I only recently realized how much I like this drink, despite it being so simple.
@robdielemans91893 жыл бұрын
It is far from simple, yes you add just a couple of compounds together, but the compounds themselves are complex in nature. It reminds me of the favourite dish of Ferran Adrià, which is pan con tomate, but then how do you make a good olive oil or bread, where does the flower come from, etc., so once again simple in nature, simple in compounds, but far from simple. The same goes for gin (it easily could contain 40 aromatics) and tonic.

Alton, what a lovely surprise. Nice to see you on a Thursday. You are looking very stylish in your nod to colonialism. Gin and tonic w/lime is my go to. Beefeater used to be my favorite until I discovered Hendrick's. Incredible with a cucumber spear for stirring. I like trying different fresh herbs according to what I have on hand in combination with fruits like citrus, or even a spear of mango or melon with mint. Thanks for dropping by, you are welcome any time. 🐸💚☘

Hendrick's is THE go-to gin for making a "Cucumber Southside" or a dry martini, but it's not top of the list for G&Ts.

@@robspiess I agree. Definitely a London gin with tonic and 2 limes. As soon as backyard cucumbers are ripe it is time to switch over. Many bars don't carry Hendrick's so I generally order Beefeater and tonic when out. At home I prefer Hendrick's.

Gin & Tonic season is upon us. I can't wait to sip on one of these outside on a patio (if Ontario ever gets to that point again). It's much more likely that I'll be enjoying them at home. After much experimentation, I think I've found the perfect G&T recipe. Put two ounces of gin with the juice of half a lime in a cocktail shaker, fill it with ice, shake for 20 seconds or so, strain into a glass that's also filled with ice, top it off with a bottle of Fever Tree elderflower tonic.

I bonsai'd a small lime tree for a lady friend that only has the occasional drink in summer. Every ten days a full size lime would be ready during the hot season. The "bouquet" that a freshly picked lime added to the drink was just amazing. Most fruit lose this trait within two days of being picked. Even added a small Bay window over the kitchen sink to catch the sun in beautiful White Rock, BC, Canada.
