Quick question, if as everyone suggests Pierre is not popular. And people just hated Trudeau, why is it that Pierre’s numbers keep going up even though Trudeau has resigned

I honestly have no knowledge of Poilievre. (stopped watching politics years ago) But I am going to vote for him anyway. I don't particularly care for the conservatives. I'm sure they are going to do harm, just as the Liberals have. Its just that it is the other teams turn.

I left the party when it went lefter and nuttier than the dippers but today I'm pissed where the Party has left us as a Nation. LPC will be laid to rest with the PCPofC in 2025.

The way in which PM Justin Trudeau set the terms to his resignation and prorogation, left the Caucus, Liberal MPs, and more importantly, parliament and Canada in a precarious place. It is noteworthy that Minister LeBlanc decided to not run for the leadership of the LPC, instead focussing on his service, duty and dedication to Canada, especially at this time given the changing and dynamic relationship between Canada and the USA. Sometimes politics is a long game. It would be wise for caucus and the LPC to respond to the PM by deferring a leadership race until after prorogation, ask the PM to end prorogation because parliament has supremacy over the PM and the governing party, and should the gov't not survive a confidence vote, until after an election. Then the LPC can hold a leadership race in earnest at its own time and choosing, and the new leader can rebuild the LPC without any baggage from the Trudeau era. This in my estimation would be in the best interest of Canada, parliament and allow the Liberal Party of Canada to hold its head high and honour its esteemed history and role in Canada and its governance. This would not be lost on Canadians and especially those Canadians who are and have been Liberal supporters and wish to be so again. The LPC also needs to demonstrate that as an institution, it is bigger than its leader, Justin Trudeau. If the leadership race goes ahead in haste against the deadline of the end of prorogation, the LPC is shooting itself in both feet with confidence. The aftermath will leave the LPC in disarray, making the rebuilding of the party much more difficult.

Liberals will be a Blue Grit Party built on a Free Enterprise Coalition of voters for the next decade. The NDP can't organize for shit as a fellow ndper. They can't close to save there lives and it infuriates me to no end. Liberals need to be campaigning for the official opposition. Run to survive. And you win by surviving. Sad to see.

David, THE fundamental problem the LPC has with the current slate of possible candidates is that changing Justin Trudeau for another Liberal leader now is like shitting your pants and changing your shirt. Probably the worst of the lot is Mark Carney as he would continue the policy and legislative directives provided by his wife and Gerald Butts, both which work at Eurasia Group, an ongoing recipient of sole source Climate consulting contracts from the Trudeau gov't.

@@rometimed1382 I've listened to plenty of centre left podcasts since the announcement on Monday. Getting into the weeds about what I expect to be a very divisive race for 2 hours is a pass for me. Its a status quo election. Does Canada want to embrace the change Trudeau led or do you want a bit of the old school Canada. I hear Wokeism and Affordability are bit issues. Trudeau did too much too quickly and lost the faith of voters. If he had done his biggest regret PR electoral system he would have lost in 2019 and would have been a one term Prime Minister. Tories have had the popular vote since 2019. Nothing has really changed. I am a Market New Democrat and realize that Poilievre was inevitable. He was the ordained successor since Trudeau won in 2015. Liberals need 90 seats.

What stops an American with Canadian ancestry from signing up? I’ll update this comment if I can lie my way into the Liberal membership. Update: I’m now a registered member. Someone living in Chestemere, AB will be getting my membership papers soon. Let’s hope they prevent me from voting- else I’d be foreign interference. I know in my State, once registering no mail verification is sent by the parties. However, our primaries are very structured, so we have to vote at an in-person polling station (AND, both parties in the State of Florida require a DL/State ID to register… the liberal’s didn’t ask me for an ID- but maybe that’s OK… I have an interest in the leader of our 51st state after all…).
@sherrygaley4675Күн бұрын
I really appreciate this kind of in-depth discussion David. The regular media never gets into this level of detail. As far as the Liberal leadership goes, we need to face the fact that these are not normal times. The party MUST take account of the Trump factor. What most mainstream Canadians now want is a smart fighter who can defend Canadian values and the Canadian economy against attacks from the south. Nobody wants a recession. And nobody wants to be bullied by Trump. If Poilievre succeeds in positioning himself that way he has a good chance. But he may also be perceived as a Trump lite character which could work against him with non-right wing Canadians. So hopefully the Liberal party will pick a leader who campaigns as a savvy, strong and creative leader who really gets the way Canadians are feeling and what we’re most afraid of.
