe it has. Fenthras had a little zappy power but theyve beefed it up into the full Lightning Arrow spell which animated Vex has been missing. 26:58 The issue with Scanlan here isnt so much him, but that no one around likes him. Shouldn't Scanlans goal also the same as Sams, to make his friends laugh? But this version of Vox dont have the same sense of humor as he does, they dont join in on the jokes, they dont even like his singing! Makes you wonder why hes even part of the group. 30:40 The audio was fixed early in the Briarwood arc, now that youve finished season 2 you can pick out any point in the first half of the Chroma Conclave arc to try out. The episode titles mostly match up to major events you've seen making it easy to navigate, from 39 "Omens" to 63 "The Echo Tree", past that is season 3 territory. 33:13 If you like Will his original episodes were 21 and 22 "Trial of the Take" parts 3 and 4, its a self contained mini arc meeting the Slayers Take so you can watch just them alone. But being earlier episodes theres those pesky audio issues. Their appearance in the season 2 is taken from episodes 43 "Return to Vasselheim" and 44 "The Sunken Tomb". They are much loved guests and are sure to feature again in the animated series. 36:08 Pretty sure it was confirmed that Brimscythe killed and replaced that actual Krieg. As for Raishan she followed the group from Emon as the strange green eyed girl, she was very interested in Vox when she recognised them as the ones who killed Brimscythe. And shapeshifters can control what they turn into: Keyleth is a red head so her eagle form is orange-brown by default but her tiger form is white just because white tigers are cool; Scanlans polymorph shapes are purple just for flair, he could look like a regular animal if trying to blend in.

On the Gods discussion, there's not really Atheists in D&D(depending on the world obvs) GENERALLY speaking folks know the gods exist, but whether they believe in their sway or give them deference? That's another matter entirely.

It is not a spoiler, In EP1 we see Keeper Yennen before the Tree opens. Unless Raichan can be at 2 places at once... that proofs that, at this point, she isnt hiding as Yennen.

This. Plus we also see Raishan as the little girl after they come through the tree, she's the strange kid Grog talks to, so we know where she is in that moment.

@@VegetaLF7 yeah but thats... I mean... not sure if that is some sort of spoiler since the show didnt mention it

Calamity is a great series but it is a lot more than 12 hours - more like 20 (I think the last episode was closer to 7 alone). But is an amazing series that is more story telling than dice rolling (though they do that as well.)

I am pretty sure what Scanlan meant is that he doesn't believe in *FATE*

I find it ironic that VAXILDAN would say there's no such thing as luck. Didn't he have the luck feat?
@VegetaLF7 Жыл бұрын
Yup, it's hilarious given how much he blatantly used it there but is against Luck in this show.

Have they decided what’s gonna replace this show?

Currently playing an “atheist” monk in the Critcal Role campaign setting at the moment. It’s not so much that he doesn’t believe gods exist - he’s had conversations with a few of them, and personally threatened Lloth last week - it’s that he doesn’t believe that they’re special. To him, gods are just the biggest, nastiest monsters in a world full of monsters….

I prefer season 1 only in that I love Percy, everything else was superior in this season except Scanlan, i just do not care for him. Cant wait till season 3.

I don't know if you are familiar with the source material but season 3 might change your mind with the Scan Man himself. We'll see next year.

I have a theory for why Raishan hates Thordak. Apologies if they talked about it already, I skimmed through their discussion and didn’t find if they did… Being the only Female dragon in the group, and now there being an army’s worth of dragon eggs, it’s safe to assume that he was forcibly breeding her.

Eric, you have clearly forgotten that there are Flat Earther’s on this planet. People that, contrary to ALL evidence, believe we live on a flat plane. Is it really so hard to believe that people wouldn’t believe in gods in a D&D world?
