Its rare i totally agree with a review. My 750 Dorsoduro is a great bike for the most part. Very well built, a strong (when fueled correctly) engine although not economical. There is also another fault I found on mine that is not so well documented. If the battery becomes weak the ECU can go into a lockout when the starter is pressed. The engine cranks fine and all sounds well. But the engine will not start. I found this a few years ago when I needed the bike one winter morning. Tried several attempts to start it but nothing. No error messages on the dash, fuel pump primed fine just on start. Guessing the engine had no spark. When I jumped the battery from my car the engine started straight away although cranking was no faster . Connecting an oscilloscope to the ECU showed on first press of the start button the battery voltage dropped to 8.3 V causing the ECU to lock out in an undervoltage crash. With a normal voltmeter all looks fine. So if your Aprilia won't start in the winter check battery connections and battery condition. It took me a while to sus this out.

Hi Simon, Problem is the long mass cable running from battery to the front starter motor, giving too much drop of voltage for rest of system while starting. I made an extra mass connection directly on the frame next to the (-) pole of the battery and the problem was solved. Starting is if you had a new battery after the mod. At least it worked for me. Also check the power connections bolts on the starter motor, here some corrotion can buildup on the contacts because it's a bit exposed to the elements.
@SoddingaboutSi Жыл бұрын
@@infokanaal Not on mine. Cranking speed is fine. The problem is on initial crank there is a brief voltage drop that locks out the EHU resulting in no spark or fail injector actuation.

I really like super moto bikes but want something that can keep up on highways better so been trying decide on a dorsoduro 750, a hyper motard 821 or the 900cc version, or the KTM 690 smc. @@josephlilley9249 Hi! Yup, I still feel the same about my DD. It is the bike where I always turn around to look at it when I park it in any place! If you don't turn around to look at it when you leave it, that is not your bike... Mine just got a new pair of shoes this past weekend. As for the models you're looking for, bear in mind that these are not the most indicated to run on highways, they are not built for wind protection. But in town, they're the best. Super easy to ride and make tight maneuvers. I use mine almost everyday for the past months. If I had the chance, I would go for the DD 900. It's more recent, comes with a new dash and has a more robust engine. In your case, I would reccomend to ride each one of the models that you have in mind to choose from, that is the best way for you to decide ;)

An 08 shiver 750 was my first bike. One of my peeves with it is the catalytic converter that ran under the seat made it a very hot bike to ride when the weather is warm. I didn't realize how underpowered they are until I moved on to other bikes. I enjoyed it while I had it. Put around 12k miles on it for the 5 years I had it. I'm on the shorter side too and it sits high. Slow riding and maneuvering is pretty tricky as well. The reason I ultimately sold it was the complete lack of aftermarket availability in the US. I have a 2010 750 Dorso Factory. Quality, leftfield bike that gets heaps of attention. Downsides - too heavy and utterly state of shite fuelling as standard. Seriously - in sport mode the fuelling is so bad and snatchy it is pretty close to dangerous in stop go traffic. Also - tank is hilariously small. Putting akaras and a lithium battery on it saves around 10kg from up high which is very noticable. Putting a 'fatduc' on it as mentioned in the vid is a must - $50 to transform your bike. Now runs super smooth. Fantastic bike - not the hooligan it looks like but sounds mega and goes really well. Reliable, characterful well made machine that is an utter bargain. Just need to convince myself that the 5kg weight saving by going to RSV4 factory wheels is worth the cost now...

I briefly owned a 2012 shiver 750 abs. It definitely had that Italian flair/flaw. It was a damn pretty bike (pearl white with red frame) you felt like you were riding something a little special. It had a nice amount of character with a few vibrations here & there & a great decel pop around town. I really did enjoy owning it, but ultimately I moved it on in favour of an MT09 tracer. The tiny fuel range & lack of/high price of aftermarket accessories ment that it just didn't suit my needs. Specs sheet shopping killed the Shiver and Dorsoduro, and can't blame buyers either. Who buys an old design bike fitted with an engine that makes less power than their competition? The Aprilia's were stuck in a niche market, only bought by people who knew what they were getting into and loved the character of those bikes in spite of their shortcomings in the peak power and weight department. In the cruiser market that sounds like a deal, but the standard/naked market is too aggressive and number driven for bikes like these. Aprilia had to move on and I can't blame them for that. I've owned my 2012 Shiver 750 since new (bought late in 2013). I've put more than 120,000 km on it since then. Fun bike. It's comfortable, handles well, brakes well, fast enough for most riding especially around suburbia. The torque of the v-twin makes it effortless to ride and get away from traffic at the lights. Looks and sounds great. It's a blast in the twisties. I've changed my stock exhaust to a RoadsItalia exhaust and installed a lithium battery which has shaved some weight off. The lithium battery weighs just under 1kg compared to 4kg for the stock battery. The specs of the bike don't do it justice if you're looking for a street bike. Before I bought the Shiver I test rode a Honda Blackbird which has heaps more power and is a silky smooth ride. I was bored within minutes of sitting on it. You have to be doing close to 100km/h in first gear to get some excitement out of the motor and although it's not slow slow before then it just feels lifeless. The Shiver lets you rip through the gears a bit and is way more fun to ride despite having less power.

@@onthebackwheel Definitely Akrapovic sometime after her break-in period, and still thinking about a lithium battery. The bike struggles to crank a bit with her stock battery, and I hope lithium will help her out on that, even just a bit. Lithium worked well for my DRZ after I had Stage 2 cams put in her, and that noticeable weight loss, too.

@@E2Moto they cost a bit of money, but I've never regretted putting one in. Makes the decision a lot easier when your bike is struggling to start or the battery is cactus though

@@onthebackwheel I was wondering about it too, I can't even find a decent write up about simple exhaust + tuning gains out there. If you know of any please share.
