They would have DVD players in them, but sometimes you could connect other devices. If you had a power converter, you could do things like connect your PlayStation to play games on the go. This was before things like the DS or the PSP came about that really launched the pocket gaming era.

My parents had a SUV like that at one time, it was factory installed too, only issue was you couldn't use the video function while the car was driving, my dad found out if you run a jumper wire to the parking brake it bypasses the security feature. My sister and I played games all the time even on short trips to the grocery store.

If it stops at the black logo screen, then it's passed the copy protection check, and you probably have a bad laser or other mechanical failure.

this was my first ever PlayStation though back in the 90s it was called PSX as its code name and it stuck until the white PSOne came around, I guess a lot of people didn't know that gaming history, though in Australia it was still called the PSX no matter what was said until the white PSOne came around. I remember mine one being modded, well guess I need find a PS2 PAHT Edition to slap a 2TB SSD into it to run all my PSOne games and my PS2 Games

It’s a bite white box with controller ports kn the back that’s made to play ps2 and ps1 games second, play dvd movies first. It had the XMB like the PSP and later PS3 but it was obviously more primitive

What everyone here is talking about though is the original playstation was codenamed Playstation X (psx) and that name just stuck around until they remodeled the ps1 to a smaller unit with curved corners called Playstation One (psOne). Most people know the OG ps1 as psx :)
