I've seen this movie again and again, scene by scene. That is , i believe Johnnie's most amazing performance. Here he proves what an enormous actor he is! To be honest i'm a little ugry at him that after that he did some staf like tourist... i'm looking forword , a long time now, for something like that to come again...

powerful ending although my favorite scene was before parliament. You can execute a man, but not without him being heard first. something to that likeness, i paraphrase. moreover, i like how he speaks of contradictions "pious debauchee". if you like schopenhauer, he too ponders the many contradictions of man: brave reckless, honest inconsiderate, prudent coward, etc... His character to me embodies the man so egotistic, but unapologetically his own individual; as opposed to the man who compromises himself to propitiate the masses. someone fearless of the oppressive judgment so prevalent in every age. Need proof? Look at the media and especially politics. The panderers lie, equivocate, and dissimulate for the purpose of winning the favor of their constituents. Its funny...they too are actors in a sense, on the stage of life. Just some meditations........

Not just Rochester, but Depp himself in real life.
