The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams is a 1974 independent feature film inspired by a 1972 historical fiction novella written by Charles E. Sellier Jr.. The film's popularity led to an NBC television series of the same name. The title character, played by Dan Haggerty, was loosely based on California mountain man James "Grizzly" Adams (1812-1860), whose real name was John Capen Adams, a one-time Boston shoe and boot maker.

You know, I was raised in the country in the backwoods of Kentucky. I was raised to believe that a real man doesn't show emotions but, I don't care anymore, I am drunk and have a lot of pain that I hide . I watched the movie and TV shows with my Mom and Dad. I love them still. My Mom passed away in 2008 in a car accident and then my Dad also passed away in a car accident in 2012 on the same road just a few miles away from where my Mom did. I love these movies and TV shows and yet they bring back memories when we all watched them together. I love watching them but yet it also brings tears again as they bring back happy memories. So yes I am emotional 😭. So attack me if you want, I don't care but it's just mixed emotions. What I wouldn't give to go back to those good times but I can't. But if I watch this and cry, I just can't help but think back of the memories and the pain of family being gone. I know as a man I shouldn't show emotions but I can't help it. I do miss everything about my great child hood and growing up with my loving parents. And I got to meet Dan Haggerty once and hugged him. I was only 10 but he wasn't any different than he was in the shows and movies. He wasn't snobby like other actors. He was truly a great man. And yes I did have a tearful moment when he passed away too.

It is important to feel your emotions, and to express them. If you don't, it bottles up and corrodes your insides. At a cool moment, cry and let it all out. You will feel so much better if you do. It's all healthy and natural. Don't listen to people who tell you to keep it all in, to keep it hidden. That is unhealthy.

Everyone did use to live like this, but the majority agrees we rather build cities, towns, collective farms. This makes living and surviving more achievable and this natural progression is what humans end up desiring with countless examples all over the world....soy point is If everyone reverted back to this way of living, that would destroy th earth faster and quicker than anything

The beginning of the film reminded me of my childhood.I remembered the day my father left me and my mother. We had nothing to eat and no money. I asked my mom where my dad was going, and she said he left us. He never turned around to look at me as he left. I really wanted him to turn around and look at me. I really wanted him to smile at me. It's a terrible thing to be unwanted and abandoned. I felt so worthless.Years later, I found my father. I was never hostile to him.I never hated him. I'm sure he had his own reasons at the time.

This movie is a favorite part of my childhood, as well as the TV series. I used to watch his adventures and live through him, in the same woods he was, next to the animals he loved. I grew up with a huge respect of nature and an enormous love for it, thanks to this show. I dream of a simple, similar life next to nature and hope that perhaps someday I'll be able to live it. Throughout my comment my admiration was towards the TV character, I pointed that out. For Dan Haggerty himself, I expressed my admiration towards him as an actor. To me that's who he was, a wonderful actor. He was my childhood hero as Grizzly Adams. I'm sorry I have to explain that, in my eyes my comment was pretty straight forward. As for his cocaine addiction, I would never despise a person because of something like that, I don't look down on peoples' weaknesses, I sympathize and hope they find the strength to overcome any such difficulties. @@richardbullwood5941

Any other grown men out there who cried their eyes out watching this? I grew up watching Grizzly Adams with my dad on the couch . He had a beard like Grizzly Adams too. This reminds me of the summers we spent camping in Yosemite or King's Canyon. I really love Nacoma, his blood brother. Also when his daughter found him in the mountains after all those years and he wouldn't come home with her. As the song says, "Maybe there's a world where we won't have to run. Maybe there's a time we'll call our own, living free in harmony and majesty, take me home. Take me home. The time finally came, and it makes me sad that he wouldn't let his daughter "Take him home". But he the mountains had become his home, and he shall stay there forever.

Thanks for posting. What a charming and peaceful memory from childhood where I would dream of being like Grizzly Adams living in the mountains at one with nature and the animals. Still think that is the purest life, with no internet, traffic or corruption.

It's now February 2023, and at 50 years of age, I still very much appreciate simple movies like this. I loved Grizzly Adam (Biker Dan Hagerty), I can't imagine what It'd be like to live now OFF GRID in the mountains with my friend and guard BEAR. I pray that one day I to, could live deep in the country in Texas, eating off the land and fishing. What a Blessing from The Lord that would be. I'm sick of the city, big government, politics, working for the man who cares nothing about me. And the division of people. I hope oneday to enjoy life in the country with a wonderful godly woman, have a simple home, garden, dogs, and live stock. 🙏🏼

Very beautiful serie I think it is this series that made me loved both nature and large space. I travel to Canada and live in Africa before returning to France and I never lost the idea that all animals deserved respect. we had certainly been lucky to live in those years.

If Hollywood remade this classic movie. With the world the way it is today they would only mess it up. The Life and times of grizzly Adams is a timeless classic. Leave it the way it is. Perfect.

My wife loved this show. I grew up not having much TV in my life but I had read a book about the real Grizzly Adams. We are now homesteading in the Selkirk Mtns of SE Washington completely away from today's society. Not completely off grid but off the beaten path and walking in the footprints of this character.

Thank you so much for uploading this treasure from my childhood. The mid-'70s seemed a time so full of great nature programs and frontier spirit. We had Grizzly, the Marty Stouffer films that ran into the eighties, Robert Logan films like "Across the Great Divide" and "Little House on the Prairie". Were these more innocent times? An escape from the crash down of the sixties and Watergate years? An extension of hippy back-to-earth ways? Was it just a trend like "Jeremiah Johnson" movies? There was something like Arcadia presented in the wilderness films of these years. I am grateful that it was part of my childhood, and in early elementary school I loved Dan Haggerty and was touched by the stories and themes in "Grizzly Adams".
