Do you like it? If i get one, I'm going to use it mainly for aviation photography but other things too. Also, would one of the fairly new nikon 70-300 lenses fit on it?
@ԳուրգենՄարգարյան2 жыл бұрын
@@ralphsjets I love the camera. I used to have a non-full frame Nikon dslr and I had a few DX lenses. I can still use them, however, for example with 18-55 lense, if I use the 18mm, I will not be able to get the full frame. So, you may need to get FX lenses to get the full frame out of it. The camera shoots amazing photos in raw format, which is what I love about it. I can process the images to get the most desirable picture that I want to see. Btw, the camera will work with any F Mount lens. On some older F mounts, you may not be able to use all of the apertures-for example, with 50mm 1.8 lens you’ll get an error, but if you move the aperture of the lens to 2.8, it’ll work. So, yeah, I love everything about this camera.

managed to scoop up a really well taken care of D3 with 48K shutter count "locally". seller actually drove an hour and a half to get it to me. main reason i got it was because i'm dealing with my GAS of purchasing Nikon F film cameras and lenses and wanted a way to share the lenses, plus i wanted a FULL FRAME camera. i was hesitant at first because of the "limiting" 12 megapixels, but after a bit of research, i wanted one. happy to report that i really love this camera even though i just got. the way it feels in hand, the way it looks, and the images it produces just make me want to shoot more. thanks for sharing this, even tho i just watched this prior to getting my D3. hope to see more of your amazing work on here.

Nikon user for 36 years but finally wanted to go FX so purchased a used D3 in December 2020. The feel of the camera is fantastic. It is not the plastic lightweight cameras of today that photographers for some reason desire. I know some will say that 11 fps is mundane but I remember being happy to get 6 fps with my F3 and attached MD in the good old days of film. The nice thing about the D3 is all of my Nikkor AI, Ai s and D lenses work flawlessly. Very happy to have a classic camera that is more than capable in today's world.
@StuntMcCartney3 жыл бұрын
Exactly, the quality and feel were good extras, but the main reason I bought this camera and why I'm steering away from the Z series is that F mount. I know I only have 2 lenses, but the fact that I can use them natively without an adapter was the price saving factor that contributed to looking into this camera in particular. Plus it's fun to tell people to hold the camera and see their face when they realize how heavy it is.

But after using smaller cameras in the last years, I little bit lost focus on carrying the heavy gear that I used to. I'm sure I must be wrong, but I once heard that pixel counts were 'per square inch', meaning that the claimed 12mp sensor in a mobile phone is actually far less being as the sensor is the size of a child's finger nail. Also, the relentless need for 50mp+ also requires the Cray super-computer to process the images! Just before digital became 'mainstream', pro-photogs were using Nikons and Canons with two or three mega-pixels for photo-reportage and even magazine work. Due to age and disability I've mostly left digital behind now and shoot with a lovely old Nikon F2AS which is totally mechanical and leaves me in control, although I do still own an old (!) consumer-level Sony Alpha 350 with 14.2mp (on an APS sized sensor making it 8 - 9mp in full-frame terms). Anyway, sorry about the long comment. Great video and glad you've not succumbed to 'more is better' horseshit.

Nikon Pro cameras, starting from Nikon F all the way to F3, F4, F5, F6 and then the D700, D3 all the way to the stuff they offer today are all first class tools. The older digital models like the D3, D700, D200,and even the D300 including my D800 were more focused on still photography, where they excel, regardless of mega pixel count. The later models are more jack of all trades. This one is a good choice.

Yeah, I got my D3 right after the six months worldwide shortage from its launch and used it as my primary camera up to the end of last year. Its weight and size was similar to my first SLR back four decades ago, the Nikon F2A + Motor Drive + Battery Pack. However, its ergonomic is what I like best. When it may not be regarded as legendary by some, but definitely a milestone that returned Nikon back to the game. As is the MP of a sensor enough really depends on the photo op. Even for snapshots taken from afar may need higher MP to crop. Also, one may have to work harder with lesser or outdated technology. Certainly, using the Nikon Z6's Auto WB (keep white) is way easier for indoors than the D3.

I have m'less; and yet I still shoot my D700 whenever I can - mostly all I ever use at home and whenever nobody who might say "why aren't you using the Sony?" isn't looking --- If I go out in bad weather, or if I want something hanging off my neck that can take knocks, again, D700. If I shoot color, Nikon again. As fast as the Sony is, I only like it for B/W as the colors are just not there. In all of my Sonys I always feel the blues and greens are just off and end up shooting the Nikon sensored D700 - indeed, I feel it is this that makes them special -- these huge pixels and the color they capture. So, I don' think the magic will be there in the D5 or D6 and so I long to buy D3S or D4 with their Nikon sensors --- and luckily, those are more and more affordable all the time!
