Tumbbad has been garnering a lot of praises for it’s sound design. Several sleepless nights and having to master the sound at least four times we finally got it right. Check out the story of ace sound designer, Kunal Sharma as he spills the beans on how he had to build the sound of Tumbbad from the scratch & what went in the process of doing it.

I do not think that there is a competition between, for example, Bladerunner and Tumbbad. India and the USA alike have a lot of consumerist movies but every once in a while, we get lucky and are gifted a masterpiece.

It is not original. Nor the mythology in is Indian. It has no connection with Indian mythology.The story is based on Stephen King's story Gramma. In the original story, Hastur is a witch. Tumbad made changes to fit in Indian set up. Still it is mythology is alien. Hinduism doesn't call entities like Hastur god. In Indian cosmology he could at best be an asura. Hastur (The Unspeakable One, The King in Yellow, Him Who Is Not to be Named, Assatur, Xastur, H'aaztre, or Kaiwan) is an entity of the Cthulhu Mythos by H. P. Lovecraft. Hastur first appeared in Ambrose Bierce's short story "Haïta the Shepherd" (1893) as a benign god of shepherds. Subsequently Robert W. Chambers used the name in his late 1800s stories to represent both a person and a place associated with several stars, including Aldebaran. H. P. It is fictional entity from western fictions. Goodess of wealth in Hindu cosmos is a major goddess worshiped by all of us. She doesn't have a son like that nor any reason to keep it alive. This doesn't fit in how Hindu teachings work. Karma Karmphal. Even our deities may have to to do tapasya or fulfill a task, and regain their place back if they do something bad. They may have to born as human and go through life and death process. It actually thus a disservice to Indian religion by making up a demonic entity and calling it son of goddess of wealth. That's why Tummbad didn't click with masses. Even those he cannot pin point the problem sub consciously reject the concept. It is just a horror movie. Atheists or people who are not in touch with our own religious cosmos do not understand it.

i have seen this movie twice in theatre with my wife and friends this is very sad that they have invested 5 years and budget was 5cr and box office collection is only 13cr and the star cast films are earning 100cr i dont understand why Indian audience always want stars and they are blindly in love with khans TUMMBAD is original no copy cat films we have to appreciate those people in terms of money to encourage them and we will see more this kind of films
