This is the first Zelda I played all the way through. I have additional nostalgia for it because I both received it and first played it on my birthday, and the game opens on Link's birthday. All the things that people complained about were things that I loved about it: the art style, the amount of sailing, the Triforce quest, etc. No other game until BotW felt like such a massive adventure.

Man, I was 10 when this came out and I got this on my bday and played all the way from the beginning until Dragon Roost. That was the first time I "tested" a new game and got carried away because it was so good. Also the little things about this game that make it so damn charming: Link's sneaky face when sidling, the metal gear stealth section, the comedy, the farting pigs, running away from snot boy, and the fact that you can pick up enemy weapons, etc. The music and gameplay also were great. They knocked it out of the park and made one of the most replayable and timeless Zelda games in the series.

Hearing you guys reminisce about wind waker launch days is really bittersweet 😢 I was around 7-8 when wind waker released, too young to know about the controversies and didn't actually discover the game until I was 12, but I still remember when people trash-talked wind waker even into the 2010s and I was always fighting them, but now everyone praises it. So how I discovered it: my best friend at the time owned the game and was stuck in the forsaken fortress, so he gave me a chance to try the game. It was like love at first sight, I literally couldn't sleep for weeks until I had my own copy of wind waker, it was all I could think about. When my mom finally took me to my childhood gamestop and got me the game, the rest was history. I'm 27 now, and Wind waker is still my favorite video game of all time. It's also the most replayable game for me, I can't tell ya how many times I've completed it. Luigi's mansion 1 actually kept a record count for every time I finished it, I wish they'd done that with ww! And it wasn't even my first zelda! That honor belongs to ocarina of time, but wind waker was definitely my very first full playthrough. I was a broke teen without a wii u in 2013 so I didn't get to play wind waker hd (much to my suffering), but today I have it in my collection. Hard to believe you guys were around my age now when it released, hard to believe that 20 years even happened! Crazy.. wind waker is like my home away from home 💚

I was 8 and it made a big impression. I knew about earlier entries in The Legend of Zelda. The bokoblins in that blue dusky fortress manning the searchlights was really cool. Forest Haven marked another highlight. I was familiar with the Deku Tree and how intriguing was it to see him in a new form. The nods to Ocarina of Time throughout the journey in Wind Waker were understood to me. To this day the ocean and the islands from the game have gotten into me in a deep way, still having dreams sometimes about them. I'm enjoying the channel.

WW is one of my favorite games of all time. I remember the whole excitement before, I remember the moment I changed my mind about the graphics. The main title screen is still my favorite zelda music piece of all time, in fact, I love that soundtrack even more than OOT. While the latter game was monumental and blew my mind and still live rent-free in my mind, WW shaped me as a gamer. There is so much nostalgia for me around that one. My friend and I were so excited for it, picking the game, obsessing over the box. The gamecube may not have been the best console, but that period of gaming history remains my favorite because so many major games and events happened during those days. It was such an exciting era for gaming.

So I was moving from Alaska back to Oregon and missed a lot of the stuff surrounding it. My brother bought it for me as a welcome back. I felt shocked when I saw the style, set down the controller and walked away for a few weeks. I wasn’t angry, I just walked into it with preconceived notions and knew I needed to let those go. I came back to it 3 weeks later and have been in love ever since. BOTW, WW, and OoT are my top 3.

I was only 12 at the time, so maybe the graphics didn't bother me because I was actually the targeted audience for this kind of graphics, but I just loved everything about the game almost immediately.
