It's stupid how good zelda is and once you factor in that it's been going strong for 30 years, wild. No other non-nintendo franchise has succeeded in being this good, this consistently for this long

I read this and thought, thats stupid, theres plenty of franchises that have been as consistent as a nintendo franchise for 30 years. I then realized I couldnt think of any other franchise

Imagine the pressure of being the person who had to record their kill of calamity Ganon knowing it would be shown on a huge screen in front of a full auditorium, and then subsequently by thousands of people on the internet I wonder whether they got someone internal to do it (from the dev team I mean) or whether they hired an experienced player like some of the really talented BOTW players on youtube

It always happened on the cymbal crashes, so I think it may have a little to do with volume. The video also gets like a measure or two ahead by the end, which is frustrating too

10:17 nothing will ever hit harder than the original theme... crazy how the longest standing Zelda theme is still the most powerful, to think its first iteration was probably not even 16-bit but 8-bit sound, with no more than 4 tracks available to the composer due to technological limitations... (assuming that last part, the GBA did only have 4 audio tracks available to it, and Zelda predates the GBA by what like 15-20 years? So I'm assuming, even on consoles, the fact that it's so much older would mean there were great technological limits to soundtrack creation for games at the time. Anyway I'm side tracking, that original theme hits right in the pit of my heart and gives me shivers when I hear it :')
@JetFiiire
@JetFiiire Жыл бұрын
??? Maybe I misunderstood you, but I think you're very wrong. Golden Sun on GBA has more than 80 tracks, Advance Wars has more than 50... Even Pokemon red/blue games who came out 5 years before the GBA have more than 50 tracks on it. Zelda a Link to the past: 30+ tracks, 10 years before the GBA came out. Even Zelda link's awakening on the original gameboy has 30+ tracks and it came out 8 years before the GBA release.
@HeyItsKora
@HeyItsKora Жыл бұрын
@@JetFiiire Ah I believe there's a misunderstanding. When I say "track" I'm not referring to how many pieces of music comprise the OST of the game. I'm using the word "track" in the audio production sense of "one song is made up of 4 tracks", for example a song could be made up of a guitar track, a bass track, a drum track, and a vocal track, totalling 4 tracks in that one piece of music. That's what I meant, back in the day, due to technological restrictions, any given song on those kinds of old games could only be composed of 4 tracks. Well, it's actually a bit more nuanced than that I believe, because in truth the limitation is that the audio engine is only capable of producing 4 different sounds (notes/percussion/game SFX etc) at any given time. This is why in old Pokemon games for example, the sound effects of an attack during battle actually temporarily _overwrite_ some of the music tracks, to maintain a total maximum of 4 simultaneous sounds (because the sound of the attack counts as one audio track, even if only for a second or two). Also think back on the low HP sound in old Pokemon games too, ever noticed how during that repeated "bing bong, bing bong, bing bong" sound, you lose notes from the actual music? That's why :D The only mistake I may have made is that I was referring to GBA every time. I don't know if the 4 track limit was only on original Gameboy, or all pre-GBA gameboys or what, though I'm at least _pretty sure_ that the GBA had the exact same 4 track (or, 4 note/sound) limit, but I'd need to fact check that to be sure. I don't know the details of the exact audio limitations of each different retro console, but I'm sure it was pretty ubiquitous at that time because it was simply a limitation of the tech, it was physically impossible to play more than 4 sounds at one moment without compromising some other aspect of the game, due to limited storage space for game assets, RAM limits etc. This was at least the case on old Nintendo handhelds, as implied in the original comment, I don't know about other consoles... So yeah idk the _exact_ ins and outs, but I do know that what I described above was 100% real for at least a handful of early Nintendo handhelds, but prolly other consoles too, certainly older consoles. There are many videos about it on YT and it's super interesting, I defo recommend watching some about it.

@@HeyItsKora Ok my bad I didn't understand what you were talking about, thanks for taking the time to explain, now I understand fully ! And btw I agree with your original comment about the Zelda theme being criminaly good, especially for something that was indeed hindered by the available technology at the time! This theme is timeless, and has been revisited so many times in so many differents way, and yet it's still recognizable easily and it takes you back instantly... very great theme, one of the best
