TLG was not reviewed by Damiani. That is why I'm giving props to him specifically, not to EZA as a whole. Though it is a good sign that there is no committee voting for the ratings, so we can get more out of the reviews because we can pinpoint the reviewer.

You also have to ask the question as to whether a technical problem detracted from the game. Here it sounds like it absolutely did - freezing the game hard in some sections. The reviewer for TLG (Bloodworth) said explicitly he did not experience any major bugs like that. Doesn't mean they don't exist, but you have to review on what you experience.

They really emphasised many times in the review that there are frame rate issues but they didn’t lie when they say it did not hinder the game from being amazing. The issues are minimal after updates too so 10/10 would recommend imo.

The lowest increment is half a star, those frame drops they showed really stopped it from being a 5/5 so the score is justified imo. I don't think it's only a framerate. Having only 4 rather lackluster dungeons is certainly a big enough reason for me to give it a 4 or 4.5. I love Zelda dungeons, they are my faivorite part of the series.

Framerate and loading times are improved alot by the patches they did overtime. I just started playing it again after I finished it nearly three years ago now with all the dlc included. I still notice slowdowns and fear for the infamous "master sword area" but some areas are definitely improved. And the game is still as wonderful to play as it was those three years ago.

CannibalGames No. The point is, the score doesn't matter as much as the reasoning behind it. It's easier to understand the inconsistency when you consider each review isn't done by the same person. We know the reason for it, so why is it some surprise whenever it happens? A lack of concrete standards for scoring isn't an uncommon thing to see in games media, but ultimately that's because the number is arbitrary. You can't quantify the quality or appeal of a game, and a review is partially an opinion piece. Do you not agree with that?

suplextrain there is not "unplayable levels" and everyone else said the dungeons are amazing. And fps drops are not that big of a factor. Fps drops happen in all kinds of games, most noteably, dark souls 1. Which is widely considered one of the best games ever as well.

Just want to note that I've put literally hundreds of hours into the Wii U version of the game, and while it does very occasionally slow down a bit, I've never seen it stutter like the docked switch examples he was showing. Maybe switch version is in a higher res than the Wii U version, dun know. Still, even the stuttering shown doesn't bring the game down in any meaningful way. It's still a masterpiece.

4.5/5 is correct and I thank Damiani for not letting the flaws slide entirely. The game is a masterpiece but it could have been even better, as hard as that is to imagine. Just think though, if it had more enemies, if the 4 dungeons were more expansive and challenging, if the story was more fleshed out, if the final battle was tougher. Let's be real, by the end you're a god of destruction in a heroic garb. Especially if you spent most of your time exploring and finding/upgrading all the best gear and all the shrines and maxed out stamina and hearts. Finally, if it had silky smooth 30fps at all times? I dare not imagine a 60fps without dips.

Personally have never enjoyed a 5 star reviewing system because it isn't as nuanced as a 10 point scale. 4.5 stars out of 5 sounds absolutely terrible for a near "masterclass" or "essential" game that has been getting 10 out of 10 from multiple reviewers across many sites. I don't feel anyone would complain if the game scored 9.5 to 9.8 out of 10 but because the extrapolation of 4.5 out of 5 is the equivalent of a 9 out of 10, people are flipping out because the game to most people is almost certainly a 9.5 out of 10 minimum.

At last.......At last Easy Allies does something good! They don't fail to mention the lesser things in this game! In the Final Fantasy game there was soo many annoying and average stuff that held the game down from being great. But Easy Allies ignored that when it came to the final verdict. Now they don't and that's refreshing.... A game which has serious graphics issues can never get a perfect score and I hope all the NIntendarts and Zelda wankers understand that!!

This is - without a doubt - the most reasoned review that I have seen/read. I'm so glad it doesn't fall into fanfare trappings that so many people have come to. If Nintendo reads one review, I want it to be this one, because it dares to tell them that they did a great job, but there is more to be done. So many reviewers have forgotten that they are a part of a game companies cycle. They are there to help them. When someone says this game which has almost entirely mirrored its previous franchise's puzzles is "dripping with innovation", they do that company a disservice. We want more/better puzzles; not iterations of previous ones. Great job Damiani, and great job Allies. You continue to prove why I follow everything you do whole heartedly.

But they still put all these reviews out as Easy Allies. It doesn't matter that different people reviewed the game - they're all under the same name. They should really try to find a new way to streamline reviews because of that fact. Maybe they should all vote on it or something. At the end of the day, it doesn't make sense that TLG got a higher score than BOTW when the same issues were cited in the reviews.

Witcher 3 was built for the PC and had a subpar port to consoles. This is the flagship title for a new console, and is exclusive to one company.

I wish Easy Allies did collective reviews. Be great to hear everyone's perspectives but I am sure we will soon :) Great review nonetheless. Damiani's writing is soooo good especially with Brandon's voice/editing! Other reviews say the framerate isn't noticeable so I will have to check it out for myself, either way excellent review and I am stoked by how many 10/10's this game is getting! 4.5 is an amazing score too :)

Those 'framerate issues' don't actually look like framerate issues of that's the examples of framerate issues. The ones where you were running through the forest sure, obvious drops, but those when hitting enemies, something else is going on there. Maybe an autosave/load issue, or streaming(thegame has to constantly stream since there is no obvious area loading)? Is this issue still present when undocked? Because in the review you said that was a problem when docked, but never said anything about undocked.

It's only because Zelda outclasses other open world games of the same size by so much that it gets knocked for graphics. The level of polish is so beyond games like Skyrim that it gets put into a new league with games like Uncharted, where it can't possibly perform as well. In the Skyrim league, flaws are forgivable because it's traded off for a massive open world. Zelda fixed those flaws to a large extent, too much in fact, because it changed people's reference point and invited complaints about graphical inadequacies. But it's still an open world game, the size of any Bethesda game, and should be treated with the same amnesty.

Exactlyyyyyyyyyy right. But we really are starting to see Bethesda get left in the dust now. Lots of great looking open world games now. Horizon and Zelda within a week really humiliate Bethesda honestly. If frame drops mean losing half a point, no Bethesda game should ever score above an 8 if it's perfect in every other area. I think the map size in this is massively bigger than Horizon though.
