Veteran criminal Dean Russell says he is no longer involved in anything more than community work and that he’s now an innocent man.
But this week the Criminal Assets Bureau are putting his house up for sale with a euro 300k price tag after he handed them the keys following an 11 year battle against a proceeds of crime case.
So who will buy the four bed semi detached which auctioneers say is a bargain.
Nicola speaks with Niall Donald about Russell and what the courts say is his deep and prolonged history with criminality.

I know a woman never been involved in anything dodgy she’s a law abiding lady. Her father was a farmer who would hide money from the taxmen all his life, even back when we changed over to Euros it caused him terrible grief trying to get his cash changed into Euros. There’s many stories about him trying to buy a winning lottery ticket and many other rumours. Truth is he was a tax dodgy for all his life so was his brothers, he done a lot of good and kind things in his life. His daughter is related through blood and I knew of her problems and she to is like her father she hates paying tax and doesn’t know where to start. She’s laughed and cried from this predicament. It sounds funny but truly it’s not she can’t or will not give a cent more to the taxman than she has to.

Sounds like ye are trying to avoid paying tax - ill be reporting you to this pair of clowns above. They may have to do an in depth report on you - and give you a silly nickname like the "butterfly" or the "moth" - and keep talking about you for the next 40 years. Just get yourself a job working for the Irish "gubmint" and nobody will ever investigate you again. Simples.

Cash buyers does mean exactly that, cash buyers. They don't want people with Mortgages as this requires the house to be inspected and up to standard.

Genuine question - if people with mortgages are scrutinised then how did so many people with mortgages get pyrite houses - with no comeback to any - so called regulators / professionals ?

@br6179 pyrite and mica are hidden. Until they aren't. So without carrying out a test, which can take months to get results back, it may not be visible. The engineers and independent valuers inspection are for things that are visible. For example the independent valuer, as well as giving a valuation, it to state that the house in habitable. So to get a standard mortgage the house has to have heating, electricity and water.

@@irisheyes2747 I really appreciate your answer - explains a lot, but also it is hard to believe that so many family homes are gouged out with pyrite / mica , yet I dont know of any public / professional building that needs to be rebuilt because of ths problem.. ??
