As a layperson, I find Judge Merchan’s decision unfair and unreasonable. Criminality and the office of the presidency should be fundamentally incompatible things. I would have liked for the judge to immediately lock Trump up for at least four years, ideally longer. I would have thought that the bar ought to be higher for the highest office of the land (indeed, the whole world), not lower. This reminds me of OJ Simpson’s case. These cases give me the impression that the law is fundamentally very unfair
