Each character's lifespan actually is determined by their race, shortest to longest would be Goliath, Human, Half Elf, Gnome. This means that each race will have a different age of maturity so even if all the characters appears to be the same age they actually have quite some time between them. Grog would be the youngest and most short lived member and Pike and Scanlan as the oldest and most long lived (Unless certain other aspects come into play to expand other characters lifespans) So they dont specify this in the show so far but the Campaign of Vox Machina takes place in the years 809pd (Post-Divergence) - 812pd, with the characters all meeting each other in the year 809 and the campaign starting in 810. This means we can guess, because the players didnt specify, that Grog is between his late teens and his 50s, Pike is somewhere in 30s to early 40s, and Percy is somewhere in his early to mid 20s. The ones we actually know for sure are Keyleth who in 809pd would be 20, Scanlan would be 67, and the twins would be 26.

One thing a lot of people unfamiliar with D&D don't immediately get is that a cleric like Pike's powers literally do NOT come from within. Depending on DM they may not be able to cast spells if a holy symbol is broken or missing, but always it is a no-go if something interferes with their connection with their deity or they piss their deity off. You two seem to have understood better but I have seen a lot of people feel Pike just needed to 'try harder' when the issue may be a bit more complicated than can be sorted in a fight or even mid road trip with the crew.

From this point on, It Gets Worse™. ;) But in a really awesome way, and with bits of humor sprinkled in. Nice catch on the thing that appears above Percy’s shoulder in the intro. It is indeed a significant detail. :) Delilah is a wizard* and in this episode she is casting a spell from the necromancy school of magic. The Wraiths she calls up are a bit adjusted from the standard ones in the game, but they are indeed pretty scary opponents. I also agree with you that the animators really succeeded in making them genuinely terrifying. The black ichor dripping from people’s eyes, mouths and nose when attacked by them was how the animators choose to depict the necrotic damage** their attacks do. As we saw with some of the guards especially, their attacks also drain your life. As Vox Machina have higher HP/are more sturdy (that is, are higher level) than the guards, they can survive longer against the wraiths’ attacks. Sunlight and radiant damage are especially effective against most undead, which is why Keyleth’s Daylight spell not only illuminates the wraiths to make them tangible, it burns them too. But that also means loosing Pike is a significant loss, because her radiant buffs and damage spells would have been incredibly useful as it is very likely they are about to go up against more undead. *Wizards are the magic nerds of D&D, learning their spells by study of spellbooks and scrolls. There are 8 schools of magic and a wizard can technically learn spells from all of them, but often specializes in one or two schools. The school of Necromancy, the magic of death (and life, in a sense) is usually either heavily restricted or forbidden. Delilah was actually part of the highest order of wizards, closely tied to the government of the Dwendalian Empire on the continent of Wildemount, before she got exiled for practicing necromancy and went to Whitestone. **D&D has several different types of damage, and what types of damage an enemy (or player) is resistant, vulnerable or outright immune to can be very important for the outcome of a fight. We saw some of that in the last episode, where Percy shot Sylas, but his vampiric regeneration healed the wound back up, while wound cause by Grog’s axe when Pike buffed it with a blessing (causing it to do radiant damage) did not heal. And this episode the damage immunity unless certain conditions were met was on full display. :) A common thing for higher level monsters and/or spirits is to be resistant or immune to damage from non-magical weapons. Because of Reasons, Percy’s gun do count as a magical weapon.

Hexblade later have the ability where if they struck down a humanoid target they can rip their soul out and have a specter servant.
