I once travelled to the north pole and ran around it in order to go from one timezone to the other as fast as possible. Made it 120 years in the past until my mate told me that's not how time works. Hulk Hogan is like a grown-up version of that kid we all knew at junior school, who went on holiday to Disneyland and saw Back To The Future Parts IV and V, and his dad was in the SAS and let him shoot his government-issue Uzi in the back garden every weekend, but every time you went round to his house for tea the jet-powered bike that he kept telling you about was in the garage being fixed.

@@ChrisAshtear That's the best classic to this day. Even tho it's gotten more rare that kids (especially online) come out stating that their father works for Nintendo (or whatever) and will ban you from that game made and published by an entirely different company. And don't forget all the other games from unrelated companies they had the early versions of and could tell you exactly what would be in them, strangely always being entirely wrong about it when they came out for no reason but "they stripped the best parts away to earn more money".

A friend of mine ran an 800m in high school and ended up competing at state level where he ran an even better time and came third or something. He then told his time of 1:50 to one of these "I'm the best human ever" types who had to out-do him, and made up a time MUCH faster... not just a second or two, but 1:32... 18 seconds faster in 800 metres, which is almost like being on a bicycle versus running. He stuck to his guns, swearing blind that he would bring proof of his 1:32, so my friend thought he'd show him what a d*** he was being when he looked up the world record which is just under 1:41. So this guy would apparently have beaten the world record by 9 seconds... and he was in high school. Here's the part where I realised that some people will lie until they go insane... the friend STUCK TO HIS STORY... Saying that, yes, if indeed the WR was 1:41, then he'd beaten it by 9 seconds and it simply must have been that no one from the school realised it. He made up all the crap about how good his nutrition and training had been (significantly better than the literal world champion, apparently) and that of course he couldn't run fast today because he'd injured his leg a few years ago. This blew my mind... imagine being presented with the proof that your story was fake and instead of saying "Oh sorry I must have my numbers way off", saying "Yep, I EASILY cleared the world record at school."

@DragoEpyon

Heenan has also claimed that he discovered Hogan and knew right away he was the future of the business. Hogan's the most blatant example, but you have to take anything a wrestler says about the past with a grain of salt, especially when their version of the story makes them out to be the good guy in any situation. Look at Bret Hart.

So there's a video on youtube of his son Nick getting arrested for a DUI in Nov. 2023. While they're handcuffing him, Hulk rolls up in a car and starts talking to an officer, asking him questions about where they're taking Nick, where's the jail, and so on. So then Hulk starts making a phone call, and in full earshot of the officer starts saying to someone "...blah blah blah, you know it's down there by where we were handing out the food to the homeless people. Uh huh. Yeah. Down by where we handed out that food. To the homeless people..." I think he was trying to butter the cops up! What are the chances he even handed out any food to homeless people at all, I can't trust a thing this man says. And he walks around now wearing those religious shirts, it's just... gross.

I wonder how much of Hulk Hogan's stories/exaggerations are just him continuing to craft a larger than life persona for himself, and how much is the results of years of working in an extremely physically demanding sport and probably getting a few concussions.

He’s an old man long past his prime resting on the laurels of an unparalleled wrestling career. Of course he doesn’t care anymore. _Still, the fact that he’s not willing to preserve his legacy is quite sad._ Also yeah, technically *Hulk Hogan* is a fictional character interpreted by *Terry Bollea* (like many other wrestlers, having a gimmick separate from your real persona it’s a very normal thing), so when he said that *Hulk Hogan* has a ten inch penis, that doesn’t mean he was referring to himself.

The weird thing is, that's all that wrestling is really about, isn't it? Just silly pretend play with silly stories. The character of Hulk Hogan is doing exactly what I'd expect him to do. It's just that those interviewers seem to be taking him seriously as Hulk Hogan's actor, rather than Hulk Hogan, the silly character (and apparently, so does he). It's just like making an interview with Borat, except that Cohen seems to be able to remember he is a person of his own, not _actual_ Borat :D The weirdest thing to me is that anyone would ever take any of it seriously. There's always plenty of people who believe the silliest things... but this has the smell of an in-joke that got kind of lost about the whole "joke" thing.

His lying could be a long standing result of an unaddressed social anxiety disorder 🤷‍♂️ the industry he was in, the time period of the 80s and the people he was around probably made it impossible for him to seek help or guidance on his mental health issues. He had to be 'The Big Man' all the time so he could maintain his income. This might account for his compulsive lying, which is now something he is completely comfortable with considering he's probably never sort help for it. He's just used to it and it makes him feel less awkward and more important 🤷‍♂️

I struggled with compulsive lying disorder earlier in my life. (I'm better now, no, really) and I can confirm that when a compulsive liar is lying, they aren't thinking about the lie, they're just saying shit in stream of consciousness as fact as a sort of second nature. It's actually a tough disorder and is a real mental health condition. It is conquerable, but it takes an extreme level of dedication. To overcome it, I had to stop myself when I told a lie and embarrass myself (sometimes, in front of strangers) and admit I have a problem and just told a lie. I'd make myself eat shit for the lie then and there ... I stop telling lies real fast after forcing myself to do that.

When I was a kid I'd lie all the time. On my 12th birthday my Dad sat me down and told me stories of liars, lies, trust, and self-worth. Although it did have an impact on me when I was 15 I did a big dumb and lied about it to him. He gave me a " remember when " refresher of that conversation and I crumbled and confessed everything all while crying like a baby. He comforted me and told me all was fine and he thought I was going to make it as a man. He then took me to the people I wronged and I told them it was me and how sorry I was. All was forgiven....when we got home he told me he had to punish me but again told me he'd never been prouder of me. 6 licks with a belt that drew blood......

I think it kinda makes sense for Hulk to say that his character has a ten inch penis, but his actual self doesn't. I know it sounds weird, but it's like Chuck Noris saying, "I can't make the world move with my pushups, but my character, who shares a name and face with me, can because it fits the fiction." Everything else he said was clearly a lie, and it's hard to use the same excuse when you invent stories about people. Like, you can't say, "Elvis didn't visit my shows, he visited my character's shows," or, "I never met with a Make-A-Wish child, but Hulk Hogan did, as a character in fiction to add to his lore." There's a fine line between fiction and just lying. With Chuck Norris, it's made explicitly clear that all of his recorded feats are fictional. For example, saying. "Chuck Norris was so smart, he found out Hannah Montana was Miley Cyrus," is a lot different then, "Chuck Norris is so great, that he helped Miley Cyrus get off of drugs."
