So glad we understand each other, Steve. 😉 I knew you could do it. This was really fascinating. I have found Now Playing at Canterbury at Thrift. Excellent! Thanks so much for doing the tag.

When Pat and I were Skyping, she told me that she had “suggested” you turn this into a regular series. I assume you will bow to her will.

Thank you, Hannah, for encouraging Steve to see my point of view.

@@saintdonoghue now Steve, your tendency toward hyperbole really needs to be checked. We are simply making suggestions…For your own good, of course. 😉

What a fantastic video. I'm sure I won't be alone in requesting that you occasionally do more of these; just thinking about how many now forgotten authors you can introduce us to is making me giddy.

Thank you so much for doing this tag! (I could completely see Pat threatening you with this tag!). This is exactly what I was looking for this tag--introductions to authors that many, including me, had never heard of!

I could watch you do a whole series of these. Thank you for choosing this tag!

Adding to the chorus here, but remember when you loved the Page 112 Tag so much that you turned into a regular feature, then incorporated it into single-book mail hauls, or just randomly to advance copies you hadn't requested or heard about? You did a lot of stuff with that, and I can tell you enjoyed this idea enough to do do similar creative things with it, let alone just revisit it as it stands semi-regularly. To reiterate the thoughts of the many, I'd love to see any future installments.

I agree with some of the other commenters. A series of introducing authors would be great! Very interesting. ty

Canterbury turned out to be my favorite of all your recommendations. I enjoy the styles of mid-century writing and Bourjaily’s clearly having a blast giving them a send-up.
@AndersRah-cq9bv2 ай бұрын
Well, let me mention Olga Tokarczuk and Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead ('introduce' doesn't quite fit this book, does it). I just can't stop thinking about it after your discussion of Bourjaily and blood-lust. What an unlikely revenge story!...and, also a perfect title. I think I must read it again.

I quit smoking 21 years ago -- a heart attack did it. I still think there should be places where smoking is allowed, if someone is willing to pay to provide such a space. Apparently, not so much. Going into a bar that reeked of stale beer used to trigger me, but not anymore.

Me neither! It’s amazing to remember how ubiquitous they were!

I certainly endorse turning this into a regular series. However, your description of this author's works makes me want to run the other way. Saul Bellow, a mature writer, could use an introduction as could Norman Mailer.

I don't know. I think cats also get a thrill out of killing things.
@simonagree40702 ай бұрын
I'm 68, but I read mostly different things from what you read. I'm really not sure about what you mean by "maturity". I have seen books by the author you are introducing in the bargain bin, but have never been attracted to them.

Hm, I clicked on this because I couldn't figure out why you were showing me a picture of Billy Barty. 😃 PS: Trim your damn eyebrow!

You better do more videos like this, or all of your future shirtless Skype sessions with booktubers will be demanding and mean. Rumours will begin flying about that old 28 “cook” and you don’t want that, trust me…

Just found “Confessions of a Spent Youth” on Kindle. I have a mass market paperback (very old) of “ Now Playing at the Canterbury.”
