Hola! I just found your channel. I'm learning Spanish. I'm from the Philippines and let me just say that I found it easy to understand your explanation of "u" being silent before another vowel 'cause it also appears in Filipino. So "g" before "a", "o", and "u" is a 'hard g' but not before "e" and "i." Anyway, you explained it very well. Gracias!

Ana you could tell English speakers the 'g' is like the 'c' in English, as in Colombia and cereal. The next vowel determines the sound. They would understand. P.S. I'm writing this In July of the Covid-19 year. I'm going to Isla Mujeres for six months (when we're allowed to, of course), and all of your videos have been SO helpful in teaching este gringo espanol. Muchas gracias por todo.

By watching these videos have found that Spanish is very similar to English. In English G makes a J sound before E I and Y and in Spanish it makes a J sound before E and I. Also, you make Spanish very easy to learn so thank you for that!

So we are generally following the same rule as the letter "c" in the previous video (in the Spanish Alphabet playlist), with a hard consonant when preceding a, o or u, but a softer consonant when preceding e or i. I never learned this from Mr. Brown in my 8th grade Spanish class.
