"The LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Color Sorter: Where Do The Cables Go and How Does It Work"

Hey guys!! This video shows you where the cables go for the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Color Sorter and how does it work. Touch Sensor goes in Port 1 and the Color Sensor goes in Port 3. The Large Motor goes into Port D and the Medium Motor goes into Port A. Hope this helps and hope you enjoy!!!

My son and I recently started discovered your videos and have really been enjoying them. We do have a frustrating problem that maybe you could offer advice on. We have built the color sorter twice, and we have two ev3 bricks. The program will not work for us. We have updated firmware’s, confirmed the ports are all in the right place, but it doesn’t work. It will scan the colors, then when we press the start button, it says the first color and then doesn’t do anything... the motor feels engaged too because you can slide the conveyor belt. Any advice? Thank you! Also: if the ports are in the correct place, the motor moves to the touch sensor, then stops and does nothing... but if I switch the A and D ports (where the program alerts me they are in the wrong spot), only then will it move and allow to me to scan the colors, but then will only say the name but nothing happens. Really confused... we have built gyro boy with great success.

Our class has built the Color Sorter a million times so I have seen a million issues. Umm I read what you have tried and I have several suggestions. My first question is does everyhting work on motor control? Does the conveyor belt go from side-to-side and the sorter sorts out the pieces? Does the sorter actually hit the touch sensor when it goes to the left? Where did you get the Program from? I'd love to be able to see how it's messing up. Can you send me a video what you're doing? hi mr.hino how much time does this robot normally take to build? i am building it in my robotics class and i only have 3 days to do it. i get around a half an hour to build it each day. do you think im gonna be able to finish it?

Woah....that is pretty quick to get that built. That robot has around 112 pages and the average student can build around 30 pages a day in my class and they have close to 50 minutes.

Hi Mr. Hino, i've build the robot and the program, but it stops at BC with the color scanner. It shows the arrow but it doesn't beep. The program looks the same as in the instructions and i don't know what i'm doing wrong. Do you maybe know what i'm doing wrong?

A few things to check. Is the sorter hitting the touch sensor? Is the large motor in D? Medium motor in A? Touch in 1? Color in 3? Can the sorter sort on motor control?

@@LEGORoboticsMrHino Thank you for your response! It works now with the downloaded program, my own program still doesn't work, but that is okay, I probably made a mistake that i can't find on my own. I'm happy i got it to work eventually. By the way, my color sensor also seems to be color blind.
