*All episodes in this series about the Liberation of the Netherlands in 1945 can be found in this Playlist* : kzbin.info/aero/PLP_6hUsQRi8serTiHGuwlDPnbXmv1SPHe English comments follow after the Dutch comments at around 02:12 minutes into the film. A new A.I. has been used to enhance the B&W footage. The results are even better than before and now also in 4K at 60 fps. Thus far I thought enhancing old footage to 4K makes no sense, but this new A.I. has opened new doors!

Amazing. How good was the original footage? How long does it take to process a 5 minute film like this?
@martinderks10592 жыл бұрын
Although Venlo was liberated in 1945 (or partly even December 1944), it was certainly not one of the first cities in Limburg to be liberated. The whole of South Limburg, including the capital Maastricht, had already been liberated 3 months earlier, in September 1944!

Thanks for you feedback. I still have to be careful with this A.I. because if the source has too poor quality it will fantasize how it should be enhanced. In particular facial features can get distorted especially the eyes.

Indeed, these films show how different our world socially was 80 years ago, despite a raging war. To be honest I don't like today's world and probably won't be too sad to leave it in about 20 years time, if I still have that long...

The quality of these enhanced films is undeniable. It really gives the impression that they were filmed yesterday. While not intended to demonstrate technical advances, it might be appropriate to offer the original film for comparison on a split screen. There is a great deal to be said for the original unaltered witness documents, especially as the gap between then and now gets greater, and there are fewer and fewer left to tell the stories.
@Rick888888882 жыл бұрын
I do sometimes make a split screen version, especially to demonstrate new techniques like here kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnSwdqp9jdB5p9E, but I don´t intend to do it every time. You can always watch the original B/W footage via the original source (you´ll have to find it yourself). KZbin prohibits me to also separately upload the B/W original in parallel to the enhanced, colorized version because that is construed as `re-used content´ which has already caused demonetization of my entire channel twice!

Rick, this is fantastic and makes the War that happened so long ago so real to me. My grandfather and grandmother were living in Vorden during the war and I have picture of him in his service uniform. Is there any footage of Vorden anywhere? They both left the Netherlands and moved to Australia with my mother (sadly all have passed on now but they would sometimes tell me stories). Please keep up the fabulous work.

@Rick888888882 жыл бұрын

Great job Rick, well done 👍 Not sure about your sources, but if you could make a clip of the liberation of IJmuiden by the Canadian Army, then that would be great. IJmuiden was pointed by Hitler as a Festung because of the connection to the sea. In 1943 even Erwin Rommel paid IJmuiden a visit to inspect the Atlantic Wall.
