So essentially the negatives are, you have too much stuff, and the inventory is huge. And you need to manage your inventory. But literally everything else is great. I think this game deserves a fair 10/10!
@Grougal7 жыл бұрын
Not quite. Apparently characters were simple too, often only re-hashing things you already knew with different words, which made me a little sad. The moment Andre said that villagers had their own schedule I was reminded of XC, and thought they'd all have some amount of character to them but apparently not. Also, lacking story, meh voice acting overall (English version of course), no sense of dread, cool moments are "fleeting", and, like you said, inventory management is bothersome because it happens to be very frequent. Sounds like the only thing BotW really excels in is its world interaction, and the rest is kinda meh, which is fine. But from the sound of it there are quite a few things that could have been done better.

That actually does explain this game's earlier development cycle, because believe it or not, this game was originally going to have little to no story in favor of exploration & a more non-linear experience similar to older 2D Zelda games, but some developers felt the game would felt lacking without story production values that's similar to Twilight Princess & Skyward Sword, which resulted in the game being delayed because of it.

Wow that inventory complaint was a real reach.
@wareforcoin57807 жыл бұрын
AndrewsUniverse I think it comes from a lack of experience with any given Bethesda open world game. I can imagine if you weren't used to larger scale item management, it might be kind of a shock to suddenly have to do it. I have to agree that getting a prompt to auto kill the weakest item in your inventory when trying to collect more items might be helpful sometimes, but honestly, that's another thing he doesn't like that really shows his inexperience with item management. The rest of us will probably be more mindful of our space, being used to the feeling of finding the best thing of our lives, but not being able to carry it. I would have liked to see an option to break down items instead of just discarding, though. It could turn into base items, or something I thought was pretty neat in Reckoning was that you could just turn it into money. That game had real use for collected currency, though, and Zelda games usually don't after a while...

Don't really mind the story or the audio, but I have to agree with the inventory... and basically the menus in general; for me, while this game is certainly fun, it's horribly inefficient. It would have much more efficient to be able to look at your Map, inventory, albums, quest logs, etc. on a Wii-U game-pad than on the TV screen via start OR select. Honestly, this makes me wish Breath of the Wild was a Wii-U exclusive (released in November) or, if necessary, take the Twilight Princess route and properly orient the games for the Wii-U and Switch. Apparently, aside from making the experiences identical, the Wii U functions were stripped out because it took away from the experience due to the constant looking at the Game-pad... I'm not sure I would agree with them on that, but oh well.
@mAcroFaze7 жыл бұрын
Great to see a review that commends it whilst being honest about the flaws in it too. I find it a bit odd how the inventory system was made so unintuitive when it's blaringly obvious that you'll have to be accessing it so many times. And given that Nintendo have allowed for quick equip and selection of items in Zelda games, this entry would've been the obvious contender for perfecting that system and streamlining it further. The game still looks brilliant though!
@titanfall222jorge67 жыл бұрын
its really not bad when you compared it to other Open world games.. this is actually improvement.

@ArynBacklogDragon7 жыл бұрын
gotta say, the fact that the story is lacking is a MAJOR disappointment for me. I've been excited for this game for a while, but I'm one of those that needs that plot motivation. If I don't care about what's going on, it's REALLY hard for me to get invested even when the gameplay is as amazing as the reviews make it sound. It's like, " why bother exploring for better things if I don't care for the world and people I'm saving?"
@LiIRobJr7 жыл бұрын
Your mention of the inventory and quick access menu for item, are the same issues of almost all open world adventure games. Bathesda's games are like that, and it still didnt detract from the game experience. You make it seem like having too many items is a bad thing. Like youve never head of that being a problem. Maybe it is new for zelda, it is not a big problem AT ALL. I think you're kind of stupid for even mentioning that in a negative tone.
@gingerqueer227 жыл бұрын
+Robbie P Too many items = More inventory management = Stopping to sift through mounds of spreadsheets. It's really not that hard to understand. Particularly when games have lots of redundant items. "RAT PELTS! COME 'N' GET YER RAT PELTS!" etc. If it's an issue, it's worth bringing up. Even if BotW isn't the only game to have this problem. *Cue PTSD flashbacks to The Witcher 3 and "The Ladies of the Wood" book.*
@RedRaptr7 жыл бұрын
+Rangaman If you're having trouble with so many redundant items then either sell them or store them. I'm not sure about storage in BotW but more than likely you can sell excess items. There's nothing wrong with planning ahead when you're in an open world game. As far as weapons I can't speak much about because personally I want ALL THE WEAPONS EVER in the games I play but ultimately you only need three or four since you constantly find more. So rather than the 8-12 I saw in the video with regards to swords, carry half of that and you'll be fine per shrine or temple visit. Ultimately the issue is personal preference seeing as not everybody would carry everything everywhere all the time.
@NinteddyRose7 жыл бұрын
+Rangaman Well having a bunch of items in these types of games usually is solved by simply selling the items. Thats usually what they are for, or for mixing and with other materials to make something else. But this issue seems easily solved by actually managing your inventory and making sure it doesnt get piled up in the first place. Its like getting mad at street fighter 5 because you lack the basic skills to zone and space correctly.
@ap3productions817 жыл бұрын
Teddy Rose Alternatively, if you're looking for a specific item, there's a button that sorts your items. I'm sure it will have the basic options such as most recent, alphabetic, weakest-most powerful (and vice versa), type of item within the category, etc.

CryptixXx I wouldn't call the many gameplay and control issues minor in any case especially since we are talking about video games here. I have been playing BOTW all day now. The gameplay/controls are excellent and smooth, The world is built much better and the npcs and wildlife are so believable it is mind-boggling. This is what you call a polished game.

One thing I think went a bit underrated in this review was the attention to detail. Stuff like how when you die from electricity, "Game Over" is written in yellow instead of red, or how you can occasionally see a dog chasing its own tail, and it you've ever been swimming in shallow water and you loo down, you can see the very detailed bottom of the lake or river. Or even things like how holding a fiery or icy weapon can raise or lower the temperature. Also, having no loading screen in between regions is so appreciated, especially when you consider that 11 years ago, Twilight Princess had tons of them.

I find this review the best so far. It talked about the problem with frame rate, problems that anyone talked about (like the inventory), talked about the simple, yet good story, and not gushed about how incredible the game is every second (Remember Skyward Sword?). Good job, GX!

i give this review a 10/10 ign is a joke! i saw the ign review knowing it was gonna be biased even then i was sicken. The review never talked about any of the games faults except for barely mentioning if not trying to hide the frame rate issue. This is the first review that has the cajones to criticizes the game and for that i thank you.

The problem with making the quick access menu a circle in this game is that you can greatly expand your inventory slots. The weapon icons would have to scale down to fit the entire wheel on the screen. I currently have 17 weapon slots in my game and I can only imagine how small they'd look scrunched into a weapon wheel on my 65" Tv, let alone the Switch's own 6" screen. Otherwise, great review as usual!

I just want to say how impressed I am by your review. You did not shy away from critizing a game that many reviewers are heralding with high marks. This was the first review that I have seen that noted the jarring slowdowns in fights, which I appreciate. I also believe that inventory management in these kinds of games are tedious, so thank you for covering how that system works. I am glad that the game is getting good reviews, but it is good to know that people like you can look past the mountains of hype to address some of the issues you had with it. Overall, good work remaining objective!

To skip pages of a certain section such as foods you forgot using your right analog. Your right analog helps you skip sections. One thing I wanted for this game is to have a weapon smith so you can give them items and money to make certain weapons.

I just got to play this game for the first time this past week, playing on my friend’s switch while driving to and from vacation. It was a lot of fun and the gameplay/freedom was very welcoming. My major gripe was how your shield/bow/weapon breaks all the time. It was just annoying to me and didn’t really add anything to the game. If I like using a one handed sword and a shield, I shouldn’t be coerced to avoid using that for fear of it breaking. He even let me play some of his gameplay and the Master Sword will have to take time to recover!? It’s the freakin’ Master Sword! It just seems like an annoyance over anything else. You should be allowed to keep whatever items you want without fear of damaging them so easily. I’ve even had some swords that would break after a single timed-counter where it slowed down time and allowed me multiple quick strikes. That’s my biggest gripe, from the limited time o had with the game...maybe 10 or so hours.

I think hours is more an individual result rather than the way it goes.... But otherwise, I'm glad you're willing to bring up the game's shortcomings, unlike most reviews I've watched that blindly praise without mentioning anything bad.

Love the game buuuuut here are some cons -the sidequests are terribly boring and offer small rewards -the dungeons aren't very varied -the bosses look the same -the final boos looks cool but it's kind of a terrible fight -it's the same old Ganon is here and you have to beat him because you're the chosen one -the voice acting ain't anything special -the combat (and this is more subjective) gets really boring fast. The game deserves a good 8 out of ten in my opinion so still a great game

My two cents on this game: I'm happy to say that I didn't really have any hype expectations for this game. To be honest, I kind of forgot it existed until it came out, but when it did, well...let's go back a bit. As a little kid, I picked up Minecraft and was faced with this huge open world, to go anywhere in and do anything in. A few years later, a friend introduced me to Terraria. Same feeling. Years after that, I heard about this little game called No Man's Sky. Same feeling. A couple weeks ago, the reviews for Breath of the Wild started rolling in. I saw some game footage...and I felt that childlike feeling of awe for an endless world to explore and a new thing around every corner for the first time in a long time. I am in awe of this game. Thank you, Nintendo. It took you six years, but oh my god have you outdone yourselves.

I think this is the first review I've heard where there are actual complaints. The inventory is a bit nitpicky, but I can understand it at least. It probably won't be too much of a problem to someone else. No one has mentioned the framerate drops so bluntly in what I've read. They usually gloss over it like "there's some frame rate issues when things get busy, but it's not game breaking", but here I saw that it froze for a good while of time. I'm sure it took you out of the moment. All in all a good review. Looking forward to playing this tomorrow....on Wii U. I had to add that...since no one seems to be talking about the Wii U version.

Third game of Final Fantasy 13, not many liked it for the time limit to get everything done among its other short comings. If you fail by running out of time, then new game+; if you do enough right and win, then new game+ with extras. Also had 4 maps to travel in. Oh right! I can't believe Dead Rising slipped my mind! xD

@WaddleDee1057 жыл бұрын
Major props for being honest and not just blindly giving the game a "I loved it!" score. The awful frame rate issues alone make it impossible to take those 10/10 scores seriously. It looks like a great game, but frame rate problems, even if they aren't constant, should be enough to stop a game from getting a perfect score.
Hey, I have a question about the game: We know that korok seeds expand inventory, but is there a cap of how much you can expand it? Or could you spend all your seeds to expand your weapon inventory for example, leaving just the basic slots for shields, bows and clothing?
@Mattano887 жыл бұрын
this review is trying way to hard to be critical. i mean this guy is a Nintendo fanboy and the sites that are generally more critical like gamespot arnt evan that critical of this amazing game. i give this review a 4.5 out of 10 for trying to hard to be critical and different.
