Can we also talk about how the nuance of the different bending styles was completely shat on? Remember when Aang had a difficult time picking up Earthbending because it was his opposite element? Because his entire life he was used to being light on his feet and going with the flow while earthbending required you to plant yourself in the ground and be unmovable? Remember how each bending style was specifically crafted from a martial arts type that suited that element and the fights clearly showed that with the characters' every move? Remember how bending was originally learned by naturally occurring manipulators of those elements like the moon with the tides and benders' motions mimicked those natural occurrences? Well fuck that noise. When Korra gets handed her airbending after refusing to learn any of the essential tennets of airbending she basically air boxes. Her first time airbending was with a punch. A. PUNCH. The type of forceful aggression that is the EXACT opposite of the martial arts style that inspired the airbending animation of the first series as well as its philosophical tenets. Like, isn't the avatar supposed to be a bridge between the elements? Aren't they supposed to understand each elements' fundamental essence, strengths, and weaknesses? Nah. Let's just punch some air. It looks cool I guess.

Lets not forget that she as a water bender should have a super hard time learning fire bending but lol she’s the avatar deal with it she could fire bend at 4.... also who needs a supporting team of amazing benders who know how to teach to teach you when you can just do what ever the fuck you want and still learn it all. This is the equivalent of Aang coming out of the iceberg a master of 3 elements needing to learn just one element and just magically learning that element by himself at some random ass point.

While I do agree with you, I also want to point out that it is absolutely intentional that Korra is an asshole in the beginning. TLOK is not about a human becoming the Avatar (like ATLA), but about the Avatar becoming human. She struggles heavily with empathy for others and the spiritual side of bending. And that is exactly the point. Her growth does not become visible in learning the elements and overcoming the struggle of the feelings of guilt for being gone for 100 years while a genocide on your entire culture has taken place. Korra's growth becomes visible in the growth of her as a human and overcoming her arrogant, overly confident ego, PTSD, and the loss of her identity as the Avatar. I can understand why many people hate Korra, when they have expected a likable character like Aang or a story arch like the one in ATLA. There are lots of flaws, both in ATLA and in TLOK. But when one accepts that there has been a change between the time in ATLA and the time in TLOK and watches with an open mind, one can learn a lot from TLOK.

@A Human Being I'm talking about Mako. (Edited because I know what's coming) The point being made here is that Korra forced herself on Mako, someone who already had a girlfriend and someone who already rejected her ass. You tried to compare it to Aang doing the same with Katara once, but like It was already explained to you, 1) Aang gets inmediate repercussions for his actions and 2) Katara wasn't in the same situation as Mako, she wasn't in a relationship with someone else, and instead made clear that she had interest in being with Aang, just that like she explained, she didn't think It was the right time to have a proper relationship with all the stuff going on. In short: Korra is a fucking asshole. Also Atla had 3 books, not 4 LOL.

After her bending was taken away I thought "Oh, this makes sense, she loses her bending and has to relearn it but only if she learns the spiritual side as well. She'll have to learn it from bending masters." And then the show just solves her spiritual problem with Aang showing up. Making "strong" female characters by showing how "strong" and "independent" they are by being an insufferable, selfish and egotistical asshole. I'm a woman, I'm tired of female leads being written time and time and time again like Korra. There are so many examples in Hollywood and more. Idk why it comes to female leads, they make them all the same, but they can make diverse, wonderfully complex and endearing female side characters like Katara, Suki, Toph etc I'm tired of writers clinging to writing female leads to be exactly like Korra, there's so many of them! Because God forbid women are written as diverse and complex human beings like they are irl or male leads. Idk if they're terrified of offending someone if they don't write women as irredeemable god mods or if they think women only like "strang independent wohman who need no man and can kiss and hurt many men and other wahman! Because strong wahman!" And then when I call Korra an insufferable asshole because of the way she behaves with Mako and Bolin etc I get called a sexist... Men shouldn't be hurt like that, it's horrible. Korra is a horrible person. Her treating men horribly does not equate her to being this strong independent person that we should all love. It makes her selfish, cruel and horrible, no one should look up to her. I just.... I'm just tired, man. I'm a girl, gimme diverse and complex female character leads because we're humans too who come in all kinds of varieties. And a lot of us don't want men to be treated like trash because they're also human beings. Many of us love and respect men, that does not make us weak, we see them as human beings who can hurt too. They don't deserve to be treated like trash. I'm just so sad and done with these types of shows. It's more of a disservice to women than it does "uplift" and "empower" them like so many like to say. I'm sorry for the rant.

Richella River Exactly, I’m so tired of that characterisation of a “ Strowng independent whamen “ because even though they’re trying to make women feel empowered it just makes me feel embarrassed that this is the rubbish we are getting.And because of that now every movie with a female lead is already labelled “ toxic feminist movie “ even if the lead isnt really a femenazi.Im sad too that for female characters they don’t give a shit about her emotions, her life or anything that makes a good character and focuses on their gender specifically.And every single time they have to degrade men just to prove that this female lead is a “ badass girl who don’t need no man and can do whatever da fuck she wants ta do “ and it makes me want to break my TV.I feel like to make a good female character is to make a character give it its backstory, life, attitude or whatever then make it female.Its just that they prioritise the fact that they are female over everything else that makes the character fail completely. The desire for a character (male or female) to be “independent” should be taken lightly. That’s what the other characters are for. I don’t remember Aang, Walter White, Michael Corleone, Luke, Frodo, Okabe, Shiroe, Dorothy, Rocky, Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Woody, Po, or The Bride achieving their stories without the assistance of the characters around them. Everyone needs help. Nobody has ever achieved anything without others contributing to their success. The misconception that COMPLETE independence makes you stronger is flat-out false and self-destructive. Admitting when you can’t do something yourself and that you need help shows even greater strength, as well as humility and gratitude.

I recall back when the series was airing there was a theory going around that I thought would have really saved the show. Basically people got really caught up on that little air-push-like thing he does in that snowy area where Korra was escaping from him, where he pushes the smoke. Some speculated that he was secretly an airbender. The thought was, maybe something went wrong with Aang's death, something the writers were keeping secret until a big reveal, that split the Avatar's reincarnation. Korra was half an Avatar, receiving the elements of Fire, Water and Earth, while Amon was the other half, and received the element of Air, as well as a connection to the Spirit Realm and the ability to permanently deactivate bending as Aang did in the previous series. The theory was especially interesting because it would have fit the theme so well, Korra being the Good part of the Avatar and Amon being Evil. With Avatar's eastern theme, a Yin and Yang relationship would have made sense. When that Theory eventually fell apart, the truth of Amon just felt bland by comparison. It was utterly uninspired and left me more disappointed than surprised. It was everything I expected, and nothing I hoped for.
@esemicolonr
@esemicolonr 8 жыл бұрын
The more I think about it, the more I can accept there's some credence to this theory. It's awfully arbitrary to just split the Avatar into two, but it fits with the story being told. I personally wouldn't be for it because it'd play too heavily into Whorra's characters flaws, such as her not growing as a person, but since Bryke had no intention of having her learn airbending properly or fostering a connection with the Spirit World, Amon could've easily been that missing half of her. Yin-yang parallels are always welcome, too. I guess I'd've much preferred this than what we were left with. It's a damn shame.

Would have been better than the Dark Avatar plot in Season 2. But honestly, I think the whole Ying yang thing is something that should avoided. The idea is that in all good, there is some evil, and inall evil, there is still some good, and both are in equilibrium. How do you reconcile that with the requirement of having the good guys win over the bad ones in the end ? If you're like Korra or other western stories that tried to tackle this, you don't. Good guy win, balance means that good prevails and evil is sealed. Just end up taking a huge shit on the whole concept.

Can I just say how angry I was when Korra broke the airbending relic and then called Tenzin a terrible teacher? Like his family was literally all that remained of the air tribe, and like E;R said, that was probably one of the few connections he had left to his culture. Which brings up another one of my issues: all the cultural notations from the original were watered down in favor or a 1920’s-1930’s New York setting? The fact that they have all that technology and that so much that the original cast struggled with, they seemed to get down without much struggle kind of just makes me sad. I also want to throw in how upset I am about random airbenders just popping up. Like, it makes the 100 year war feel downplayed because one of the largest scars left behind by the fire nation was the wiping out of the airbenders... and it was just patched over like nothing! I don’t know, maybe, just maybe, it would’ve been a good idea to show just how awful the aftermath of war is as the (race, tribe, whatever) takes several years, decades, centuries, before they’re finally repopulated? I’m sorry, this is my opinion, I haven’t even spoken about how much I hate Korra as a character and it’s already this long, so I’m just going to leave it at this.

Reason why ATLA is better the TLOK is because it was all planned. Everything. 3 seasons was all. Also the forced identity politics. Asami should have been evil, killing her father to destroy the benders. Korra shouldn't have gotten her bending back and instead she should have been forced to re-learn it. At the basics and the entire season 2 should have been about her journey. and most importantly, THE AVATAR CYCLE SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN SEVERED AND RESTARTED.

How about we talk about how not only did she somehow get her airbending like a deus ex machina, but she manages to use it WITHOUT the form. She's just punching and kicking like it was fire bending but air is flowing instead? It was long established that the bending arts were a martial art as well, based on real life martial arts even and it was a mix of genetic predisposition and that martial art that caused the elements to bend. In the original series every bending style had it's own unique motions. Fire bending was based in a shaolin form of kung fu which was an aggressive form involving many sweeping kicks and punches to overpower the opponent, while Air Bending was based on baguazhang which was more about movement, circling around an enemy and using their own strength against them. It was so integral that it shaped the various cultures so that not only did they bend elements with a martial art that reflects that element, but their societies and cultural outlooks reflected the elements as well. Iroh took this knowledge and used it to develop a firebending technique based on the concepts of waterbending. He's not outright using waterbending to redirect the lightning, only using it as an inspiration. Waterbending, though based in Tai Chi which is more an exercise than a combative martial art, is still about flowing with energy. Waterbenders especially when we see them fight are most adept at taking an attack and redirecting the energy back. When they fight each other they are always grabbing the water thrown at them and turning it back at the other (sometimes even doing it to weapons swung or thrown at them) which is not what we see in the other styles who are about either dissipating, blocking or dodging the attack. So Iroh invented a technique that borrows from the philosophy and tactics of another style but did not just do some water bending move and threw lightning back. In fact every time we see this move done, it's still in the pose and form of lightning bending itself, however instead of creating the energy, you absorb what was thrown at you and cast it back. But here? Now? There's no point in learning it as a martial art. Apparently now so long as you have the genetic pre-disposition to bend an element, you can do any kind of punch attack what ever and it'll make that element move or come out because fuck you. You don't have to evolve your outlook on how one can bend an element while still using the same martial art, you just have to punch the air and something will happen. Now you can do the motions of fire bending and BAM you can airbend. Why stop there. Let's throw out the sudden, deliberate motions of earthbending to move that rock. All Aang had to do was whirl his hands around like he was going to do the Air Scooter and he'd have moved that rock in an instant, proving Toph was wrong and that he, the Avatar, was right about his outlook on not needing to go head on.
@sportagus3
@sportagus3 4 жыл бұрын
If Iroh can use a waterbending motion to develop a firebending technique, then why wouldn't you expect 70 years later in a world where all nations mix with each other that the benders would start sharing techniques. Martial artists do that in the real world, they combine their knowledge. Not only that, it's basic airbending. If you look at Tenzin and Zaheer in combat, you can see how unique their fighting forms are compared to say Kya, Ming Hua, and Ghazan. Even Bolin has moments where you can see the traditional influence in his bending.
@yanagi4573
@yanagi4573 4 жыл бұрын
@@sportagus3 Ok but the thing is, there are certain things about bending as a martial art that can't be half assed. That includes the philosophy/mindset needed to bend an element, as seen when Aang couldn't earthbend because he wasn't being sturdy like a rock. At the beggining of the first book in lok, we get all of this talk about how to be able to airbend, you need to be gentle, meditate, and to be able to move freely like the wind. When Korra magically airbends for no good reason (we are not going to get into that plot hole), she does it by punching the air. Is not a form, is not the right mindset, is nothing. Is just a desperate punch and she can magically airbend. THAT is what is the issue here. It would have been fine If she actually learned something from Tenzin like she was meant to do, but uhh we never get any of that so the show hands her airbending just because.

Here is a martial arts reference demo during the development of the show. This (and many other martial arts displays) are what the animators used for reference when drawing the fights to properly showcase the physical movements of each martial art form. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaSqcoiggspqj6c Here's another look at what went into the animation of both shows. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4fGeYprZdOHi80 And here's a compilation of fight scenes from LOK - gee, there's a lot of martial arts going on for a show that just uses boxing... kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmWYhYuhobmlhM0 I also have to add three things along the same vein: 1.) Avatar:The Last Air-bender established that the forms aren't entirely necessary to bend the respective elements. Ozai breathed fire and spouted it directly from his palms like a flamethrower. Katara cracked ice with her voice. Toph OFTEN Earth-bended with nothing more than a stomp of her foot. 2.) A:TLA also established that tenets from the other elements' respective martial art forms can be applied to any bending form. Iroh taught Zuko how to redirect the flow of lightning with Water-bending techniques. 3.) A:TLA also established that new variations and applications of bending are discovered every day (hyperbole). Toph discovered Metal-bending by feeling the bits of rock - the impurities, as she called it - in the metal (although that's a bit redundant as metal itself is fundamentally still rock, or "Earth" as they put it). That swamp witch (I forgot her name) developed Blood-bending. Additionally, The Legend of Korra - AND The Last Airbender, to a lesser extent - used what's known as "Tricking", which embellished the fighting styles a bit more and was mostly used for evasive maneuvers. Here are some examples. kzbin.info/www/bejne/noHUiYtrZtmKbbs Honestly, the whole "Legend of Korra just uses boxing" complaint is complete bullshit lmao

IDK why all of a sudden this is an issue with the fandom, when Aang did it _years_ before The Legend of Korra was made. So, basically, all of these claims made by E;R and other Korra-haters that her Airbending with punches (even though she ALSO Airbends with Baguazhang) somehow invalidates it or makes it a mockery of the martial arts and use that as the crux of their argument for "why Korra sucks", are completely bogus - OR they ought to apply that same, nitpicky criticism to Aang: more so, as he did it first lol

The way they portrayed both ruins both their lore and mystique and and the same time makes them as weak as any regular bending for some reason.

Can we also talk about how when korra airbends for the first time, it’s when she PUNCHES with 0 grace or style. Not only is it a PUNCH, a movement we have never seen associated with air bending because air bending, like water bending, is supposed to be more about flowing energy, rather than bending while striking like earth and fire bending, BUT EVEN THE PUNCH ITSELF HAD NO GRACE OR FLUIDITY TO IT WHATSOEVER. Ya know, something that air bending has been shown to time and time again, require? It was literally a “protagonist unlocks new power at the time of tension anime punch” kind of punch. THIS IS SOME DRAGON BALL SHIT, BUT EVEN THEN, THE SAYIANS NEEDED ACTUAL EMOTIONAL OR PHYSICAL DISTRESS. Like Goku’s best friend dying right in front of his eyes. Not “oh no my crush is bout to lose his bending, better call upon the ex machina gods to help me save him”.

In the entire ATLA series we see almost only Aang airbending... And we see Kyoshi airbending the Kyoshi islands away and while she did it she had the same grace and fluidity that korra had in her first punch so I guess people that aren’t born airbenders can use different styles too. (Just like Kuvira bends earth and metal with a different style than most earthbenders we have seen in the series)

Korra apologized and took full blame for blowing up at Tenzin _by the end of the episode_ - E;R conveniently left out the resolution and context to every "issue", just so he could paint the picture of Korra being bad for no reason. And, in THE VERY NEXT EPISODE, Korra is shown training and learning the proper ways to Airbend; in fact, she's shown training day and night in almost every episode of Book 1. Jacob Sullivan She was a villain, ok with and participating in the rape and conquest of entire races of people and civilizations with little remorse. Also, the fact that she befriended Suki is all you need to know to make it all fit. Suki learned chi blocking, and from her the Keyoshi warriors became chiblockers. Later on in life, when we see Saka as an important governing figure in republic city, she has presumably moved to the city with him. Being that chi blocking is depicted as having been deseminated within self defense classes marketed towards non-benders, it makes sense that the trend start with some entrepreneurship on the part of Saka and Suki. There. Solved.

Jakugen She wasn't a villain, she was an underling. Forced to work for azula in order to protect others around her because she knows that azula was coocoo for coco puffs. When we first saw Ty Lee she had run away to a circus to escape all the bullcrap of the work and azula, but she figured that azula would continuously try to ruin her life and the lives of those around her unless she joined, which she did reluctantly in her own chipper optimist manor. If she was cool with all that rape and conquest then she wouldn't have turned on her when she was about to kill mei. It's like saying the Czech people forcefully recruited by the nazis in WWII were evil. I wouldn't say she befriended suki, more like she forcefully pushed her way into their ranks, and considering the fact that suki's fighting style is perfectly serviceable against benders, there's no reason she'd learn chi blocking. Just sounds like making lame excuses for bullcrap bad writing.

Another thing about Korra suddenly getting airbending that IMMEDIATELY set me off the moment I saw it was the fact that she didn't actually know how to airbend. She used a few techniques sometimes and probably recalled some of her teachings, but at no point did she actually figure out how to airbend. In TLA Aang could only bend things he hadn't properly learned to bend after going into the Avatar State. Korra didn't do this. To actually consciously use the other elements, Aang had to put in HARD WORK, something Korra has NEVER done for bending. And yet here we are, now she can airbend because she unlocked it through the power of love. I mean, it was just a simple punch, which doesn't at all mesh with the smooth, flowing technique of airbending. I'm glad they took a shit all over their interesting martial arts themes and philosophies that they established this universe operated on in TLA just so that they could have an incredible ass-pull to get themselves out of the corner they had been written into.
@TheSamuraiGoomba
@TheSamuraiGoomba 7 жыл бұрын
It's because they had to asspull a shitty villain with bloodbending powers that didn't fucking exist in TLA, so they needed an even more OP asspull to get themselves back out. Otherwise the story might have become interesting. My first, most obvious response to "Korra is about to lose all her bending" was "Ok cool, so what about some episodes where she can't bend at all? Sort of like when Aang lost his flying mount."
@1234321xx1
@1234321xx1 7 жыл бұрын
They took away all of the martial arts from bending. All of them just do boxing now, which would be interesting for just one character, not all, and much less the avatar herself. Bolin is so weak because his fighting style completely contradicts earthbending.
@OckhamAsylum
@OckhamAsylum 7 жыл бұрын
+TheSamuraiGoomba I actually would have loved to see something like that. There's a lot of potential for character development there, especially for such an arrogant and overly confident character like Korra. It's unquestionably an idea that is leagues above the Avatar State cop-out that they gave us. +Joaquin Fidalgo I was annoyed by that too, they just turned everything into 1920s pugilism in terms of fighting styles. The different styles of bending are practically part of the foundation of the universe, with the martial arts reflecting the division of the world's peoples, cultures, attitudes, and the crucial need for these differences (the balance). Instead, the writers decided that they had an itch, a massive raging hard-on for the 20s that just HAD to be satisfied, so they chucked one of the fundamental aspects of the universe that made it so interesting out the window and said "NOW IT'S TIME FOR REALLY FORCED BOXING MATCHES WITH HAMMY RADIO ANNOUNCERS! DON'T LIKE IT?! WELL *YOU GOTTA DEAL WITH IT!"*
@TheSamuraiGoomba
@TheSamuraiGoomba 7 жыл бұрын
It's the most obvious move, too. Oh, there's a super evil guy that can remove bending powers? Okay, so they succeed and now our hero has to figure out how to live and accomplish their goals without bending. Suddenly they're exposed to the world as a non-bender and they've lost their safety net and identity. And obviously, at some point they'd get bending back because this is a kid's show and not a greek tragedy, but still. It's the most obvious of obvious character development. Any group of writers should immediately see it.

Even ignoring the need for a full moon, it makes sense that blood-bending would've died with Hama since it's reasonable to assume that Katara wouldn't have taught it to anyone else. Korra's ability to airbend wasn't exactly an asspull. It kinda was but not in the regular way. She had an actual reason (Sort of) To airbend in that moment. Since airbending isn't about force but letting it come naturally hence why it's god damn air. Air is natural and can't be forced and Korra spent most of her time trying to force and find shortcuts to learn airbending and when she needed to she used instinct instead of force and was able to airbend. Hell Uncle Bumi did the exact same thing in book 3. It was an instinctive action that then allowed him to airbend. Yet I don't see anyone complaining about him. Both shows have greats and flaws but the thing is. They're 2 completely different shows with different messages and meanings. Attacking LoK for the most minor things either because you A. Are too much of a fan of ATLA and find issues with every little because it's not ATLA. Or B. You're bandwagoning and just using the same reasons people hate LoK despite not having any legitimate reason to

Aang and Katara madly respected each other, and that's why their relationship hit all the right notes. They built up a level of trust and commitment that only each other shared. You know they might actually have... Loved each other... Yeah, I know, an impossible fantasy... But what else are these lies we call stories for anyway?" @@Les____ while I don't hava a lot of in-sight to Kollin ship (in my country Nextlit still don't have LoK) I would say that a it was such a waste the potential of "brawl girl x more-soft boy", especially for the year, where there wasn't a lot of characters like Bolin that wasn't just for comedy, they just take the easy path of "default badboy and brawl girl" for S1. What if Bolin started a arc of him becoming more mature after seeing the girl he liked kissing his bro? Just imagine, your parents died at a young age and the main people that was looking out for you was your big brother, who you belive is the greatest person in the planet and your hero. You meet this girl and have an instant crush of her (why? Idk because love at first sight is a common/ cute trope that can be used in a good way i assume) so you try the classic tip you always hear: "Be yourself". Bolin is himself with Korra, and he thinks he is conquering her heart after their date, only to see later his crush and brother, the person he most admires, kissing. He is devastated, but instead of the "ugly crying guy" (because is soooo progresive having a brawling independent girl at the same time that you joke about a guy having his fellings crushed and expressing it) you don't do the ugly cry, you make him run away, away from his crush, and away from his brother, just crying because the only happiness and good relationship he had outside his bro was (what you could assume in his place) a lie/trick. You could use this opportunity to make him start maturing, make himself questioning if acting like his brother would make him get the chick, asking why his brother knowing his fellings would allow the kiss to happen and start to drift away for him (until the critical moment OC), or why he even likes Korra in the first place, because she is tough and brave and confident unlike him? There was so much potential in Bolin for start and arc like this, but we needed a member in the main cast to give us the jokes. (Sorry for the long comment)

In Korra s2 we actually get to see the era before the Avatar and what did people bend? ELEMENTS. And WHY would such godly and ascended spiritual beings as Lion Turtles take a side in the man VS spirits conflict. God, it baffles me how the same people who wrote the greatness that is The Last Airbender could write something as inconsistent as Legend of Korra.

Alex Austin They weren't open. Korra was trying to firebend at Amon, but the chi could only escape through her virginal air pathways.
@nocktukdaze8256
@nocktukdaze8256 7 жыл бұрын
Jakugen But you would think he would've missed one. And even then your argument falls short because Amon blocked Korra's 3 alleged chi paths in the same amount of time as he did basically everybody else's one. If each chi path was seperate like you're claiming, Amon would've taken three times the amount of time it took toake everybody else's bending. Did he switch immediately after he blocked one path to the next? How though? If he can do that right then and there, why didn't he figure out about Korra's supposed fourth chi path right then and there? And if it takes Amon a few seconds to block three separate chi paths, then everyone should've had their bending removed almost immediately after Amon made contact. But that's besides the point, the point is Amon took as much time to block three supposedly different chi paths as it took to block one. That implies Korra's ability to bend all come from the same exact chi path. Meaning it would mean fuck all if Korra's airbending was blocked, since it had the same chi path as the other elements, she shouldn't be able to airbend whatsoever.
@Jakugen0
@Jakugen0 7 жыл бұрын
Amon merely dams up all of the flowing arteries of chi. I doubt he is able to tell which are for which element, just that there are more to close in the avatar. Korra doesn't attempt air bending when she first air bends. She looks like she is trying to fire bend and the chi forces its way out through the formerly closed air pathways which at least were not sealed. Excess chi from being the avatar means it is all forced out though one pathway instead of four. Korra is a fraud and never would have learned air bending if it weren't for Amon.
@nocktukdaze8256
@nocktukdaze8256 7 жыл бұрын
Jakugen Again, if chi is all one path for Korra, then she shouldn't be able to bend whatsoever. And you know this how? So if it's all seperate chi paths, then let's back track on how the fuck did Amon not know he missed one? If he could detect three different chi pathways, why didn't he know he missed a fourth one? If it's all of Korra's chi is down one pathway and four then how the actual fuck can she airbend if Amon blocked that chi path? If Korra's water, earth, fire, and airbending have the same exact chi path, then Korra shouldn't be able to airbend at all because that path was closed! Except how could she airbend if her chi was blocked? You're making no sense.
@Jakugen0
@Jakugen0 7 жыл бұрын
The answer is literally told to you in the above video from the people who wrote it. Amon has no way of knowing how many chi paths a person should or should not have. He just knows how to detect flowing chi paths and how to dam them up. Korra didn't have functional air pathways. Still, they existed and were not sealed in the same way that Amon seals the others. There is a seal that the body overcomes when it acquires the bending type. The writers say that when all of the functioning paths were detected and cut off, the excess pressure of chi which would have been flowing through three outlets is directed towards the virginal air pathways. When Korra attempts fire-bending, the chi is forced through the air pathway and she achieves air bending without an air bending technique being used. There is no reason to assume that Amon knows what chi pathways do what, or how the chi pathway structure of a three element avatar would look like as opposed to a four element avatar. To him it just looks like a person with a shit load of extra chi arteries and an expanded chi capacity.

You don't start a character off flawless; you start them off as a fraction of or in direct opposition to who they will become over the course of the story. Tony Stark didn't start off very likeable - he was a selfish playboy who sold W.M.D.'s to the highest bidder. But he was humbled and learned from his mistakes, slowly molding himself and allowing himself to be molded into the loving, protective, reliable hero we all know as Iron Man. The same goes for Korra. Let me just add that korra learned airbending when most convinient, not based on the basics like avoiding and flowing like a leaf or some bullshit but just to attack which is the opposite value of the bending type. nice deus ex machina there Edit: also Korra couldn't learn airbending mostly because she didn't have a spiritual connection. Lack of a connection apart from the bukakke on the statue island ofcourse

The two that I remember were when he found out that his air temple and everyone he knew was dead and when he found out Appa was kidnapped and sold off by the sand benders. Anything is better than these shitty OP bloodbender asspulls that don't even follow TLA moon logic for their powers. It is pretty simple. Energy bending required the person to make physical contact with the main chi paths in the body so that one's own energy would be able to flow through the victim's body. A blood bending god still needs to feel these pathways to close them. Just like the seismic vision that some earth benders can pull off, it requires contact. Anyways, Amon placing his hands onto the victim allows him to feel and pinch off each of the pathways that are expanded with use. This does not remove the chi in the body, but prevents it from exiting. In the case of Korra, it still had one very anemic and narrow path to escape through. She didn't actually learn to Airbend the right way, it's just that there was so much pressure it didn't matter. It looked like she was trying to firebend, but air came out instead. After she fixed her other pathways, the forced expansion of he air bending paths enabled her to keep using it even if she never really learned the psychological dicipline needed to open them under normal circumstances. I agree with pretty much all the criticism in these videos. This evidently isn't a great story detail if so many people aren't able to properly process what happened. I am only commenting to point out that there is an explanation for this particular plot point.
