Nothing cooler than the feeling you get when you step into the final dungeon. For the entire game you have grown used to the single dungeon song. Then there is Gannon, it gives you chills, it feels like the end, you are finally there, the final boss. There is something so powerful about a new song after hours upon hours of that 6 minutes of music looped.

In 1990, I was a ten-year-old girl visiting a video game store in San Jose. My mom, her brother, and the proprietor all tried to convince me not to buy The Legend of Zelda, because it was too hard. I am going to be thirty-eight next Tuesday, and I'm so glad I didn't listen to them. I'm saving up to buy Breath of the Wild, and eventually want to get the GBA rereleases of a lot of the other games.

I'll never forget getting this in 1989 for my birthday. I had collected both the red and blue rings and whistles, had a shit ton of heart HP, and was generally killing it at the game, when the power went out, cut the power to the NES during the game. When it came back and I restarted the NES, all my saves were gone. I was so angry and sad that I cried for a literal hour lol.

You didn't miss much. There was some better music, better cartoons, better toys, and some better TV and moves, but that's about it. Other than that it was just daytime talk show hosts like Oprah, Donahue, and Geraldo trying to convince all the fat, suburbanite housewives that theur precious fuck trophies were being fingerbanged by satanic cult members in the schools and daycare centers. And who could ever forget the moral majority. Ugh. The 80s are fun to reminisce about but I'd never want to go back.

Something about this feels so magical, and it's hard to explain why. Orchestra music is here to say for The Legend of Zelda series and it's all great stuff, but there's something about the simplicity of this chiptune music and how it's still able to convey specific emotions and feeling just goes to show how much of an incredibly composer Koji Kondo is.
