I always liked the Imprisoned fight, but moreso because of the atmosphere than anything. As far as fighting him three times, heh well where do I even start? In Megaman 3 you fight Break Man 4-5 times. In SMB1 you fight Bowser 8 times. In Super Mario World you fight Reznor four times. In Super Mario Sunshine, you fight the Oil-Spitting Pirahna Fartknockers like 4-5 times. In Banjo-Tooie you fight Klungo three times. In FF6 you fight Ultros 4 times. FF9, Beatrix. FFX, Seymour. Paper Mario 2, Lord Dump. SMRPG, Croco and Belome. Link Between Worlds, Yuga. Cave Story, Balrog. Mother 3, Fassad. Thanks TV Tropes! And I was just skimming really.

The thing about fighting most bosses in general is that there's a buildup. When you beat a dungeon or level or get to specific points, you expect a boss. In 2D games, repetition could at least be attributed to limitation. Something like SMB isn't about the boss fight at the end, it's the platforming. In later, newer games we expect more. And even most repeated bosses in newer games are supposed to either have a new element that changes up the fight to where you can't just repeat what you did the first time or, in the case of boss rushes, show how much more powerful you've become. The Imprisoned fight barely changes until the third time when you need help, and you're always required to hit the spike three times regardless of how powerful you are. It's not a break in the action, it's a break in the story randomly thrown at you multiple times, and the gap between the second a third is so small that it shouldn't have been necessary. Also, hitting a spike instead of actually feeling like you're doing damage like when you attack most bosses in Zelda doesn't ease any frustration fighting it multiple times might cause.
@eclecticmuso7 жыл бұрын
I think the issue many people have with The Imprisoned is not that you fight it multiple times, but that very little changes about the fight or the strategy...

The scene with Groose behind the temple is hands-down the best scene in the game. You get to see the "mighty" Groose crumble against the might of what link deals with all the time, and then some! You also see that he really does care about Zelda, and even a glimpse of some future character development! I love it, and love what Nintendo has done with this character. Also, I love Emile's voice for Groose, so good job!

Chugga, I know you most likely won't see this, but I felt I needed to say it. I got Skyward Sword soon after it came out, but while I loved it, Zelda games don't tend to be too nice to arachnophobes like myself. The Skulltulas were one thing, but the Arachas were always pretty much unbearable. My pace slowed to a crawl for the duration of the Mining Facility, and when it came time to see new areas of the Lanayru Province and face countless Arachas once again, I stopped entirely, and haven't touched the game since. Until now. Thanks to this LP re-sparking my love for the game, and giving me a chance to see that I can handle Arachas better than I used to (and just how unthreatening they really are), I finally went back to Skyward Sword. After years, I left Skipper's Retreat and eventually made my way to the Sandship. While I'm still uncomfortable dealing with them, I can now actually handle myself (at least somewhat) near Arachas. I'll still have to brave through the Sandship, but now I have every confidence I can make it through, and beat the game at long, _long_ last. Thank you so much for re-motivating me to return to this game, Emile. You get ten Gratitude Crystals from me.

I actually like the harp. Moving back and forth in motion and tempo with objects around you is therapeutic in a way, and the music is beautiful. I always went for the toes, which led to many lost hearts due to the shockwaves coming from his feet.

One of the first things I've come to notice by this point in the game is how the symbols of the three songs of Nayru are all over; the crescents of the Song of Echoes, the lines of the Song of Waves and of course reminding billions of the Zora Sapphire, the symbol for the all powerful Song of Ages. For me, Oracle of Ages was hands down my favorite Gameboy entry for the Zelda series, and tied with Twilight Princess as my favorite of them all, so to see these markings, well... I feel a little sad not to see the four symbols of the Seasons too, since those games were a pair. Just wanted to toss that out.

Well Chuggaa, if you enjoy fighting the Imprisoned by jumping from an upper ledge to land on top, boy do I have a treat for you. In the center of the pit at the very bottom where the Imprisoned first emerges is a giant up draft. Using sends you way into the air and puts Link into a skydive. Doing this lets you simply direct yourself on top of the boss and yes, even FACEPLANTING into him. I love doing it this way and even if it becomes a bit ineffective later into the fight because it can become a bigger run to get to the updraft, I still find it the most fun and satisfying way to fight the Imprisoned.

Something I never noticed before - at 20:25, right when the last hit is dealt to The Imprisoned and he throws Link off, Link has an animation where he wobbles and tries to keep his balance. Personally, I like the harp. Though I can understand where you're coming from when you say you don't like it.
@Flaminstarwarsguy8517 жыл бұрын
11:23 That item is *not* a harp. It is actually a lyre. The strings of a harp connect directly to the base of the instrument while the strings of a lyre would instead connect to a bridge piece that joins the two ends together. Also, lyres tend to be light instruments that can be carried in one's hands and are usually played while standing while harps are large, stand on the floor, and are played while the musician is in a seated position. I did look this up but correct me if I'm wrong. I just felt like pointing that out.
@newbiezinc43387 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry Chugga, but you couldn't be more wrong about the harp (though it's technically a lyre). First of all, this instrument has all its strings set to fixed notes, making it extremely uncapable of playing any flexible stuff--- unless it is a magical lyre like Apollo's lyre (or some other Greek God's lyre). This means that it wouldn't be practical for Nintendo to set the instrument to buttons, because how are you going to do that? Each button for an individual chord? That's not practical at all. Second, this instrument IS a magical instrument. Try playing it at all different locations with different background music, you will find that it automatically plays in synch with all of them--- dungeons, caves, battle music--- and by doing so you can hear some coolest chords from Zelda. Oh, you can even play the harp during the staff roll. SS harp's power of accompanying is too magical, and too underappreciated by many fans... In my opinion it makes Skyward Sword one of the most musical game in the series. Though it would be great if we could play songs any time we want, like the Ballad of Goodess... hopefully in HD?

I haven't finished the episode yet, but when Groose was relieved to hear that Zelda was okay, it changed the way I see him. Like, whoa. That was actually genuine and nice and he actually really cares about her.

The cutscene at the beginning with Link and Groose makes me laugh every time (Especially Link's face at 1:45 XD) And here I was hoping you'd bring back the "chopped off his toe" gag from your Majora's Mask LP.

Honestly, I love the Imprisoned fight. I know the boss fight gets a lot of hate for how difficult and aggravating the fight is on your first go. (trust me, I know) But It's not all that bad and I think it's very clever for a boss design, especially because I love chopping off his toes and feeling good about it. BTW, thanks Chuggaaconroy for the extra strategy for defeating the Imprisoned.

There is a reason I don't like the Imprisoned. It's not that the gimmick of the battle sucks, it's the repetetiveness of the boss that annoys me. Sure it gets more abilities, but you shouldn't have to face the same boss 3 times in a game with the same goal in mind.

i always knew the droppin gon the head tactic was a thing, but when i did it more then once, the boss just shook me off, so i though the ai learnt that you could do that, and made you do outher ways of fighting it. aprrenly i was wrong... that or it happens in another fight.

If I may add... The area in the center where the sealing spike was actually has a giant updraft that launches you into the air and allows your to drop basically anywhere in the map. It's helpful in the third fight when he flies, and It's also helpful when you just want to get onto his head without dealing with being in the right position.

I feel the exact same way about the Harp. I had wanted a Harp since my Ocarina of Time days when Sheik played it to teach us the warp songs, and you have no idea how excited I was when Zelda had given us the harp as our main instrument in the game. I was so disappointed when I saw how you played it. The songs have no overworld use outside opening the doors to the Silent Realms and for near end-game padding, and each of the songs have a one time use, so none of the songs (outside of the Ballad of the Goddess) are committed to memory (which is sad since each of the songs sound pretty) and I find funny the Harp feels more like conducting then the Wind Waker (an actual conducting baton) does.

I legitimately never knew this method of fighting the Imprisoned existed. I thought I knew everything about Skyward Sword, but Emile actually taught me something...my hats off to you. That said, the Imprisoned is still the one thing in a Zelda that legitimately creeps me out.

Even with the wind geysers, I still don't like the imprisoned fights. Too damn repetitive and more often than not, a geyser just isn't really in the right place. I get how you like them them, but I kinda don't. I do like how Groose helps out later, however.
