Google dropping uBlock Origin like that is not because "they didn't update something", it's because Google is literally removing the majority of features necessary for ad-blocking. There is no API for uBlock to migrate to that will perform even half the ad-blocking they are doing right now. This is just Google finally pulling the monetization lever on their "free" browser now that they have the power to.

@@notthere83 This is core browser stuff, so the changes will be made in the Chromium code, and also apply to Chrome. It's possible that initially the code will just be disabled but not removed (so other browsers can re-enable it), but it will eventually get removed completely.

Watch everyone flee to Brave, Vivaldi, or Firefox. I've never liked Google Chrome (nor Chromium) and have just used Firefox. I also go out of my way to yell at the Firefox devs whenever they do something insanely stupid. My yelling has had the net effect of producing a decent web browser by getting them to rollback dumb changes or at least reach a decent compromise. My yelling, however, hasn't convinced the devs to close the blatant security holes in Firefox. I will continue to work on that.

17:10 they basically do this with college textbooks in a sense. They republish them every year with the problems made different. If you get an older edition of the textbook, you'll get every question of the homework wrong because the questions are different and that's basically the only change. It makes me irate. If I can't find a book in pdf format online, I just rent a digital copy for as short a period as I can and use a screen recorder while flipping through. Tedious, but worth.

@Bob_Smith19
@Bob_Smith19 2 ай бұрын
Coasting on seven year old hardware, what’s wrong w/ that? People have been fooled into thinking you need to update every generation. You can skip multiple generations before upgrading. I realize enterprise is different but even then you have to question if they really need to upgrade constantly.
@formes2388
@formes2388 2 ай бұрын
Enterprise is Business. And in Business, we factor in - Cost Opportunity, Total Cost of Operation, Profit Opportunity. Lets talk a woodworking shop - If you have a steady income, and clean up takes you say an hour a day, investing in a dust collection solution up to around 5000$ can actually be worth it over the course of a year. And that is without factoring in the quality of life improvement - JUST the money consideration. If you are a home hobby shop, unless you have the disposable income and nothing else to target it that is more desirable, that is a huge chunk of change. With data centres - you need to consider paying back the hardware, the overhead cost, and profit. Constant upgrading doesn't make sense, but also - depending on what you run, you have optimized software, and you have a fairly long validation time to make sure the mission critical software will run correctly. Couple this with unexpected problems? Why would you want to constantly be upgrading to cutting edge? The truth is, if you want solid stability - you buy last gens cutting edge that is proven, and has had the problems worked out.

Some people still seem to think its 1995; A time when there was no doubt in Moore's law and 6→12 month upgrade with new machines at 24→36months was par for the course. 7 years is nothing now. Especially if you plan each new machine for reasonable longevity, using reputable brand name stuff and don't pushing the overclocks.(Think buying a truck not a weekend drag racing car.) I'm still getting solid work out of a Piledriver rig circa 2013 having one minor GFX card upgrade 5 years ago; though it is feature limited at this point, being PCIe2(44 lanes but HIP/rocm requires PCIe3 and up), no M.2 or USB-C, and no AVX2 or 512. It was only $500 for motherboard, CPU, PSU and case. Another $250(+$100 for replacement battery last year.) for a good UPS because my local power grid is janky and my renter uses trash tier AC that causes voltage dips every hour.

You'd be surprised the amount of companies that will invest tons into hardware & software they don't need because they need to be in on the latest fad and not 'miss the train' (you are never explained why we need to be on that particular train or what the objective is strangely enough) I find it similar to stock market bubbles and busts or cryptos etc... I was head of IT, which included procurement, in a lets say tech company for 8 years and the amount of ridiculous requests I got on my desk for half baked projects that I instantly knew would go nowhere was mindboggling. I exited 2021 before the AI craze was here but I fully expect I would have got someone trying to get us to buy a few of these 5 figures nvidia GPUs to 'play around with' sooner rather than later

If you are old enough to remember the late night get rich quick infomercials that were common in the late-1990s/early-2000s; dealing mortgage notes, flipping houses and such, "Just buy our information kit." The kits had some legit instruction, but anyone with the ambition to put it to use would have already known such generic info and most others would not be able to put it to use. The same sort of daft get rich quick mentality exists in many corporate middle and upper managment monkeys: 5S, six sigma, Lean, AI, DEI consultants, outsourcing[forgetting the QC portion], "green" anything, "smart" anything, etc. Some people rush to stake out a mining claim dreaming of gold, others sell them over priced equipment. I saw the same when I was consulting for some new [legal] pot growing operations. The real money is in selling equipment to the fools who don't understand basic economics or science. All my clients were convinced they needed new fangled XYZ equipment because of some marketing wank or pop-science articles they have skimmed. Often even after giving them the hard numbers showing they can get the same result with 1/4 of the capital investment using the old boring tech, and that the new stuff is only good in very narrow circumstances that doesn't apply to them.

Delta must have gone through a brief window of being useful. I remember back before you guys were born (when Tricky Dicky was VPOTUS) sitting in an airport in Miami with my parents for 6 to 8 hours for a Delta flight to Detroit. There were not a plethora of alternate flights - and a stubborn step-father. The only good thing is we got a whole wide body jet almost to ourselves for the flight when it finally flew. That was the icing on the trip's cake. Meeting Nixon was "enh, so this girl I'd been swimming with all day had a father - and a lot of strange men hovering around him." (Live long enough and you, too, will have several such tales to drop.) {^_-} (And I cannot sit still, either.)

Because games dont stretch over 32 threads. And the ability to multithread is highly dependent on how fast the main render thread is being calculated. Most of the time, scaling across cores stops after 6/8 threads, and then it is entirely vertical (clockspeed, L3 cache, IPC). So eventhough you only see 6%, and you will never see a single core hit 100%, you can still be CPU bottlenecked. I do sometimes bemoan how people watch all this content by Gamers Nexus, L1 Techs, etc, but then trot out the same repeated mistakes. Did you not watch GN's content with Tom Peterson about GPU BUSY? Watch it again.

Would be nice to get ahead of that mocap thing by the actors pre-capturing a TON of high quality movements, actions, FPS pov animations, etc then sell them at affordable prices that negate the studios from risking blowback from ripping people off......If they are really nice, maybe they would sell them cheaper to small dev teams using something like UE5. I am oddly passionate about supporting small dedicated teams developing PC only games that actually take full advantage of a PCs capabilities beyond visuals. I feel like we have been getting the same games over and over with slight visual improvements for the past 20± years...often at the expense of depth/detail, at least during the time between xb/ps generations...if not always. In some cases literally in the case of Skyrim. Anyway, that's the main body of my comment. I will add two more short things. One, is Rich Evens filming with his phone on again? And lastly, Krista, you would be invited to a party I throw! I wpuld even throw a party if you would come! 😊 PS: everyone knows that a device's thiness and battery life is all that matters 😁

theater attendance will continue to dwindle, even in the rebounding from the virus. experts say we are more than likely entering into another recession, but even without (or despite of) that possible future, the movie industry will still suffer. People en mass are prone to habituation, and given the shift towards streaming at home vs going out, things will keep trending in that direction. That's not even taking into account the fact that hollywood loves to shoot itself in the foot every chance it gets by never betting on new IP and pushes remakes/reboots/sequels and increasing budgets despite the obvious abysmal results of that in recent years. They need to bring back the low-to-mid budget films. Invest in a dozen projects and at least one will more than cover the cost of the others if they fail/break even. This is just my opinion but it's backed up by substantial historical data.

Fairly recently they merged with Funimation (the #2 of Anime Streaming) since the merger older shows are just going missing, Dubbing and Subbing have been getting worse and unsurprisingly the pice has steadily gone up. The Anime Community have been stirred up, a bit.

I still dont buy it. It went from 1.6V VID requests to 1.55V. Is that really going to make it last significantly longer?..

I have no idea for this specific case, but generally, if something's running near the bleeding edge, 3% either way can make a huge difference.

I have a sonos one that the pair doesn't work because the chip went bad and they do not make them anymore. I barely used it. I'm mad. Still have it if I can find another to part out.

About Apple hating WebApps. Yeah, that reminds me that while I hate they didn't, at least Mozilla was upfront about refusing to support Progressive WebApps

100% it’s because of apples bottom line but also, have you met the average Apple user? How many would understand that web apps are deteriorating their battery life, and follow up, how many would just blame Apple?

Smarthome stuff should always be additive. No matter what is going on "in the cloud" or if the cloud ceases to exist, DUMB HOME technology should still function as long as you have power. That's a baseline. Better than baseline is self-hosted. All the fancy features work if I have a small server providing intelligence.
