This is my first time hearing about this man Dr. Van. He's a teacher and many people would rather the hooping and the emotional make me feel good talk. It's sad. Jesus taught and we should also if we're called to do so. We have to be students of God's Word and follow Him. But we never align ourselves to a man's theology which he is not presenting here. That's his conviction as he said when he started to speak.

The mistake of scholars like Van (and myself a bible college grad cum laude) is our misunderstanding of a simple word like "repent". We were taught through the ages it means to change your actions while it really means to change your mind to God's view of you instead of the church's view of you.

I think one of the reason that has changed his mind about what he believes is because he did a careful study of this four words translated for most as hell in the entire bible... 1. Sheol 2. Hades 3. Gehenna 4. Tartarus and also eon(age) and aionious (age-lasting or ever-lasting) once you study this hebrew and greek words.. you might have a look to where it started for him to rethink what he believes..

France Quijano Yes this is exactly what happened. He said in a different interview that he was studying the Greek and Hebrew versions and they were not saying the same thing as the King James Version. I am not sure why other pastors do not get what he is saying.

when i hear Bishop Carlton's Gospel of inclusion, I am reminded of Ps 1:5 "Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment , nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous". I think there is a BIG misunderstanding of what Bishop is saying. He NEVER said that people should not respond to the Gospel, he has simply said that whether you respond or not, you are yet redeemed. Should we respond? ABSOLUTELY!!! That is how transformation takes place. Also, in Romans 2, Paul lets us know that it is the "goodness of God that leads us to repentance...". Not hell, not judgment, none of that. Religion uses that, and that's why Jesus told the Pharisees in Matthew 23

The difference between Carlton and Van Guyton is that Carlton is promoting his own idea but Van Guyton is basing his position on the facts-- His scripture is alot more specific to the question of are we automotaically saved or must we REPENT AND BELIEVE to be saved..The Bible shows alot more support for the latter than the former-- takes someone with common sense to see the facts and accept it

The only times I would say, "You don't have to go along to get along" would be when saying you don't have to do drugs, have sex, steal, etc to fit in with people or make friends. I wouldn't use it to explain Christ's work on the cross mainly because of Romans 10:9.

Teach Christ so that the soul does not have to endure punishment before being reconciled to God. Teach Christ so that a person know that while they are here on earth, they can manifest Christ by loving their fellow man and treating him/her in the way they would want to be treated which Christ said was the narrow road to life. He said the Law and the prophets is to treat others in the way that you would want to be treated and then He continued on about the narrow road to life (referring to what He said previously as being that narrow road to life: treating others as you would want to be treated). THAT is the faith of Jesus. We are saved by grace (ie. nothing we have to do on our part) through the faith that says, you must love others as self. That's really the meaning of being saved by faith which should really be 'saved the Faith'. The Faith being His commandment to love one another (as self).

Just so you are aware; the so-called church in Chicago where Carlton is the interim pastor is not now, nor has it ever been a "real" or "traditional" church. The founder is a woman named Johnnie Colemon who came out of the so-called "unity" church. They dont believe Christ is God or our Savior. They believe Christ is our 'way shower.' They sing about Christ, but are Universal Unitarianistic in there beliefs, doctrine &dogma, which is Y Carlton is there. Christ Universal Temple is "new thought."

When Van Gayton speaks, I get the distinct impression of a man who is so proud of his letter and degrees, and seminary wisdom, yet has no clue of spiritual matters.(1 Cor 2:5-14) His nonsensical rant about the "objective" and "subjective" sides of the gospel, which is no where found in scripture. is just sheer foolishness. Repentance is merely a turning away and changing from one state to another state. The assumption being that the previous state was not compatible with the way God would want one to live. Jesus only had one commandment. He even stated that HIs commandments (plural) all came down to just one commandment (singular) and that is to love one another. He who believes in Jesus enough to do what He said and, THEREFORE, love one another will be saved/have life. I agree with Bishop Pearson when he says, everyone is already saved due to Jesus' death on the cross because He died for the sins of the world. To be obedient and keep the Lord's commandments is another aspect of being saved. That is to say, if you don't keep His commandments, the penalty is to endure punishment. However, because the person has been saved by Jesus, the punishment is temporary, not eternal. The unrighteous (or those who do not keep the commandment to love thy neighbor as self/treat others in the way they would want to be treated) suffer punishment prior to being reconciled back to God, just as Pearson mention regarding all things being reconciled back to God. The bible even says the last enemy to be destroyed will be death itself. You can't have souls being eternally (forever) tortured in a place called Hell if God's mercy endures forever and you can't have souls being eternally tortured in a place called Hell in a state of death when death will no longer exist. If death is destroyed and will no longer exist, then that means no souls will be in a state of death in a place called Hell because everyone gets reconciled back to God.

Every religion claim to have the truth but religion just isn't truth at all... Christianity is False, Islam is False, Judaism is False and so are all of the other man made religions... @tonetone153 No one is knocking Carlton, this is a conversation of different opinions. The Christian church is not going away either. Whatever God puts in place will always remain. Also, forgiveness is an act that someone ask for in stating to God that they will not repeat the act that has been done or try their best not for it to repeat. God knows the heart of every man. Just asking for forgiveness alone will not get a person into heaven. Faith without "works" is dead.
